Cleveland Country Club
Played On 04/26/2022Challenging Track! No crowds
I tried in vain to find a course preview online for this course but all I could find were a few picture, a scorecard and good ol’ google maps. All I can say is this course is all about elevation change. Don’t let the first couple of hole fool you on each nine. Almost every other drive and approach will be uphill or downhill. Some up hill approaches I was forced to club up two clubs they were that step. I like how whoever designed the course kept the natural layout of the property. This is a country club so they do a have a few easy to follow rules but the staff was very welcoming. Elephant in the room for me, however, was where are all the members? Playing most of my golf around Charlotte it has been a long time since I have played a round of golf in the middle of the day and not seen a single other golfer. Now, the greens were sandy after maintenance but still rolled very pure, it was a Tuesday afternoon and the weather was a bit windy, but still where were the members. Also be ready to go when you show up this course does not have a driving range. All in all the golf now deal was a great value for the price.

First off I have to commend this course for all the great programs they offer for youth sports that my kids participate in. I really wish the city would invest some money into this place. The most challenging aspect of this course are the greens that have a decent amount of undulation for public course. I felt the green speeds were somewhat inconsistent. The layout of the course was fair. Pace of play was awful at almost 5 hours and a twosome was allowed to jump out in front of us at the turn, which I was not happy about given the slower pace of play.

First off anytime a 4 some can complete 18 under 4 hours I am happy. This course does feature many blind shots and typical of a Mtn course up and downhill approaches. I felt the challenges were fair and course was a cool layout. Definitely a challenging course to play for the first time, with some “local knowledge” you could get around this place pretty well. The Par 6th 17th was worth the the hype and require 3 really solid strikes to get a chance for birdie. The Bentgrass greens were in good shape and rolled very nice with decent speed.

Still one of my favorite tracks. Even with the wet spring we have had course was in nice shape. The greens as always were wonderful!

10/10 for me with this course. This is a championship caliber course that is friendly for golfers of all skill levels. The greens were very nice with some good speed to them. The course has many elevation changes for a non-mountain course that added to the challenge. Clubhouse was beautiful and the staff was very friendly. I especially appreciated the Golf Carts with very accurate GPS including locators of other carts around you so you don’t accidentally hit into someone on a few of the blind tee shots. Course was in excellent condition. We drove 1.5 hrs up from Charlotte to play this course and it was well worth the trip.
The 500 Club

This course is a gem in the making. The housing community being built around the course makes things a little confusing and they could use a better snack bar, but that is about all I can find wrong. The front nine was a bit more challenging than the back with what the locals call Devils Elbow holes 6-8 that are very unforgiving. By far the best part of this course is it’s greens. They roll at a good pace and are some of the truest greens I have putted. Not a ton of undulations so if you are a good to decent putter you can expect to make some putts, which always makes for a fun round. We played on a Thursday on a hot day so it wasn’t too busy our 4-some pace of play was under 5hrs counting a 30 min lunch break. Staff was very friendly, it would be nice to offer a yardage book to first time players, many other course will do that.
Monroe Country Club
Played On 06/18/2015Even with the hot dry conditions course was in great shape
I had a great time with my family as a early Father's Day present. The staff was very accommodating with my desire to be a single since I had my young kids with me and didn't want to be in a foursome. I was very impressed with the condition of the course despite the 100 degree temps. Greens rolled very well and were consistent. My only small was issue was the lack of yardages on sprinkler heads. I found it difficult to find a good yardages, this increases the challenge when playing the course for the first time. That aside I was happy with the experience and was well worth trip from Charlotte to play a new track.
