Pace of Play Untenable!!!

I went out as a single late in the afternoon to get in 9 holes. It took 1 hr to play the 1st 3 holes so I gave up. Groups ahead took forever looking for their balls in the washes, unprepared to hit their next shots while waiting for their playing partner. No ranger on the course to speed up play. Ridiculous that it would translate in a 6 hour round!

Greens Like Putting on Marble

Nice layout. Fairways and greens dormant. Fairway grass cut too short. Easier to hit from rough. Greens fastest

Play It!!!

Played their many times and well worth the drive from Tucson. Great layout, always in immaculate condition. Often Javalina and deer lounging about. Staff very friendly and inviting and rates very reasonable. Greens are among the best in Southern Arizona (public or private). Wonderful bar, restaurant! Go play!

Where's the Fairway Grass?

Have played El Conquistador a few times a year for many years. Sometimes the greens are slow but generally the course is in good shape. Playing today though was very disappointing. The fairways were completely burnt out. No grass! Hard to know the last time they were watered. Had considered becoming a member but not under those conditions. Ironically, they had just installed a new sprinkler system a couple years ago and are doing the same now for the Canada Course. You would think the new system would be an improvement and maybe so, if they used it.

Spectacular layout. challenging greens!

Played a combination of the Mountain & Canyon courses due to the recent rain. Course was in immaculate condition, a tribute to the maintenance staff. Great holes, generous fairways, greens putt pure but challenging to judge the speed and break due to the mountain effect. Staff were terrific in determining the sequence of holes to play.
Go play!

Wasted $45

Looked forward to playing AZ. Nat'l with friends. A playing partner made the reservation directly through the pro shop and I called the day before to verify the tee time. When we arrived at the 1st tee after paying in the pro shop we were advised by the starter that a number of holes had the white & blue tee boxes closed for repairs. Consequently, we had to choose between the ladies tee or the tips. Had we been given that courtesy when we called to book the round or check the tee time we would have played elsewhere. Shame on the AZ. Nat'l staff! Unfortunately, the issues don't end there. The course conditions were abysmal! Tee markers had not been moved in days and were chooped up and bare of grass. Large patches of dirt in fairways, the bunkers were rock hard and worst of all were the greens. They were ridicuously slow and bumpy. If you made a putt over 4' it was pure luck. I regularly play many courses around Tucson. In particular, Sewailo, San Ignacio, Del Lago. These courses are, by comparison, in excellent condition and in the same price range as AZ. Nat'l. The AZ. Nat'l GM and groundkeeper ought to be embarrased letting an otherwise great tract become 3rd rate and not informing players when booking of the tee box closures.

Improved Condition, great greens!

Thoroughly enjoy playing Sewailo. Challenging but fair layout. (# 10 one of the toughest holes around). Local knowledge a must to avoid fairway bunkers and water hazards. In past year noticed fairway and tee box conditions had deteriorated with patches of bare dirt, however the past 2 months conditions have improved. Greens are as good as any course in Tucson. Hold approach shots and are very smooth and true to putt. Staff are very welcoming! Go play!

Shabby Conditions

Have played Sewailo many times in the past few years. Love the layout but unfortunately course conditions have deteriorated the past year. Most recently, the greens were aerated but they ran out of sand to fill the holes so 3 weeks later the greens are still awful. Fairways are also dried out. Too bad because 3-4 years ago it was one of the best conditioned courses in Southern Arizona.

Challenging Layout, great views

Have played 2x this week. Positives include great layout and views. Very challenging. Actually maintain the rough instead of just dormant Bermuda. Negatives include carts with seat tears, cracked windshields, greens are rock hard and don't hold approach shots. (Leave your divot tool in the bag), tee boxes uneven and poorly maintained as are bunkers. Greens extremely fast on downhill putts. If your above the hole, good luck. Almost all greens slope hard toward the city and difficult to read. Local knowledge a must.

Greens Won't Hold Approach Shots!!!

Good to see the course finally completed the greens upgrades. They putt very true. Unfortunately they will not hold approach shots making the course virtually unplayable. Fairways are dormant Bermuda, painted green. Very disappointing. Our 4some will not be back.

