Nice course but not without flaws

The course looks very pretty, and has a satisfying and challenging layout. Long hitters be forewarned: trouble lurks near the end of every good drive. Don’t be afraid to tee off with an iron. Fairways tend to slope at the edges towards trouble as well.
Greens were in great shape. Bunkers, and there are a lot of them, were ok.
Biggest nit to pick would be the tee boxes, which have so much sand covering them that tees have trouble standing up and players lost their footing a few times hitting their drives.
Pace of play was fine.
Facilities were fine, but short of special.
The staff were very friendly.

Beautiful views, half-baked experience

Should preface this by saying that the day I played was not ideal for golf. It was about 40 deg and breezy when I teed off at @9:15 a.m. and it had rained most of the day before. Still, the course was in very good shape and I have no complaints about the physical conditions or playability. My criticism is mostly for off-course things. First, the day I played, access to the ballyhooed stone house was closed, and there was no drink cart in service. That meant no restrooms, no food, no refreshments of any kind were available after I teed off. Unacceptable for the $150 I paid to play there.
Second, there are no layout maps on the hole markers or the scorecard to help you know where to hit, what to aim for, etc. On a course with as many blind tee shots as this one (at least five), that will no doubt host a majority of first-timer-visitors, that's inexcusable.
Third, course yardage markers were scant and hard-to-find, even on the tee boxes.
Finally, maintenance crew people and vehicles were omnipresent, and they seemed to have little regard for players. Several times they would roll up on a vehicle just before I hit and start talking. On at least three tee boxes they continued with loading, banging, laughing and generally being loud even though I was just a few yards away trying to tee off. Again, unacceptable.
I will wrap up with this caveat: it was the off-season. Perhaps all of these things will be fixed when the weather warms up and more people are playing there. And even on an ugly day, this course is gorgeous, well-kept, and the views are incredible. That alone is almost worth the steep admission price despite all the other problems. Almost.

Solid challenge

If you like mixing in your long irons, this is the course for you. You may only use your driver 5-6 times. Course was in condition when I played in July.

Worth seeking out

Well-maintained course with friendly staff, though it has been under-staffed both times I’ve come here. Very good playing conditions with tee boxes, greens and fairways as good as you’ll find anywhere.
It’s a good course to play aggressively on; several short par-4s, manageable par-5s and nary a bunker in sight. Clubhouse was plain, no-frills affair but it did have cold beer, a tv, chairs and and snacks.
Low fees make it worth the effort to find.

Discipline off the tee pays off

If I had taken my driver out of my bag and snapped in two before the first hole, I probably would have shot 6 strokes lower. Narrow, tree-lined fairways, creeks and ponds abound on this otherwise pretty and well-maintained course.

Shotmakers' delight

This is not a course for folks who like to bomb drives in the general direction of the pin and then hope to hack out of trouble near the flag.
With nary a straight, open hole to be found, this course demands patience to score -- but you can score. It's a short track, with many holes than bend left or right (mostly right, which was tough for me since I hit a natural draw) that effectively take the driver out of your hands (or make you wish you had). You need to be able to hit your irons here, but if you can, the greens are well-kept and pretty easy to navigate. The course was in very good condition when I played it, but the construction going on on the freeway next to the course was a little distracting. Still, the construction also probably keeps enough people away so that the pace of play is a little faster than most, which was appreciated. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Hidden Gem

Champions Circle is a personal favorite of mine for two key reasons: 1) It is well-maintained; and 2) It is rarely crowded, so the pace of play is better than most in the DFW area.
Fairways and greens are very good, but sand traps need some work. Then again, if you stay out of them, you'll never know, right? There's no real signature hole here, but there are a lot of good, playable holes one right after another. Overall a very decent course.
