Panther Lake at Orange County National
Played On 06/14/2021Absolutely Beautiful
Orange County National is a great course. The facilities are impeccable. Walking around inside the club house, I half expected a tour pro to come walking around the corner. The pro shop was gorgeous and the gentlemen behind the counter were incredibly friendly and helpful. The course was equally as impressive. The layout was challenging, but fair. Tee boxes were well kept, fairways had no bare spots, greens rolled well, even though some of them were recently punched. Bunker layouts were very cool, and the water hazards weren't oppressive, but they didn't let you forget they were there. Excellent design, fun course, beautiful facilities. 10/10 would play again.

The layout of this course is great. The bunker and water placement is challenging but not overly so. That being said, I couldn't tell you the last time someone watered it. Tee boxes were equal parts brown and bare, fairways were similar to pavement. The greens rolled true, but anything landing on them took a mighty bounce and left virtually no ball mark. I've been playing this course for years, and it seems to get a little more crispy each time. The course has the potential to be really special, if they could figure out the water and drainage situation.

I love this course. The layout is great, but the course could definitely use some TLC. The fairways are quite firm and the boundaries of all the greens look like they're marked GUR. They just aerated a couple weeks ago and they're still kind of hard to judge speeds, but that's understandable. My one and only real gripe is the bunkers. Most of them are rock hard, some actually have physical rocks in them to the point of being unplayable. All in all, it's a great course for the money, and I feel like improvements are being made. I'll definitely be playing there again.

I've written reviews for this course in the past, and this one won't be much different. I'm a big fan of the layout. The difficulty is all in how you choose to play it. If you're a high handicapper not trying to hit the long ball and cut the corners, it's not overly punitive. If you're playing from the tips going for eagle on every hole, you can count on losing some balls. The greens are much improved. The aeration scars are gone, and they are in the process of, or just completed, making some of them bigger. In the past, I've played this course after a heavy rain and the drainage was not up to par, but I can't speak on that for the last several months. Lots of work has been going in to improving the course conditions, and I can say that it's definitely showing. My one request is that they get the rocks out of some of the bunkers, particularly around the ninth green. If you land in one and don't get a lucky lie, you can't play the bunker without potentially damaging a club.
The staff are always friendly to me, and the clubhouse is in good shape. For the price, you really can't beat Eastwood.

This was my first time playing this course. I got a great deal through golf now, and its close to home. The staff was very friendly, start to finish. The course was in pretty good shape, although it could've used some water in some spots. The layout is great; the fairways are relatively generous, but a miss is definitely punished. The greens are predominately flat and receptive, but the bunkers can be tricky if you find yourself in one.

Not a bad course for the money. The scenery is nice, the holes have challenging layouts with deep bunkers and tricky rough and greens. However, the ground doesn't seem to be well maintained, as most of the course was hardpan. Also, the course seems to stack groups up very close together, causing ridiculously slow play (spent the entire round waiting for 2 groups in front of us, and had 3 groups stacked up right behind us). All in all a decent course, plus the carts are pretty fancy.
Excellent For A "Treat" Round
I've played Grand Haven Golf Club twice now, and both times, I was overly impressed. The first time I played was after a huge storm, and part of the course was under water, but it was still amazing. This time, there was no such problem. The course is gorgeous, the facilities are wonderful, and the staff is wonderfully friendly and helpful. It's full of undulations and elevation changes, quick turns, sneaky hazards, and the occasional tree with the desire to swat your ball. My only knock is that it's a bit pricey (usually around $60 for 18) and if it weren't for the excellent golfnow deal I wouldn't have made the near hour trip. However, I will definitely go back.
Pines Golf Course, The
Played On 05/29/2015Decent course, horrible experience
I booked a tee time here, because I found a cheap "hot deal" through golf now, and the weather had a chance to be bad that day, so I didn't want to spend a lot on a round. I didn't expect a 5 star resort course, but after my experience there I won't go back, even if it's cheap.
Everything started out fine, no problems with prepay or check in, and the course is a fun little course to play quick, and the scenery is nice. However, before long, I learned that the word "etiquette" has no meaning there. I'm no uptight jerk, but there's a line. Between people driving out into the middle of your fairway while you're swinging and just sitting there(multiple times, different people), people hollering loudly from 10 feet away while you're putting, guys urinating from the teeing areas, and the foursome who averaged about 30 minutes per hole, caused a 4 group log jam and refused to let anyone play through (to the point where 2 groups skipped holes to get ahead of them), people lingering around the greens for 5+ minutes after finishing up, there is a serious problem here. There are no marshalls, or anyone to keep play moving, just the guy in the clubhouse at the cash register. Add in the fact that i had to push my cart up the 12th hole because the transmission gave out(plus saw another cart getting pushed after breaking down), and it's safe to say I had a very poor experience.
The course itself was alright, save for the fact that several of the teeing grounds were uneven and totally mangled, finding your next tee was sometimes a confusing endeavor, and several greens/tees felt like they were right on top of each other. The lone person I encountered that worked there was pretty friendly and helpful.
I won't be going back to the pines anytime in the near future, if ever again. It's worth it to spend a few extra dollars to go somewhere else and have a better experience.
This person's experience sounds eerily similar to mine in almost every respect. You get what you pay for I guess...
Gleneagle Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2015Beautiful Scenery, Challenging Track
I've played this course numerous times, and I have fun every time I do. It's a good length, and tests every aspect of your game. Accuracy trumps distance here, as you will be punished for nearly every off line shot you hit, and getting to the green is only half the challenge. The greens are seldom flat, so missing by a few feet can turn a sure birdie into a tester for par.
The course is well maintained, and the facilities are very nice. The practice areas are great, and even the food tastes good.
Wallinwood Springs Golf Club
Played On 05/26/2015Beautiful course, Fun to play
This course has everything I want in a golf experience. There is every type of hole: short holes you can drive, long holes you can bomb, tricky mid length holes to think about, elevation changes, sneaky hazards, and so on.
Everything is in great shape, and the staff is always friendly. My only gripe is that this course has a tendency to jam up less skilled golfers quickly, and sometimes playing through isn't even an option. Also, occasionally a bunch of goose droppings on the greens, but that is usually manageable.
Indian Trails Golf Course
Played On 05/20/2015Decen course, surprisingly pricey
The course was in good shape, and I enjoy the layout for a quick tune up round. The guy in the clubhouse was friendly, and i had an overall good experience. A little bit steep in the pricing for such a short course (9 hole price was close to the same as what i pay for 18 holes on longer courses). I'll probably play here again, especially if they drop the price a bit.

Played On 04/17/2015Fun Course,Beautiful Scenery
I've only played this course twice, but I loved it both times. The holes are relatively straightforward for the most part, but they have enough undulations and hazards to keep it fun and challenging. The track itself is well maintained, although one hole has earned a reputation for catching a lot of goose droppings (which I didn't see this time). Set along the grand river, the areas around the course are generally beautiful, particularly looking out over the water on your somewhat lengthy trek from the 11th green to the 12th tee in late afternoon.
Thank you for your 5-star review! We here at Orange County National appreciate our guests taking the time to tell us about their experience! We look forward to seeing you out again very soon!
