Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club
Played On 05/26/2018Avoid until the greens are repaired
This is a lovely course, well designed with many challenging holes and modest green fees. However, almost all of the greens have very large patches of dead grass and/or dirt, which make scoring well virtually impossible. It looks like a combination of the consequences of the winter weather and disease. The course needs to be closed and the greens completely overhauled before I would recommend that anyone play it.

Wonderful, inexpensive coursei in marvelous condition despite heavy rains that forced cart path-only play. Greens are exceptionally well designed and drained, and putt true. Highly recommend this course.
Maple Moor Golf Course
Played On 05/05/2016Fine Course
I discovered Maple Moor this season, and it's become my go-to weekday venue. It's in great shape, with the exception of a couple of greens that are bumpy and need tending. The layout is fairly straight-forward with not many risk-reward holes. Staff is great. The course is It's an easy, 35 minute ride from uptown Manhattan. GPS accuracy is excellent. My only gripe is that Westchester needs to join the 21st Century and switch over to electric carts. Not a long track and highly recommended for senior players who don't hit that long off the tees. No driving range, so be prepared to tee off cold.

Pound Ridge Golf Club
Played On 10/27/2014Dyabolical
For fans of Pete Dye, Pound Ridge does not disappoint, but be prepared to scramble . . . it's a tough course. Given the time of year, playing conditions were better than I expected. One word of caution: To give yourself any chance of reasonable scoring, IGNORE the posted recommendations on the 1st Tee on what tees to play and move up one tee box from what your handicap would normally dictate. Several of the holes that appear to be reachable in regulation, really aren't. It can be amusing to play with folks who are mid-handicappers and insist in playing off the Granite Tees and then discover that they can't get to many greens in regulation. But, given the difficulty of the course and what one pays to play . . . and this is not a cheap course most of the time, what's the point in not giving yourself a chance? Do yourself a favor and move up!
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

Wow. Everything that has been written or said about this tract doesn't do it justice. Walk w/caddy, play it forward and just soak it up. This is what golf is supposed to be.
