Rivers Edge Golf Club
Played On 04/27/2018A sad disappointment
I’m from the UK and was over here in September last year and it was a must play course. The condition then was great. I don’t know what’s happened since September but did read in the clubhouse that a renovation and tree removal programme was under way in March of this year. That didn’t cover the total loss of the green at the spectacular 9th. hole..I don’t know what happened there perhaps it was the unexpected snow in the winter that killed it off? Having travelled 4000 miles from the UK and the expectation of playing the course it was a great disappointment. That said I will return again in September and play those spectacular holes along the salt marshes. Pace of play is also an issue but then it’s a popular course but course marshals need to keep players on time and any groups that hold others should be told to,stand aside and let players that are quicker through. Sadly this is not only the case at Rivers Edge but through out Myrtle Beach courses. There seems to be scant regard for the pace of play etiquette and it is always poorly policed. Apparently it is always the people in front or a group two holes in front. Both the Usga and the R&A want to improve pace of play to encourage more people to play well they better not come to the Beach!
The staff at RE could not be more welcoming or helpful, (the burgers by the way were excellent and only 9.95 including a beer and chips! ) but that can never make up for a five hour round and a course in somewhat poor condition.
Crown Park Golf Course
Played On 09/28/2017A little jewel
I have played here before in the Spring and was impressed with the layout but the condition was not all that it could have been but that was mainly due to the recent rainstorms. This time round the course was in very good condition and we even had some roll on the ball, something often lacking here on the beach. Different tees give everyone a chance to enjoy their game and the greens were receptive and quick so beware of the 'nap'! A very enjoyable days golf at a great rate through GolfNow. Give it a twirl you're sure to enjoy!
Thistle Golf Club - Cameron Course
Played On 09/25/2017It's a peach!
Play here every time I come to the Beach. It's a must play and worth the trip from South Myrtle Beach. Use 22 then 31 North then 17 then 179! Course condition is always great and the staff on the ball. Book a tee time through GolfNow and get a bargain with a hot deal!.
Thistle Golf Club - Cameron Course
Played On 09/22/2017Not a prickly proposition!
I played here in the spring when the greens had suffered from incorrect application of fertilisers. I was impressed by the layout and the honesty of the club in informing us that the greens were not at their best. I'm pleased to say that the greens are now fully recovered and are in excellent nick! The course is obviously well maintained. The bag drop staff are super and the overall attention to detail is terrific! Even the tee reservations ticket is a cut above the rest! The pro shop staff and bar personnel are of a high quality befitting a club of this standing. The multiple tees make the course playable for all levels of golfer and all are welcomed. Not the cheapest but certainly one of the very best. It's always on my 'must play' Myrtle Beach list! It should be on yours too!
Eagle Nest Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2017A renewed friendship!
I first played Eagle Nest in 1998! I think it fair to say that the facilities were a little rudimentary then! Tiny clubhouse and small bar area. There have been major changes to the facilities but the course wayout remains the same. This past year it has undergone a major overhaul and it has been done sympathetically. From the tips it is a BIG challenge, especially the final 3-4 holes! If your, visiting from the UK then it is a big enough. Halle get from the whites! As you would expect after a refurbished the greens and bunkers are in very good shape. When I played in a store Nile the pace of play was excellent and groups were happy to waive me through! As with the majority of MB courses you get what you hit! No run on the fairways and no running it into the green! You need to fully up to the pin as being short leaves you plugged with the chance of a lost buried ball! Not something we are used to in the U.K.! If you like a beer on the way round, and who doesn't ? Get a bucket from the snack bar and take some beers out with you! At just $3 a pop it's a no brainier, especially if there is no beer cart in operation! I'd say it's a good honest course and well maintained and worth the green fee via GolfNow!
Thistle Golf Club - Cameron Course
Played On 04/29/2017Shame about the greens!
A truly great course! The best tees and fairways I've ever played in Myrtle Beach and I've been coming here since 1998!
What a shame that the greens were so poor! This is not Thistle fault and to say it's due to aeriation is not really the case. As far as I know the greens were treated to kill the Poe Anna grass but the wrong ratio was used on the manufactures recommendation. This has lead to their present state, which is poor. I'm sure after Mother Nature has come to the rescue things will be back to normal and the greens will be like carpets!
In all a great course from tee to green.
Crown Park Golf Course
Played On 09/15/2016Crown Park, a regal course!
Despite all the recent rain the course was in fair condition with a few area that were wet enough to have preferred lies. It was u defeat bale that the 90* cart rule was in force. Although the fairways were pretty wet the greens were in excellent condition,if a little slow. There were no issues the pace of play as the starter put me off the back nine first as there was 16 guys in front of me on the first nine! So thanks to him I had a trouble free round.
I would rate this course one of the better ones in the area, and I have played 53 of the courses available! I would put it in my top 10 to play whilst here in MB. Oh and use Golfnow to get a tee time bargain rate!
KJ in the UK.
Meadowlands Golf Course
Played On 09/20/2015Mellow Lands!
A little ways up from the central Strand but well worth the gas!
The course is a nice layout and was in Google condition when I played it. Arrived early in the p.m. And was allowed straight off as single! No hold ups until late in the back nine. Even so was round in less than 4 hours!!!
Greens were quick and true but watch out for the subtle burrows!
In all a great golfing experience and would recommend and repeat !
Indigo Creek Golf Club
Played On 09/16/2015Up the Creek!l
Had a great time here! Playing at 1345 I turned up in good time and was allowed to go off early! As a single I was allowed to play on my own which was great! Mind the course was very quiet! Played front. 9 in 1 hour 20! (8 handicap so kept it in the fairway most of the time! Caught a 3 ball in front on 12 so slowed play a bit but the old guys did their best to keep up!
The greens were in very good condition with plenty of growth and running true. Some subtle breaks so take your time to,read 'em! Make sure you take that extra club into the green as if it's short it's staying short. In general take an extra club at the par 3's all in all a good days golf helped by a well manicured course and friendly staff. Play it ,you won't be disappointed !
Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club - Sand Nine
Played On 05/09/2015Super Sandpiper
Not the first time I have played this track but I'm always impressed. Out there along Highway 179 it's worth the trip from Myrtle Beach. Clubhouse, staff and Pro shop are all top quality. We played the course after some serious rain and although the bunkers were water logged it did not spoil the impression of the course. Yes it was wet and soggy in a few places but generally it was in great shape given the recent weather and forth coming tropical storm Anna! The greens and fairways were some of the best we played. The fairways are fairly narrow which made art path only regs not too much of a problem. Speed of play was brilliant but nobody else was out there chancing their luck with the weather. We were rewarded with a great round of golf. We played the Sand and Piper combo but with another 9 available you have the chance to play 3 combos. You could do worse and play all three. Book through GolfNow for the best green fees.
Overall a very worthy 9/10.
