Good day

Not a long course, but tight on shorter holes and challenging pin positions on smaller greens. It's a place you can score well if you hit good shots and very playable for players that aren't super long. Greens had lots of ball marks like everywhere around here this time of year but rolled nicely. Some tee boxes were very beat up. Didn't have to go inside to check in which was also nice in these times. Good value and worth a shot if you haven't played.

decent course, played on a busy day

The course was packed and there wasn't a starter or ranger which caused some issues of slow play. Front 9 took almost 2.5 hours, which is unacceptably slow for me on an early (before 8) weekday round. The course itself was in good condition but greens had lots of unrepaired ball marks. The place just seemed understaffed and overwhelmed to properly set up and take care of the course and keep players in line and moving. I would return if it was emptier, but I wouldn't highly recommend it. And I didn't care much, but someone must have angered the greenskeeper bc the pin placements were insanely difficult, almost every hole was right on a ridge or at the extreme edge of the large greens.

Ok, very slow.

I'm not sure why the reviews are as high as they are. The course is mostly good with a couple of weird holes, but overall, I don't see anything great about the course. It was in good condition and has lots of forced carries, but for a younger single digit player, this wasn't an issue, but for older low ball hitters it could be very frustrating. The real problem was the pace of play. In the middle of a friday I was expecting to play fairly quickly, but our round took over 5 hrs to complete, which is pretty unacceptable. I still had a decent experience, but if I knew how long it was going to take to play I would have gone elsewhere. Also, the course is in a retirement community, so it seems its mostly older residents that play here which could have contributed to the pace of play.

I play the course from the tips, the #1 HC hole is not a driver off the T, you have to play it with a long iron up the left hand side before the hazard. It's a challenging hole that needs some planning.

I am a 12 handicap and agree with you. Although for example you needed a 260 yd drive with a fade to have a decent lie on the #1-handicap Par 5.

And where were the Rangers to move things along? Not one seen in 18 holes. Retirement community, indeed.

But excellent conditions and a huge bright spot was John, the starter, who gave me spot-on tips that came in quite handy during play and he had a deep knowledge of the course.. Between John and the mandatory "Yardage Book", a $6 pickup in the pro shop, you can do well if you pay attention, play the correct tee (I alternated between blues and whites, some of the whites were too short to really swing a clue) and manage the course.

I used my driver on only a few holes. The 5-wood is your friend on this course. The greens are in good shape, and very challenging.

Beginners

This course is entertaining, short, decently taken care of and good for a quick 9, but nothing more. Perfect place to take someone learning to play but I never find myself going back. Only one real driving hole which is a par 5 at around 400 yards...which isn't a real par 5. So again, good for beginners to learn the game without being punished by this hard game, but would not recommend to single digit handicappers.

Bad day

Tee time was 11:45 on a Wednesday, usually courses are empty at this time and you can fly through a nice midweek round. The lakes course had a tournament going on so everyone was forced onto the oaks course. It was way overcrowded and took over 2.5 hours to play the front 9. Every shot required a wait and due to the snail like pace I had to leave after 9. The greens were also in very poor shape with divots and brown portion and holes everywhere. I won't be back for a while after that experience. The only redeeming factor was I got a cheap tee time ($29), otherwise I would have been really upset.

Solid

The facilities are very well taken care of, the carts are solid, free range balls is a nice perk, nice putting green, very friendly and helpful staff. The course itself was very nice, well taken care of. The greens were close to perfect, which is what I care about most. Almost every hole is very playable with very little trouble (OB). The fairways are wide and generous and the greens are larger than most as well. It is pretty beginner friendly but still a fun play for the more accomplished player. Our foursome took our time and was never rushed, but the 4.5 hr round is slower than I am used to, but it didn't bother me as we weren't waiting around at any tees, which makes me wonder how it actually took that long to play. Overall, very solid course. I'll be back at some point.

Interesting

I can understand why a number of people would dislike this course. There is plenty of trouble on almost every hole, the tee shots are very tight and there is nowhere to miss, having said that, if you are looking for an interesting challenging golf course that is very different from others in the area, you might want to check this place out. Lots of cool elevation changes and very unique holes. If you are a beginner, this course will make you never want to play golf again, but if you have some game and can keep your tee shots in play, it is a pretty fun course. I played in the middle of the day on a weekday and finished in less than 3 hours which is pretty unheard of in this area. The course isn't super well maintained, but its not unacceptable and I've seen worse around this area. If you've got some game and don't want to spend much money, this may be a place worth checking out.

Nice playable course

The course was in great condition and though the parking lot was busy, the course itself was not. The mustang course is very playable with little trouble. I find this course one of my favorites as it can be "easy" if you are playing well and it gives you plenty of room for error if you are not. I don't think its worth the $100+ they charge but if you are patient and can find a deal, its one of my favorites in the area.

Easier if you've played here before

The course was in good condition, the greens were slightly faster than average, the staff was friendly, and the pace of play was acceptable for a busy time of the year. The only downside is that, if you have never played the course before, it is very hard to notice all of the different hazards and where you should be playing some of your shots. Almost every hole has water, so I lost a lot more balls than usual. I feel if I played it again it would be much more satisfying. The course is very playable and fun, but there are lots of surprise hazards with little to no information about where they are (distance and direction) until its too late. Each cart has a skycaddie type gps which is nice for distance to the pin, but provides little to no help visually. And of course, if you always hit the fairway and greens this won't be a problem. Better value than I expected for one of the cheapest available tee times on golfnow in the area.
