Mays Landing Golf Club
Played On 07/29/2022Pathetic
I would call this course a goat farm - except even goats wouldn't go here. Without question, the worst-conditioned course I have ever played (and I play close to 100 rds/yr). Fungus on the greens, poor turf on the fairways, horrible sand traps... and worst of all, they still have the nerve to charge $69!!! DO NOT GO HERE. If you can't get a tee time anywhere else, then go bowling. Do anything - but don't go here.
Mercer Oaks Golf Course - East Course
Played On 08/31/2021What happened to the East course???
Have played at Mercer Oaks dozens of times over the years and have always enjoyed it. Was last there 2 months ago (end of June). It’s almost inconceivable how the conditions of a course could go downhill so quickly in such a short period of time! It’s almost as if no maintenance has been done at all, other than mowing. The tees are a mess, the traps are a mess (totally unraked with all sorts of weeds in most), the rough is just a blanket of crabgrass and the greens are a joke (hadn’t been mowed for days and the aprons are either nothing but dirt or have been allowed to grow in with crabgrass). It’s almost criminal how they have let this course deteriorate — and my biggest fear is that they’ve lost it to the point that they might not get it back to where it once was. It’s that bad, folks. Yes, they’ve recently aerated the greens and tees - I’m not talking about that. The lack of maintenance is just so obvious, you have to wonder if anyone is minding the store. I don’t know what’s going on over there, but golfers should be advised that this is not the same course you’ve come to know and appreciate. This was my 66th round this year, played over more than 30 courses, and this was BY FAR the worst conditioned course I have played. Golfer beware. P.S. They also have no water coolers out on the course - make sure you bring your own!
Old York Country Club
Played On 07/25/2019Course is pretty beat up right now
I've played this course 4x in the past and have always enjoyed myself. It has an interesting layout (although I'm not fond of #10 or #12) and has always been in good shape. With the recent heavy rains however, this course has taken a beating. It's no one's fault (although the tee boxes *were* pretty chewed up which surprised us) - it's just Mother Nature wreaking havoc, particularly on the fairways. I would imagine it will take several weeks before it's back in decent shape. If you have a Groupon like we did, wait until mid-August. NOTE: Normally I would give this course at least 4 stars, but want to warn people to give it some time to heal before venturing out.
The Bucks Club
Played On 07/19/2018Sleeper!
I live 20 minutes from here and have only played it 4-5 times in the past. But after playing it twice this week, I have to say this course is a real sleeper! (And I mean that in a GOOD way!) There is an excellent variety of holes, the conditions are very good (greens are excellent - quick and VERY undulating!) Maybe the best set of par 3's for a public golf course in a 45 minute radius. The staff is very friendly and efficient (shout out to Cathy in the Pro Shop and Linda at the bar) and the pace of play - at least during the week - was fine (3:55). I have walked and taken a cart; would probably advise the latter as the back 9 has a bit of distance between some greens & tees. Overall, an excellent experience that will keep me coming back on a more regular basis.
