I enjoyed the course. It’s not ANGC but they do the best that they can with their budget/staff. Every person I encountered was polite and professional. The course had its problems on their greens but that happens when you’re handcuffed by budgets and staffing issues.
The course was flat and getable. Most of the greens were visible from the tee complex and the bunkers were playable and in good shape. The price for the round was reasonable for my tee time. The golf shop and grill were small and didn’t have a lot of options but had the essentials.
I’d definitely recommend the course for someone looking to get out of the house and play a round of golf while on vacation. If you want to play a PGA quality course or have flawless conditions, it may be better to go to PCB, but if you want a fun round with your friends or family, give this course a shot!

If you haven’t played this Top 50 in the US, do it! The greens more than make up for the drive! Even short staffed, the GCS and their crew rock out. I’ve played here 4 times and have yet to find anything wrong with the course itself. My only complaints are that you have to drive past #10 at the turn to go to the grill, which can cause a back up, and the sand in the bunkers.
This golf course has earned their Top 50 ranking. Thank you so much for another great round!

First time playing Atlanta National. I’m not sure what the previous reviews were looking for but this course was worth the drive.
ClubCorp had a “200 yards from the clubhouse” rule when I worked there and it looks like it was still in effect. The area surrounding the clubhouse was in great shape! The practice area was a very good size with multiple putting and chipping greens and the range tees were in good shape considering the rain.
The golf course itself is like any other “management” course with some small spots with thinning turf. The tee boxes were in great shape, the fairways, for the most part, were in very good shape, and the greens were nice with minimal ball marks and very little dead spots from old ball marks. Putts rolled smooth and held their lines very well.
There are several blind tee shots but nothing a peek at your GPS won’t fix, (I highly recommend The Grint app!!). There weren’t a lot of driver holes for me, (16 handicap), and a decent 3/5 wood will leave you inside 150 yards on most par 4s.
All in all worth the drive and the money, in my opinion! I would recommend this course.

Fun layout! Greens were small but in great shape! Bunkers didn’t have a lot of sand in them, and were wet from rain the night prior, but the superintendent had workers in them pumping water out.
I enjoyed the layout of the course, and I didn’t see many weeds anywhere.
I would definitely recommend this course to someone looking for a fun layout and a quick round.

Worked for Canongate when they managed this course and I can tell you that it seems like they’ve given up.
The greens, for the most part, were in good shape. There were some rough spots, and a few greens that had mushrooms sprouting on them, (fungicide guys!), but they rolled good and were fairly quick.
And that’s where it ended. Tea boxes and fairways were garbage, and there was more grass in the bunkers and there was on the greens. Absolute complete waste of money, and I will never go back.
Horace was amazing, just like he has been for the last 19 years. The gentleman in the golf shop was super cool, extremely nice and professional. The starter was great.
GPS in the carts was awesome, except it would shut you down anytime you got near the green even though you were on the cart path. I cannot believe how far this course has fallen in the last six years.

This course is amazing.......if you’re on your game. If you’re struggling with your driver, like I am, or irons/short game, this course will eat your lunch,
The course is in great shape with the exception of a few greens that have some hydraulic leak damage or some fungal damage, number 3 being the worst. But I would absolutely recommend and play this course again!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. We're so glad that you enjoyed your round at Cherokee Run Golf Club. Please visit us again soon!
Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course
Played On 12/05/2020Always A Blast
If I could afford to play this course more often, it would be in my normal rotation. While pricey, the tee time price does include entrance to Lanier Park, food and non alcoholic drinks, and range balls.
The golf course is extremely fun, with challenging shots that make you think off of the tee.
It’s definitely worth it if you haven’t been there before. Just try to play earlier so you’re not having to fix ball marks just so you can putt.
Thank you for the review!
Ball marks have definitely been more of an issue this year. We are unsure why people are not repairing them during the round and are doing our best to fix them ourselves.

