Abbey Springs Golf Course
Played On 08/13/2015Retired Super's opinion
This is a well maintained nicely designed course. Very friendly staff. Pace of play was what ever speed I chose to play. Greens where quick and true. The only negative I had with the course was pin placement. The greens have a lot of elevation change (their hilly) some of the pins where in areas that was borderline illegal. Put in spots you could put a 20 footer up to the hole and if you where short they would roll all the way back to you. Otherwise I would highly recommend.

The course is in good shape. Greens are fast and true.really the only complaint I have is the pace of play 3 hours to play 9 holes is way too slow.

I rated this course for what it is a 9 hole city course. It isn't Augusta National (which I've been there ) . This is a very well maintained challenging course with a nice layout. The clubhouse is newer, clean, well maintained building. Lunch was VERY good more of a restaurant than a golf clubhouse. Staff was friendly and professional. This is as good as it gets for a 9 hole city course !!!

DON'T PLAY THIS COURSE !!! I have played this course off and on for 30 years. I like the design and hills. I was very disappointed with the staff and course conditions and pace of play. 1) The staff was rude, I normally get to the course 45 minutes to a hour before my tee time to putt and hit a few balls at the range to loosen up. The counter guy gives me a lecture about us " Golf Now Guys " coming early and think we can get out earlier than our assigned time. Then after listening to this guy the starter came in and told me how busy they where where and he said they were 20 minutes behind later unless I got out right away. So I did. I instantly caught up with a 4 sum 2 women and 2 guys walking who had no idea of course etiquette. They would stand on the greens figuring out how many strokes they had taken. No ranger anywhere around. 2) course was full of weeds, greens were in poor conditions bare patches and bumpy, as a whole it was a mess. 3) I mentioned the 4 sum that started in front of us they let us through on the 5th hole then we caught a new 4 sum walking on the 7th hole that seemed to be playing for money and I honestly believe that they might have been the slowest group I've ever followed. ( and I was a superintendent at Sun City Center in Florida for 16 years). They seemed to have the additude we are regulars, you'll have to wait. And we could see no one in front of them for several holes. When I went in afterwards and told the counter guy he laughed and said you must have caught the "Winter's group" and he actually laughed. This course will never get another dime from me !!!!

The course is tough but fair. In very good condition. The problems I had with my golf experience here are: 1) You have to walk alot even if you get a cart. The paths are twice as far away from the greens as normal on other courses, and they prevent you from driving up to the approach as normal stopping you from coming as close as 125 yards on a few holes. 2) We played behind a slow group which I know will happen. And was ok with it, but the ranger keeped coming up and explaining how he trying to hurry them. He came up so often it made us uncomfortable until I told him bluntly I don't mind they're not that slow.
St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course

I was a golf course superintendent for 20+ years. This course is in rather good shape for this time of year. It's fair for all levels of players. The greens rolled true. Staff is very friendly. If your strictly interested in esthetics the paths need repaving. And they don't have pretty flower beds at every tee and there are few benches at the tees and the building is a little older. IF YOU LIKE TO GOLF, YOU WILL ENJOY A ROUND ON EITHER COURSE.

I am a retired golf course superintendent. I have 30 plus years in this field. This is a well maintained. Very fair and interesting design of the course. Greens are above average. Mature trees. Strategically positioned water. I enjoyed my day a great deal. I would have given it a 5 star, but I have played Augusta, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, and the Blue Monster.
We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed the course. Thanks for the review!
Thank you for noticing our hard efforts to get the course in good condition from the winter. We hope to see you back soon!
