Pendleton Golf Club
Played On 8/5/2013Challenging course, Great value
The course is laid out in on a beautiful piece of rural Virginia countryside. Greens fees are very reasonable, and I usually find the course uncrowded and suitable for < 4 hr rounds (weekday afternoons). At 6635 from the blue tees (72.9/135), I find myself struggling to reach some of the uphill par 4s, and in this year's wet conditions, you won't get much roll. Speaking of the wet weather, some of the greens have succumbed to various forms of damage, but that's about the only negative right now.
Mattaponi Springs Golf Club
Played On 7/29/2013Rural Tranquility
I played on a Monday afternoon; hoping for no crowds, and that's what I got. Played solo, no one in front of or behind me for the entire 18. The course is beautiful and was in great shape. My only small complaint was that the greens were quite slow, probably due to a very rainy summer. Speaking of greens, consider your point of aim very carefully. Almost every green has three distinct elevations, and if you're in the the wrong place, you will likely three-putt. The four par-3s are quite difficult, but the par-5s are definite birdie opportunities.
