Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Champions Course
Played On 09/30/2015Dangerous Course!
This was my first time at Tukwet Canyon. I was legitimately excited to play this course.
First time my buddy and I noticed the poor conditions was when I was walking between the bunker and green on the 3rd hole. Suddenly I twist my ankle pretty hard. First thought, maybe gopher or ground squirrel. Nope, it was an irrigation access panel right next to a sprinkler head. Completely covered over with grass.
Next comes pace of play. We were behind a foursome playing in some kind of match play. We saw the Marshall several times, but he did nothing to speed them up. There were multiple times where the 4 was looking for a ball for 15 or more minutes! One time, one of the golfers came back 250+ yards to hit a provisional!
Then comes hole 10. Now my buddy twists his ankle on the same exact kind of irrigation panel... again it was covered in grass and well camouflaged.
Oh, did I mention because there is a bunch of couse construction going on, we had to hit around many grounds workers?! No fault to the workers, they did their best to be out of the way. However, when grounds workers have to move on 5 of the holes... maybe you shouldn't have opened the course just yet!
Serious note to Tukwet staff. My buddy and I are young guys. Able to walk off these minor strains. But the course is dangerous. Lots of construction. Have your Marshall hurry people along because a round that is 5 1/4 hours long for only 17 holes is horrendous!
This course has tons of potential, and I definitely would like to play when it is safer and construction is complete. Maybe pace of play would be a little better when players don't have to park lateral to their ball and walk all the way across the course.
Brea Creek Golf Course

This may be biased because I shot the best round of my life here.
Course is very easy, great confidence builder. Greens are not flat, so puts are decently challenging. Most 3's are reachable by iron, many greens protected by bunkers, but most bunkers are shallow and easy to get out of.
Even though this is a very short 9, it is a gem. I will definitely play here again, and again.
Back Bay Golf Course, The
Played On 07/04/2015DO NOT PAY FOR THIS COURSE!
Okay, I played here several times ONLY because I was staying at the Hyatt and it is free for patrons.
The only thing pleasant about this course is the view. There are weeds everywhere, you have to tee off from mats, the greens have weeds and crab grass. Seriously, the grounds guy(s) only mow this place.
If this place got it's stuff together, I would gladly play $5-$10 a round for this pitch and put, even if I were staying at the hotel.
So much wasted potential.
Paradise Knolls
Played On 07/01/2015Ugh! That Rough! Fringe is worse!
So I played with a friend who is an eight handicapper. He had the same exact problems I did.
So have you ever played a course when you know you put enough into the ball to get forward roll off the fringe? How about several times in the game? Great chips absolutely DIE on the fringe. It's like chipping into a sponge! Then if you hit the green, you just chipped onto a plate of glass!
If you miss the fairway, the rough is absolutely horrible. I think this is the kind of conditions Pro's and Amateurs play in, with the big exception that the rough is NOT manicured at all! Very difficult to find your ball in the rough after a shot, even if you know where it landed. This rough is so tough that I had to close my clubhead 10* and still toed the ball several times.
WOULD NOT SUGGEST FOR BEGINNERS!

Okay, this is the best 9 hole course in the surrounding area. Definitely not a pitch and put, but there are 2 holes where you have to grab a wedge a the box (2 & 9).
Greens are usually in good shape, and the grounds crew is constantly working. Fairways aren't very well defined; but, they keep up the rough as well as the rest of the course so mishits won't end up in a horrible lie.
On a good day a single can get through the course in 1 1/4 hours. I've done it on several occasions. Best times for quick games are between 9-10 and 1-4.
Los Lagos at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club
Played On 06/21/2015Great for the beginner
So I played this course a couple times. First time was almost exactly a year ago and was my first full 18.
Only played scrambles on this course due to pace of play. The greens are decently challenging, with one hole kinda like an old school rounded hourglass.
It seemed the party in front of us was playing pretty slow, so they moved them up a hole along with our party so we only got to play 17 holes.
Easy to make par on several holes, and my 2 man would have been only 3 over if we didn't waste 3 strokes trying to get out of the 18th hole bunker.
Fun course, just wish they would give a little more than 8 minutes per tee time due to the amount of slower players, and how booked they get on the weekend.