First time playing here, and will admit that it was a fun layout.
The golf course challenges you through the first 6 holes with accuracy off of the tee, then changes it up when the undulations of the greens starts to become noticeable on approach shots.
The greens were in great shape! A little slower than you would expect when looking at how tight the leafblade is, but the undulating greens and bunker locations do plenty to protect the pin placements.
As a self professed “golf course snob”, I had a great time on this course and would recommend it to anyone looking for a challenging short course.
My only complaint was the pace of play on the back 9. Going to the grill at the turn for a sandwich or drinks takes you past the tee on number 10, so it slows everyone down and creates a bottleneck.
There is also not a lot of definition between the fairways and the rough, which is a small complaint that’s easily fixed.
Props to the GCS and their staff. They are doing a very good job and of given a bigger budget, could make this golf course very nice!
Providence Club
Played On 09/19/2020Fun Short Course
I returned to this course after not playing here in 12 years and was reminded of how fun this course is.
I gave the off course amenities an average rating but didn’t go into the grill for food/drinks or shop in the golf shop.
My main concern with this round was that we were told that we were the second tee time at check in, but after a slight delay while waiting for enough light to see our shots, we pulled up to the first tee to see a foursome in the fairway and five on the tee box, with one player using their own personal cart. The starter didn’t seem interested in this situation, and couldn’t even be bothered to get one of our playing partners a fresh scorecard while we were waiting for 9 people on the tee during our tee time.
The greens were slow, but rolled true. The gentleman on the Salsco roller could have taken the time to blow off the greens as the roller was leaving grass clippings on each green. And while I do understand that smallish greens can cause issues, some of the pin locations today were in some pretty serious positions. The bunkers could use some more sand and the golf course could use some post-emergent for weed control.
While I wasn’t entirely thrilled with the visit, the golf course is fun and should be a course people visit for a quick round.

Really didn’t expect much when I saw the empty parking lot and clubhouse, but was in for a surprise.
While the practice facility wasn’t very big, it has everything needed to warm up for your round.
The golf course was CPO following 2” of rain late in the week, and there was standing water on a few fairways, but the golf course was in good shape and the bunkers were almost perfect and every bunker had been raked.
The tees and greens were pretty small, but the greens were in amazing shape. There was a good amount of undulation, and every putt was nerve racking because of the speed.
I drove over an hour to play here, and would do it again. It was a fun layout and the greens made it worth every minute.
Avoid the chicken salad sandwich. It was pretty bad.

Played Mill to School. The golf course was in the best shape it had been in in years! The pace of play was perfect, and the fairways and greens were perfect. Only saw the beverage cart once on the front and the tees on the par 3s were heavily used, but the course played as great as it looked. Please let Lenny, Matt, and Shawn know that they’re crew is doing an amazing job! We will definitely be back soon!
Thank you for your review, tmmiller26. We will pass along your positive experience to our team here at Chicopee Woods Golf Course - School Nine. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Sevierville Golf Club - River Course
Played On 09/04/2019Fun Track & Nice Greens
Ended up coming to the area after being evacuated from Myrtle Beach due to Dorian. I work for the TPC Network so usually avoid courses owned by local cities or counties, but decided to play while staying at the adjacent resort, and was not disappointed.
I was paired with a twosome that was also in the area due to the hurricane. We were the first group off on the River Course and flew through our round. Luckily, the others had played the course before and were able to give me tips and warnings.
The tees and fairways were in great shape, and the greens, while postage stamps, were fast and held their lines very well. The bunkers were hard pan and looked like they hadn’t been raked or spun in a few days or so, but I was only in one bunker so that didn’t really effect me.
This course was in very good shape and is a fun experience for someone out for a good time. The staff were extremely friendly and the beverage carts made their rounds in reasonable amounts of times. I would definitely play this course again, and have already talked to my friends about a golf trip back up to this course.
A job well done to the GCS and their staff!!

Had a great time on this course. It was my first visit to this course and the elevation changes added to the challenge. Greens were slow, but putts held their lines.
The staff, from the golf shop to the cart staff, were extremely friendly and helpful.
They do have course guides available if it’s your first visit.

I’m honestly a “golf course snob”, but despite the overall conditions, I really like this course.
A small budget can handcuff the GCS and their staff, but the layout of this course makes up for the conditions. It has a great mixture of long and short holes. Despite the small greens, the undulations and slopes make almost any pin position a challenge. The greens are healing nicely from a recent aerification and even though they are a little bumpy, they are quick.
The overall condition of the tee complexes, fairways, and bunkers are the reason I gave the conditions a three star rating, but I believe that a good fertilization program will bring everything back. This is the first course I’ve played that I wanted my ball to roll into the rough.
This course is still a lot of fun, and I do recommend it to any golfer looking to play a golf course that’s fun and challenging.
Hello. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
The Preserve at Verdae
Played On 10/27/2018One of my Favorites
Living northeast of Atlanta, this course is only a 1 hour, 40 minute drive from my house. I had only played here twice before Saturday, but wanted to bring a few buddies up to play.
The layout is challenging but loads of fun. Tight fairways and trees add to the challenge of a course that has blind tee shots and hazards protecting greens and crossing fairways. The greens were rolling very well, and were both fast and receptive.
The only complaints were that the grill was closed and the pace was a little slower than we liked, (we still played in 4 hours, 45 minutes). Cart path only added to the time because of the rains on Friday. Major kudos to the GCS and their staff for the playing conditions on Saturday.
Would definitely play this course again. Three times is not nearly enough!

