Fun little course to play

This was my first trip here since the hurricane in 2018. Course lost a tremendous amount of trees and was closed for about 18 months. Main clubhouse was closed and they are operating out of a small building at the driving range. Greens are usually slow here and today was no different. Many of the greens had bad spots but pins were located in the better areas for the most part. I have seen this course in better shape than it was today. It's still a fun par 60 track that I played in 2 hours as a single.

Fun to play

I’ve been at the beach for several weeks and this was my second trip to Panama CC. The course was private pre-Hurricane Michael but now open to the public. Booked on GolfNow. A Donald Ross design, they lost thousands of trees which means it’s wide open now. Still a lot of evidence of damage especially to the cart paths. Greens were excellent and fairways very good. There are quite a few black fox squirrels that run over the course, not sure if the lack of trees is an issue but I had several approach in what appeared to be an aggressive manner. Apparently many of the members feed them so that’s why they approach. It got on my nerves several times but now that I know I’ll bring a bag of peanuts next time to distract them. Give this course a try, staff is very friendly and they are trying hard to get the place back, you won’t be disappointed.

The more I play it the more I like it.

Booked the “bargain” GolfNow rate in early afternoon. I kinda felt like a second class passenger when I checked in. Told I would be paired up with several other bargain buyers which was ok. Also told I would be given a scorecard by the starter. Went to the range followed by putting green. Never saw the starter so I teed off alone at my designated tee time as rain was in the forecast. I had to ask the beverage cart girl to pick me up a scorecard when she passed the pro shop and didn’t get one until I finished #8. The course is very challenging but is always in good shape. Now that they focus all their attention on the Nicklaus course after the closure of the Meadows course you can’t ask for better. A real bargain for this area when you get the low discounted rate.

Good deal using GolfNow.

I’ve been vacationing in the area for years and always wanted to play this course, especially since they claim to have best greens on the beach. Most times I’ve been here the greens fees were rather exorbitant so when I saw a deal on GolfNow just after 2pm I decided to give it a try. Paired up with three others which was ok. Staff in pro shop was friendly, starter let a twosome out ahead of us but I think they were members and they moved on by #3. Course was better than I expected but compared to others in the area that also offer online discounts, it’s really nothing to brag about, especially if you’re paying full price. Pace of play was good until we caught up with another foursome on #10 then it was slow going the rest of the way in. Greens and fairways in very good condition. I’d play it again if I could get the same deal.

Worth the drive

A little off the beach but glad I went. I haven’t played a lot of courses in the panhandle but this was my favorite so far. Nice layout among man made dunes which separate the holes from each other and the housing. Staff very friendly, excellent practice areas (driving range, chipping area with bunker and MASSIVE putting green that gets you ready for what you’ll see on the course. Large greens that were in the best condition I’ve seen in the area, generous fairways with multiple tees to suit any skill level. Pace of play was a bit slow for my taste but enjoyable. Will return next time I’m in the area.

Seen better days

I have played this course about six times due to its proximity to the condo I stay at in PCB. My most recent trip found the course in the worst shape I’ve ever seen it. It looked ok from the road but the greens were very rough and most had been heavily sanded. They have always been slow but they were almost unbearable. Fairways were ok but looked like they needed water. Drought may be to blame. The only positive was I went around the track as a single in 2 hrs 10 min. With other courses in the area that are better, this may be my last trip to Signal Hill.

Michael took its toll

The course was recommended to me a couple of years ago but since it was a private CC, I never tried to get on it when I was in the PCB area. This year, it showed up on GolfNow so I booked a time. A Donald Ross design, the vast majority of the majestic oaks that previously lined its fairways are now gone, making the course much more open and forgiving. Still a challenging layout due to the size and contour of the greens, which were in pretty good shape. Practice area was pretty rough and the main clubhouse was still closed, with the pro shop operating out of a trailer. I wish I could have played it before the hurricane. Staff was friendly and course was not busy on a Tuesday so I went around in 2.5 hours. I plan to play it again the next time I’m in the area.

I’ll be back.

I always try to play Bay Point when I’m in town. The very first time (about 5-6 yrs ago) I played the Nicklaus course but ever since I’ve played the Meadows course since it was usually easier to get a tee time and it was not as challenging. I guess my game has advanced enough now that I actually enjoyed playing the Nicklaus course since the Meadows is closed indefinitely. I booked an early afternoon time and the course was pretty much deserted allowing me to tee off a bit early. Course was in great shape, my only complaint was the drop area on #2 was awful, like the third cut of rough it was so deep. Never seen a drop area so awful. Other than that I hope to return very soon.

Hidden gem

First time here and only 45 minutes away so wish I had discovered this place sooner. Played during greens aerification so they were not mowed and slow. Hot dry weather recently showed on most of these bent grass greens but I do plan to return in cooler weather to see what they are like then. Great scenery and views everywhere. Fairways and tees in good condition. Only disappointment was the condition of the bunkers but they may have had heavy rain the day before so I’ll give them a pass, especially since I managed to avoid all of them. Wish there were more water coolers, especially in 90 degree plus weather like we had today. Super friendly staff and nice clubhouse with dining that I did not try.
