Platteville Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/21/2023Wish I was a member here!
I've played this course on an average of once a year over the last several years and I think it is in the best condition ever. Greens were perfect, fairways, rough and tee boxes were in fine shape, despite the ongoing drought.
My only issue would be with the carts. They are really old, lack windshields, but still run ok. I didn't use the onsite pub/restaurant so no comment on that.
del Lago Golf Club
Played On 03/06/2023Nice layout, but needs maintenance
The greens are quite poor. In fact, they don't even look green. The grass is spotty but the roll is still pretty true. Traps have been totally ignored, which seems to be an issue with many courses. I would call them rock or gravel traps. The fairways were in decent shape for Arizona, that is, not thick and very short cut.
The staff was fine, the layout of the course was interesting, with some elevation changes and water.
Platteville Golf & Country Club
Played On 09/21/2022Good, older course but ....
I have played this course about 5 times. The greens are very small and fast. The cart we had worked fine but was a rather shabby old Yamaha with a torn seat. I do enjoy this course when the rates are more in line with the condition (which they were, thanks to golfnow).
My only problem was it appeared about 20 college age students (the team?) showed up and jumped on whatever hole they pleased! Four of them wanted to cut in front of us on the 3rd hole. No way! We were also held up a couple other times by different students from the same group who jumped ahead of us.
Lake Carroll Golf Course
Played On 08/15/2022Old timers should know etiquette!
I like this course. It’s well maintained, though the fairways were too long on the front nine. Mowers were out, but rather late. There were four residents/members in front of the two of us that we caught on hole four. They would look back at us but never invited us through. They were very slow and not very good. We hoped they would be done after nine, but no such luck. We skipped hole ten and finished the round, playing 17 holes.
These old stiffs should know better than to hold up a twosome.
Still, it’s a fun course and I would gladly play it again and assume that most all members know proper golf etiquette.
Bunker Hill Golf Course
Played On 11/06/2021Quirky, fun course
Bunker Hill appears to be an old course, located in the middle of a residential area. It has some interesting and memorable holes, unlike many area courses. It is fairly short so long hitters probably wouldn't enjoy it. The greens are well maintained, though the sand traps aren't , as I've noticed on almost every course I've played this year. The fairways are not immaculate, but at this price point that hardly matters. I enjoy this course for a change of pace from most area courses.
Lake Carroll Golf Course
Played On 07/07/2021Fun course, great value with Golfnow
Lake Carroll is part of the Lake Carroll home owner's association. Most of the holes have doglegs and many have elevated greens. There are 4 tee boxes, nicely spaced for different ability levels. The greens are mostly large and well kept. There are plenty of bunkers, grass and sand around greens and fairways.
The fairways were a little thin, but lack of rain is probably the reason. My only suggestion would be to edge the traps. They've gotten rather flat. A sharp tool and a couple of days could fix that.
Though it's an hour away, I look for great Golfnow deals and feel lucky to play this fun course at such a low rate.
Wolf Hollow Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2021Always enjoyable
I've played Wolf Hollow at Lena, IL many times over the last 20 years and always find it a pleasure. The course is well maintained, even in the drought conditions we are experiencing this year. It has an interesting variety of holes and, as a senior, can be played at a reasonable distance from the gold tees. The pro, Doral, is always welcoming and the bar staff is as well, The menu is limited and that's just fine for a quick after round lunch experience.
My only concerns were the sand traps, which were rather thin and hard and the areas of cart paths that are dirt and gravel and rough, though I realize that the cost of completing paths could be prohibitive. Regardless, those are minor issues and I will continue playing this enjoyable course.
Lake Carroll Golf Course
Played On 07/27/2020Fine, fun course for the money
The course is a very good value if you can get a Golfnow price. It is in good condition and the greens are excellent. The only two issues are the sand traps and cart paths. The sand traps need to be edged, as the edges are rounded and grass is growing into the edges of the traps. The cart paths on the front nine were quite rough and need repair or replacement.
Overall, it is a very nice course, with lots of doglegs, sand and a variety of holes.
SaddleBrooke Ranch Golf Club
Played On 04/01/2020A decent course for the price
The clubhouse was understandably shut and the toilets as well. They are taking many necessary precautions to avoid spreading illness.
I felt the course was a rather uninteresting layout, with only one memorable hole (#10). The greens were in great shape, but the fairways were rather thin. The traps were excellent, unlike some I’ve played recently in Tucson.
There just aren’t many challenges on this course. Amber that’s on purpose, to make it more playable and enjoyable for the local residents. If so, that’s a good thing. But for an “outsider”, I just found it pretty easy.
I would go back, if I got another great price on golf now. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere.
Forty-Niner Country Club
Played On 03/20/2020Good course, not a true "desert" course
This is not a true "desert" course like some of the upscale courses in the area. It is mostly flat and walkable, except for a few long strolls from green to tee. It is well kept, thought there is nothing but hard pan off the fairways. Greens are in good shape and very true. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The back nine is more challenging than the front. The course winds through housing, and you need to cross several streets during the round.
I enjoy the course at the price point I have paid. If you're looking for a course through the desert and with beautiful desert surroundings, though, this one is not for you.
I enjoy it and will play it again, at the right price.
Forty-Niner Country Club
Played On 03/27/2019Fun course for the money
The course does not feature any special holes. It’s mostly straight out or slight dogleg left holes. The greens and fairway and first cut rough are in excellent shape. The greens are small, but the roll is very true. The course is very flat but most greens are slightly elevated. I can’t comment on the sand trap conditions, as I wasn’tin One, but they looked thin. My only objections is that the second cut rough is hard pan or dirt. Bar and restaurant on site are very good.
I’ll play here again, as long as the rates are reasonable.
Quarry Pines Golf Club
Played On 04/01/2018Scenic, well maintained course with great views
The front nine is rather ordinary, with one interesting hole around water. The fairways and greens are in fine shape, considering watering has probably been cut back due to the drought. The greens are very hard, which seems typical for courses I have played here.
The back nine is spectacular. Only one or two ordinary holes here. Lots of elevation. This nine was built around a defunct quarry and lots of thought was put into it. This nine is way harder than the front, with lost balls a common occurrence on several holes. Very memorable. This nine reminds me a bit of the spectacular Wolf Creek course in Mesquite, NV.
Because it was Easter, the cart person was not on and the shop closed around three. There were ample places to fill water bottles on the course.
I’ve played five or six courses around Tucson and this one is my favorite by far. Hope to play again next year. Thanks to Golfnow for a great rate!
Thank you for your 5 star review. We strive to create the best possible golfing experience for our guests. We hope to see you again soon.
Forty-Niner Country Club
Played On 03/21/2018GOod for the $
My first time playing this course. It’s not a memorable layout, but a fun round. The pace of play was too slow as there were too many twosomes backed up behind a four group or two. The course is clearly cutting back on watering-a good idea In a drought stricken desert. It does make for considerable hard pan lies away from the fairway, though. I also thought the greens were too dry and fast. The sand traps were inconsistent- some too thin, others full. Fairways, for Arizona, were very good and consistent.
But, the rate was excellent from Golfnow and the staff was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. In my experience, this was the most welcome I have EVER felt at any course, anywhere. I would gladly play here again-but only with a good rate from Golfnow.
River Run Golf Links
Played On 01/09/2014Good value for the money
Thanks to Golfnow, I bought the round at a great discount. At the regular rate of $42.50, it would not have been a good value. The course see,ms to get a lot of play as a muni course, but was in good shape overall. The par 4 and 5 holes tended to be short and not memorable for the most part. Par 3 holes were more interesting.
