Lago Vista Golf Course
Played On 10/6/2013Fairways too long and very slow
Wow. The course is just beautiful and green and nestled out in the hills near Lake Travis. I dismissed many of the reviews on this site about the long fairway grass because I thought surely they have this under control by now, but the fairway grass was about as long as the grass in my front yard. We usually play about 3.5 hours for 18 holes, but this took us 4.25 hours as there was almost no ball roll on the fairway and you could barely barely tell the fairway from the rough. Greens were well kept. It was the most frustrating course I have ever played. Won't be going back soon. Maybe this is why the course was not slamming on a 75 degree beautiful sunny Sunday.
Point Venture Golf Club
Played On 9/2/2013Other Players Often Slow or Loud
We like this course and the value is always great. The staff is laid back and friendly. Due to water restrictions the fairways are bone dry, but what can they do about that? Nothing if we do not get any rain here in Cen Tex. There does not seem to be anyone assigned to marshall the course and this is often an issue there. We have run into some super slow people who are rude and could care less that they are holding up carts of people. On Labor Day, there was a loud big group hogging the course, playing around, drinking and acting loud and drunk and there was no one moving along the course of play. We have met some very nice people there as well, but they really should monitor the course of play there better.
Crystal Falls Golf Course
Played On 8/22/2013Back 9 Beautiful
Usually this course is a bit expensive for a city course, but we did find a tee time that was affordable. Well, maintained in the dry weather. The greens were much better than most courses in the Austin area during the summer with watering restrictions. We have not played this course for about 7 years and the front nine is built up with houses and it is so sad because the whole course was in the middle of the hill country back then. Now a bunch of houses and noise on the front 9 from construction. The back nine is still rustic and beautiful. Hope it stays that way! What happened to the 18th hole and the "crystal falls"? It really lost its beauty! Other than the course becoming more built up and effected by the houses, the course itself is very nice and a lot of fun to play. You will be exhausted from walking up and down the hills so be ready.
Mustang Creek Golf Course
Played On 8/8/2013Fun Course and Challenging
This course definitely has challenges as a 9 hole. Growing up my grandparents lived in Taylor, but I did not come from a family of golfers and did not know Taylor had a golf course until I started playing recently. It is a neatly kept course with a laid back small town feeling. The players and atmosphere is not stuffy and the staff and other players are friendly. Wish it would rain there to help them out with the greens and water ponds.
