San Ignacio Golf Club
Played On 06/24/2019Poor Customer Service
Course was in poor condition due to punching of front nine at same time we were playing. No notices or alerts were given which was a big surprise to us. Several fairways were flooded with water. When we called pro shop they said sorry but they were trying to "wake up" grass. On one hole, a worker stood in the middle of green watering and was oblivious to our approach shots. When we got to the green we told him he could have been hit. His response was that we probably were not good enough to hit him. We will not be back, but we will be sure to give our money to other green valley courses that appreciate our business.
Kino Springs Golf Course
Played On 11/15/2018Fun Round
Our first time playing this course. Fairways and most greens in good shape. A few greens had some rough areas but management accommodated this with a local 2-putt rule. A number of holes on front 9 were in the mountain areas and had severe uphill and downhill combinations. Pace of play was great at 3 and 1/2 hours. A fair amount of blind shots so make sure to review the scorecard which provides some tips.

Enjoyable day of golf. Course was in good shape (especially with recent hot weather and windy days). A little brown in some fairway areas but is to be expected this time of year. Greens were in good shape and rolled true. Maint staff was out hand-watering greens. All staff we encountered were very friendly. Pace of play was very good. Would definitely play again.

Greens are in really bad shape. Normally they are dormant this time of year with the type of Bermuda they have ... BUT... another grass has invaded greens that make it impossible to putt on a straight line. It is no fun to 3 and 4 putt after hitting good shots to get there.
Crooked Tree Golf Course
Played On 11/21/2017Slow Round - No Ranger
This course is really just average for Tucson, but is good during snowbird season as other courses charge much more. Round took nearly 5 hours as a group of 6 (yes I said six) were at least 3 holes behind the group ahead of them and there was no one (like a ranger) to tell about it. These 6 obviously knew the course management so I guess they were immune from playing on pace like the rest of us were expected to do!

Played On 08/25/2017Good Pick For The Money
We have played this course before and usually enjoy it.
Greens in good shape and rolled fairly true with average speed. Fairways and rough were generally in very good shape. Pace of play was excellent (3 1/2 hours). All staff we met were very friendly and accommodating. Free balls at driving range for warm up. Sand traps a little rough but definitely playable.

Played On 08/23/2017Great Course and Friendly Staff
Only the 2nd time playing this course and we love it! Conditioning was excellent. Fairways, tee boxes and rough in excellent shape even though it has been a difficult summer of weather. Greens were good but still showed a little evidence of last aeration. Rolled fairly true though. Sand traps a bit rocky but maintenance staff was grooming them the day we played. Views/scenery fantastic (Superstition Mountains). Staff was attentive and VERY friendly. Greeted immediately on arrival and cart girl available almost every few holes. Saw Ranger several times as well. Add this course to your must-play list.

Course has been sold and will be turned over to homeowners in January. We live here and can tell you the course is in terrible shape. Greens are SLOW with many bare and brown areas. Fairways lack good turf and are brown or muddy. Of all the Tucson courses we play right now - this course is one of the worst in terms of conditioning. Not sure if all the damage is caused by insects, fungus or lack of water ... but in the last six years we have played it has NEVER been this bad. Good luck new owners!!

Played On 08/15/2017Challenging Course
Always play this one several times each summer. Numerous forced carries and greens are always a challenge with various levels and undulations. Fairways , rough, greens and sand traps were all in good shape. Some tee boxes were a little chewed up, but it is late summer.

Pace of play is ALWAYS slow here. We went off fairly early in the day and still had to wait on every shot. We saw a ranger one time and told him we are used to playing in 4 hours or less and he said "well that is not going to happen here"! Many groups today seemed more interested in getting more drinks from the cart girl than playing ready golf. Like the layout and challenge but probably won't be back since we don't feel like burning in 105 degrees for a 5 hour round.

Course was in terrible shape. Every fairway was brown and burnt out. We played this course a little over 3 weeks ago and it was great. WHAT HAPPENED? We asked several employees and they said a main water pump burned out and no watering of fairways for nearly a week. They also said corporate cut the water budget! We usually enjoy this course and play it many times during summer. Will not play again until the fairways are back in decent shape. With current conditions not even worth $24.