Very Good Condition, Great Layout

Played in afternoon. Course empty. Greens and fairways in very good shape, especially for this time of year. Expect the same for another week before they close on 9/26 for overseeding. Bargain at $25.

A Gem!!!

The Highlands is the best maintained public course I"ve played in the past year. Tee boxes, fairways are immaculate. No dead grass, bare spots. Greens role very true but can be difficult to read due to mountain effect. Bunkers in great condition. Very fair and interesting layout. Staff are great. Free driving range balls and excellent practice facilities. Course practically empty during entire round. No beverage cart but strategically located water stations and ice chest on cart and a take out snack bar at the clubhouse. A must play during the summer when they have open public tee times.

Worthwhile

Course in good condition, especially considering the weather. Fairways had grass, greens held approach shots well but putted slow. Would like them cut shorter. Pace of play was slow. Had to wait on every shot behind a very slow 4some. One of the better maintained courses in Tucson, especially considering reasonable green fees.

A Gem!!!

Wonderful golf course. Very interesting holes, some very tight so demands accuracy. Fairways and greens in excellent condition. Great views. Maintenance staff continue to do a great job cleaning out the rough areas which speeds up play. Pro shop staff and starters both congenial and helpful. Nice bar & restaurant. Sand traps still need some work to be playable. Go play! Worth the drive.

Don't Waste Your Money

If you like paying overpriced fees for views of vast dirt wasteland, coupled with the stench from the nearby waste treatment plant...
Silverbell is for you. I don't understand how Silverbell and other city courses can charge such high green fees and barely maintain their courses. Where is that money going? Go play Arizona National, El Conquistador, Del Lago or San Ignacio for well maintained, quality golf layouts for the same price.
I will not be back!

My Gratitude to the staff

Played as a 3some. Added a 4th who was a pleasure to play with. Course in fair condition. Painted fairways/greens made it look better than is. Greens difficult to read. Lot of putts looked like they would break and didn't. That said worth a try. Fun layout.
Thank you to the terrific staff. I left my prescription glasses in the cart and to my delight the maintenance staff turned them in to the pro shop. Much appreciate your due diligence!!!

Excellent Course!

Kudos to San Ignacio! Course coming out of overseeding in great condition, as usual. Greens still slow but putted true. That was expected along with cart path only. Fairway grass coming in very nicely. In another week this course will be in great condition. Layout is one of the nicest in Southern Arizona. Some very interesting holes, including the signature Par 5 #13. Staff very welcoming. Hospitality cart adjacent to practice putting green. Only criticism is the extra charge for single carts.

Rip Off!

Booked a 4some over the phone for $25+tax. Arrived at the course and they had the tee time reserved but said the fee was $38+. Explained we were quoted $25 to no avail.
Course in horrible condition at any price. Tees overgrown or bare dirt. Fairways weeds and bare dirt and wet underneath. Every shot a mud ball. A 3 some two groups ahead of us and starter had a single playing right before us. Go figure.
Driving range off mats. Artificial grass too thick so ball sits down.
Will not be back. Many other Tucson area courses in much better condition, better rates and more welcoming. At least the hospitality cart woman was very attentive and efficient.

Overseeding Transition

Got a bargain rate to play mid-day. Wild Burro about to be overseeded so fairways bone dry. Sagauro had just opened after overseeding and fairway grass growing in very nicely. Greens were much slower than expected which was disappointing. Like the layout, challenging but overall fair. Very hot today (104) and no shade anywhere on the course. Would play it again but not for their typically high green fees.
GPS on carts a great help for determining distances to fairway bunkers except they showed wrong pin placements on greens. Oh well.
Disappointed with treatment by staff. When arrived cart person urged me to share a cart. I said when we booked our 4some (of senior citizens from different households) we were told individual carts were available. He reluctantly pointed me to a cart.

Worth It If Get A Bargain Rate

Played Canada Course. Greens aren't in the excellent condition of the bent grass greens on the Conquistador course but they are ok. Very scenic layout with some tough holes, particularly Par 3 #8 and Par 5 #9. Premium on driving accuracy. Staff welcoming. Practice tee off mats a disadvantage.
