Legend Trail Golf Club
Played On 11/17/2019Nice layout, can't manage pace of play
Played many times in the past few years. Course layout is really good, and conditions are usually decent, price competitive. That's all good.
The bad is that the membership is elderly (and I'm elderly) and pace of play can be awful, with the added issue that the course management and rangers are more interested in explaining why the pace isn't so bad than actually doing anything to manage it.

Waited every shot front nine, ranger did nothing, then allowed a 5some to begin play ahead of us on #10 and then mishandled that. Similar problems the last time I played. This used to be an enjoyable place to play, but there are too many good courses in Scottsdale to put up with that nonsense.

Perfect example of a extremely badly designed course that wows golfers with views and artificial features. Best example: a concrete waterfall about 100 yards short of the 18th green - has absolutely nothing to do with playing the hole, isn't a backdrop to anything, isn't even a very enjoyable water feature. Everything about the course is artificial except (maybe) the original terrain. Even the views are spoiled by what look like strip mines and construction all around.
DrSchteeve,
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We are blessed to have golfers travel from all over the world to see and play Wolf Creek. Not sure how it is artificial when the golf course is carved out of the original terrain. The 200 ft elevation changes are real as well as the box canyons. You are correct though in that water in the desert is artificial. We think of Wolf Creek as a golfers wonderland.
