About

Inconsistent but improving rapidly. I've managed to shed 15 strokes off my game in the last 2 years. Decent short game, ok iron play, tee shots are streaky (hit or miss). Managing the course and my strengths vs. weaknesses is something I've been getting good with. One swing at a time is the key for me.

Challenging and Fun!

The course will test your patience on one hole and then have you pulling out your camera on the next. Lots of fun. A definite challenge. When I played it was a little soggy but no matter. The one and only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of a beverage / snack cart on a weekend.

Greens not up to this courses normal standard.

The course as a whole is in good shape. It's been a very wet spring and start to the summer and Sanctuary Cove is showing that. Greens are in a state of maintenance and not up to the standard this course normally presents. No matter though as this course makes up for it in every other way. Still one of the nicest, most enjoyable places you will ever tee it up!

Not Bad, Not Great

Average course. Worth it if you can find a deal. Lay out is sometimes awkward but there are a few holes that are memorable.

First Time Playing and Loved It!

My second 5 star rating! Unbelievable! Beautifully kept, fair and challenging. Rewarded for aggressive play as well as managed play. Greens are in fantastic shape. Course layout keeps you on your toes for sure. If you live in JAX then you have to play here. If you are passing through then stop!

Fun and Fair

I played this course twice in the last week. Condition is excellent. Fairways, greens, fantastic shape! Greens can be fast when they are shaved. Don't mess with the water or marsh. If you have a shot that you see slopes toward the hazard, steer clear! Do not underestimate the slopes! You'll see what I mean. I assure you this course will be a blast to play. Get out there!

Over Priced

Play was painfully slow. Course marshal was rude. Almost collided with me in the cart when he came whipping around a blind turn and then was nasty about it. Greens, fairways, tee boxes in terrible condition. There's better value for your money in the area.

Fast

First time I played South Hampton. The course is very fast. Loads of roll in the fairway and the greens are extremely quick. Overall there is quite a challenge. Don't be fooled by the wide open fairways. The greens are deadly and will eat you up if you're not careful. Definitely be aggressive off the tee and very careful and deliberate on and around the greens. Enjoy!

INCREDIBLE!

Wow! My first 5 star rating and well deserved. This is quite literally one of my favorite courses I've ever played. Today was the first time I've played the course and I am floored by it's beauty, challenge, and playability. Every inch of Sanctuary Cove is pristine. The par 3's are some of the most gorgeous par 3's you'll ever play. Every green is perfect. Fairways are plush, plush, and plush again. The feel of this course from the 1st tee to the 18th green is nothing but southern charm. There just are not enough good things to say about this track. Man, I played terribly too but what a great time I had. I think I was too busy taking it all in. Can't wait to go back. Play this course ASAP! Wow!

Terrific Shape!

Royal continues to be maintained amazingly! The greens are absolutely pristine and the fairways are not far behind. Staff is always friendly. Pace of play was a little slower than it normally is but that's no bother. Take my advice; no driver on 1, cut the corner on 3, definitely driver on 5, cut the corner on 13, expect to give up a stroke on 15, go for the green on 16, pound your second shot on 18, then go grab a little food and drink at the grill. Really nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. Love this course!

Not Really Impressed

Cool location right near the beach. Course needs serious attention. Fairways are like hitting off weeds and most of the greens are dirt. Course lay out is challenging but awkward as the holes are right on top of each other. No particular hole stands out to me as challenging or really good looking. Staff is really nice though, particularly the bar and beverage cart attendants. I played for a good deal but would only play again for the same or better deal.

So-So

My overall experience here was average at best. The course has a heap of potential and there seems to be some effort to manicure the course but it's definitely not there yet. Upon arriving, there is no distinct signage to direct you where you need to go, or to be, to execute the most simple pieces of showing up to a golf club like; dropping your bag, getting a cart, checking in, etc. All of these things are somewhat hidden or well separated from the parking lot which makes arrival awkward and confusing. Quite alright if this were a private club but since they are trying to attract public play, it would be recommended to create a more welcoming experience that includes signage and/or direction on where to go. This may sound crazy but it took me 15 minutes to figure out where to go to check in from the time I pulled into the lot. I've never had that problem at other clubs. As far as the course, really cool layout, lots of challenge, but very fair. Fairways are wide open, greens are pretty small and very well protected. Overall, the grounds were quite soggy which caused my ball to plug way too many times on the fairway and fringe (we haven't had much rain in the area recently). Greens are a little chewed up but not bad. Had to putt through or around sand patches. Same goes for the fairways. The staff was okay. They were cordial but mostly dismissive almost like I was a bother. Like I said, the overall experience was average at best. I will likely never play here again and it's really a shame because this could be an amazing place. If the club improved on that first impression upon entrance and focus on extra friendliness, the little course issues are easily ignored.

Fun, Challenging, Excellent Conditions

Where you will surely suffer a few notorious 'Royal' rolls into trouble if you don't watch your shot placement, the course conditions and fantastic staff make it worth the extra few strokes or the occasional ball. Fortune will favor the bold on this track. I've been playing this course for 4 years and have found the more aggressively I play it the better I score. Pick your spots and get after it, then enjoy a cold one with the friendly bar staff.

Fun, Very Nice Staff, Good Conditions

I go back and forth with the value of this course. If you find a 'Hot Deal' then take advantage as it's worth every penny. Regular greens fees are a bit aggressive. Course is almost always in good to excellent condition. Challenge is moderate. Par 3 8th hole with a back left pin is one of my all-time favorite Par 3's really challenging and fun hole. The following Par 5 9th I really enjoy also. Both holes have a great look to them and play challenging and fair. Par 4 15th is a unique and fun hole also. Staff is nice and very welcoming. I play here about once a month and would recommend.

Classic Coastal Golf

Always enjoy playing this Davis Love course. It's a classic coastal golf experience complete with unique wild life and beautiful views. 2, 3, 4, and 6 give you great marsh views. Where the front 9 has that coastal feel the back 9 is the familiar Georgia lay out that winds through pines, oaks, and the occasional palm. Rolling and winding fairways, long approach shots, changes in elevation all make the back good challenge. 6 is the toughest hole on the course in my opinion. Double dog leg that leaves you with an interesting decision on your second and/or third shots. You will see what I mean. Staff is friendly. Club house is reasonably priced. Worth the $30 or so you'll pay to play even better if you can get a deal. I try and play this course once a month to once every six weeks.

Hills in Florida?

Yes. That's correct. This course does indeed have rolling hills. For a Florida course there are a load of elevation changes which bring great texture to the track that you don't usually find in the Sunshine State. The first hole alone (straight away par 4) is a 15-20 foot incline from tee to green. 10th hole is up 10-12 feet and then down around a corner 10-15 feet at least. 18th second shot down hill 20 feet and over water. This is to only name a few. I was pleasantly surprised with the value of this course as it is very well kept and the facilities are nice albeit slightly aged. I drive through Orlando often for work and always pack my clubs to stop at Rolling Hills for at least 9 holes because the location is perfect. Five minutes off the I-4. Check it out and enjoy.

Great Priced Practice Round

This is not the nicest course or the most challenging. It's maintained but not in terrific shape. But for everything it's not, I had a GREAT time playing here. The staff is really nice and welcoming. The price is fantastic! My thought, instead of 10 bucks on the range, try 10 bucks and some real practice around a course. Like I said, not in terrific shape but if you are just interested in giving the ball a whack for a good price you won't be disappointed. I had a blast and would recommend.