First time playing at this course in almost 2 years. As a former Canongate employee, I tried to play Smokerise at least once a month. The layout makes you think and the greens were always worth the hour drive.
Saturday was a joke. We waited almost 5 minutes for a cart to be brought out. Our tee time was 10:00 a.m. and we didn’t tee off until almost 10:20. We were waiting minutes on each shot and even longer on the par 3s. We didn’t see an on course ranger at all. There’s absolutely no reason why they should’ve been that far behind that early in the morning and they were unwilling to make groups speed up.
On top of a 5.5 hour round, tee box markers hadn’t been moved, were only 3-4 paces part, and most weren’t even aimed towards the fairway or green. There was standing water in most of the bunkers, (despite not having rained in 2-3 days), and maybe a handful had been raked.
The clubhouse still hasn’t been repaired from a leak a couple of years ago and there’s almost nothing in the golf shop as far as golf balls or equipment.
This course used to be a lot of fun to play, and you could play a round and not see another group. Now, it’s not worth the drive or the money.
Chicopee Woods Golf Course - Village Nine
Played On 09/01/2018Most Improved Course
I have played Chicopee Woods numerous times over the last 4 years and was always frustrated by the time we left over the pace of play and general course conditions. Once the new GM took over, everything changed. A round that used to take 6 hours is now greatly improved and the golf course has been in very good shape.
We were the first off today, Mill to School, and played 18 holes in less than 4 hours. The greens were a little slower than normal at this course, but putts held their lines and the roll was true. Bunkers were in very good shape, and the bare spots that used to be the norm on some fairways are long gone. If there were any complaints, it was that the tee markers weren’t moved from Friday, but only the Par 3s were really an issue.
Very happy with the product that Chicopee is offering now. The GM and GCS have done a great job.
Sugar Hill Golf Club
Played On 08/04/2018Cool layout, okay conditions, golf shop needs lessons in customer service
Booked an 8 a.m. tee time through GolfNow, with the first tee time being 7:50 a.m. Golf shop didn’t open until 7:30. We walked in at 7:26 to try to by some range balls and the representative snapped at us, saying “We don’t open until 7:30 guys”.
Once we paid and went to the first tee, the starter, who was really nice, allowed the next tee time to roll right up to the tees while we were on the box.
The course was wet, having had 6” of rain in the last three days, but was in good shape overall. A lot of the bunkers still had an inch or more of water in them. You could see where the employee that mowed greens stopped his reels on the greens to remove the flag, and there was goose grass all over the greens. The tee markers and cups hadn’t been changed, but you could tell that they attempted to mow the rough in the dryer areas.
Kudos to the superintendent and his staff for making the course playable, but the GM needs to take the time to work with his golf shop staff on customer service.
Reunion Country Club
Played On 07/21/2018Great Course Layout
We’ve played this course multiple times and have never had a bad experience. While the greens are sometimes too soft, it is bentgrass in Georgia, and would rather have deep ball marks than sand.
With that being said, today round was awesome. An amazing storm rolled through for about an hour at 6:30 a.m. Our tee time was pushed back to give agronomy department a chance to set up the course. After about an hour and a half wait, we were the first group off and played in about 3 hours and 45 minutes.
CPO until 10 a.m., but the course drained very well, and by hole 7, we were able to play 90*. Greens rolled very smooth, but were a little slower than they normally are at this course, (I would assume that they were unable to mow this morning because of the lightening and rain). There were very few collection areas that were puddled, and even though the bunkers were skipped, (again, because of the weather), they weren’t washed out, and were playable.
Thank you to the GCS and his staff. Every time we’ve played Reunion, the course has been in immaculate shape. You and your staff put out a top notch product in both sight and playability.
Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course
Played On 07/07/2018Loads of Fun
This is the second time we have played at Legacy, and it was just as much fun!
The staff at check in were extremely friendly, the free drinks and hot dogs were great, but the real deal is the golf course! Playing at 1 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon, you expect that there will be a little wait, but this was not the case. We played 18 holes in just under 4 hours, and I don’t think we saw another group until 17.
The course is challenging, but not because of the length. Undulating geeens keep you honest, and the threat of one huge water hazard keeps you on your toes.
Greens were a little bare in a few spots, and the goose grass on the collars detracted from the course conditions rating, but it was a great place to play and would definitely return.
I just won’t be buying beer there again. A six pack of Bud Light cost $25. I do understand that they have to make some money, since most refreshments are free, but that price was more than a little ridiculous.
Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate the detailed review!
Hope to see you at the course again soon.
