Greens LOOKED iffy, but putted well and pretty fast
Course had a good layout
This time of year most courses in central Florida have a tough time keeping decent grass on the fairways. This was no exception.

We had a foursome today. We all agreed that 14 holes were pretty average for central Florida at this time of the year. The four quarry holes are what made for a much better experience. Those were great!

I’ve played Black Bear five or six times and have enjoyed every round. I’ll definitely be back. I especially like the hills throughout the course. Staff is great.

Very scenic course, the nearby mountains provide great background for many tee shots. Greens were slow. Most were small and elevated. Even short pitch shots created pitch marks. Loft a wedge into the green and you create a hefty ball mark. There are three nines. The Red course was clearly marked because it was directly outside the pro shop door. The other two courses were not clearly marked. We started on the Orange course which was about a hundred yards from the pro shop and on the far side of the maintenance building , had to ask for directions. Overall it was okay. Not in a hurry to go back.

The condition of this course was among the worst that I have seen in playing over fifty years. The greens were OK. The rest was terrible. I think the amount of grass on the smallest green was more than all the fairways combined. We paid over $50.00 each with fees and extra taxes at the course for an experience that wasn't worth $20.00. The staff was friendly and polite. Beyond that everything was downhill. I would not recommend this course.

I've played this course five or six times before. Conditions were usually good. This time I was pleasantly surprised that, this late in the season, the course was very good. Even after the greens were recently aerated, they rolled very well. My group left happy that we played there.

The course was undergoing Fall aeration and sanding on the front nine, therefore we played the back nine twice. Overall the layout was challenging. Course conditions were rough. Sand traps had very little sand and broken rakes. A number of the tee boxes were as bad as I have ever seen - almost no grass, no level spots, uneven ground. One par four was being played as a par three. If the course conditions were better I would recommend this course because of the layout, but not yet.

I've played Glendarin about ten times and enjoy it immensely every time. Getting a deal from Golfnow.com made the day even better. Well worth the drive.