Played On 10/18/2016No Grass On Greens
Stay away from this course. They attempted to re-grass this summer (switching from bermuda greens to bentgrass greens), and it did not work!! These greens were in the worst shape of ANY greens I have played in the last 15 years!
Fairways and tee boxes were fine but the greens were a total mess. Many areas of green have no grass or have been filled with sand and look like you are putting through miniature sand traps. The grass that is there is so fragile it is getting torn up by players simply walking around the cup. Course should not even be open for play.
Thank you for taking time to write a review. I would like to have an opportunity to speak with you about your experience on the course. You can reach me at elcongolf36@gmail.com

Played On 10/05/2016Fantastic
Rated one of the best courses to play in AZ. Our experience here was fantastic. The course was in excellent shape and the staff was friendly and attentive. Each hole gives you a different challenge and the views out in this area are great. Greens were fast (about a 12 on the stimp according to staff). Four of the holes have water which could come into play. Our favorite was "Big Water" - elevated tee shot to a 194 yard par 3 that will make you think of other famous water-surrounded greens. The big thing to watch is on approach shots. Greens have multi levels and if you don't get in the right spot, 3 putts are almost assured. We were lucky to be playing with members who could direct us on approach shots.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 06/02/2016Aeration Alert - poor check-in process.
Greens and Fairways have been cut way low and aerated. You would be much better off to wait several weeks for conditions to improve. 3 and 4 putts were very common in our foursome. Check-in was confusing. They closed the normal pro shop for the summer and you are required to check-in at the "members" pro shop at the Lodge. Staff was NOT welcoming at this member pro shop (guess because we are not "members"). We don't need to pay as much as we did for this kind of treatment.

My wife and I have played this course MANY times. We have usually enjoyed it but not since the greens have been replaced (last summer). The greens are mini verde bermuda and do NOT get oversseded in the winter. In other words, they are completely DORMANT in the winter and Spring and do not grow. The course paints them green occasionally to make it look better. The greens also have another old grass type coming up which makes it look like weeds are popping up.
Don't waste your money until summer unless you really like putting on linoleum!!

Played On 08/02/2015Unacceptable Pace of Play
This was the worst round for pace of play we have encountered this year! When we arrived we went to the range but they had not picked the range and had no balls available. Then as we were about to begin the starter noticed our GPS was not working and we had to switch carts. But worst of all, was a 5 hour and 15 minute round in the dead heat of summer. We had 2 groups ahead that were oblivious (taking extra shots, giving each other on-course lessons and walking the speed of turtles on crutches.
We called the pro shop to complain and they said it was unacceptable and would come out. THEY NEVER DID! When we complained again at the end of round - they apologized but said they had no one they could send out due to staffing levels.

The whole experience at this Troon facility was great. It started with the staff at the bag drop and pro shop. Very attentive and friendly. Practice facility was very nice with complimentary balls and tees. Was allowed to go off early as well.
The course was in great shape and we loved the bent-grass greens - you seldom find these type of greens in Tucson. Course was interesting and challenging with many strategically-placed bunkers and water (lakes and creeks).
Very scenic course which we plan to play as much as possible.
South at Boulders Golf Club & Resort
Played On 06/15/2015Greens staff oblivious to golfers.
We were really looking forward to our stay at The Boulders. As a guest at the resort, we booked a round of golf on the last day of our stay (a Monday). Our round was basically ruined by rude greens/maint staff on nearly every hole. Now I am not upset by 1 guy mowing ... but we are talking 5-6 workers on many holes doing mowing, watering with hoses, blowing grass clippings, in the traps, etc. They seemed oblivious to our presence - would not get out of the way or shut down loud machinery. Of the 18 holes we played, we were only allowed to relax on 4 Holes!!!
We will never return to this course. The supervisor really needs to educate his staff on how to be courteous to paying guests. Or maybe they should have closed the North course this day if they really had that much work to perform. My money is too important to waste a round of golf being harassed by the maint crew all day long.
del Lago Golf Club
Played On 05/31/2015Slow Greens
Greens were very slow compared to most all area courses we have played. Tee boxes were in really bad shape as most were either shaggy or lacking grass at all. Course was fun, but plan on many forced carries to reach safe landing areas. Pace of play was good the day we played even though course was pretty crowded.
Quarry Pines Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2015Fun Course in Fair Shape
We have played this course before and always enjoy it. Pace of play was good (4 hours) considering crowded conditions. We were somewhat disappointed in the course conditions given the recent periodic rains and cool weather.
Fairways were hard and grass was sparse in many locations. Greens were hard and fast with many of our approach shots failing to hold. Fairways and greens could use a good aeration! Other than that, we enjoyed the day and we always like the back 9!
Hi Steve, we are sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience the other day. We aren't sure why you thought we punched the greens, as we had already done that weeks ago and our fairways had no water on them as we are in hotter weather right now. Again, we apologize about your experience and hope this provides some clarity.
