Pebble Brook Golf Course
Played On 03/27/2022Course needs a lot of help
The layout is fine, the holes are fun and there is variety. But over the last two years, this course has really been dying a slow death. The tee boxes could very well be solid rock under the grass and the greens and fairways need love. We've played this one multiple times but it looks like yesterday is our last adventure at Pebble Brook unless it gets the love it needs and deserves.
Twelve Stones Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2021This course needs serious attention
The first time we played this course, we caught reviews about the greens all being messed up and there being golf cart tracks running through them. We were pleasantly surprised to see that only the 18th green had the tracks but was clearly being handled, and the rest of the greens were in good shape. The rest of the course was in good shape. We have played several times in the year since, and the course has unfortunately gone downhill.
The course is difficult to begin with. Many of the holes are so challenging that it actually takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the play. I gotta give the course credit for really having hole diversity, though. Elevation changes, water hazards, bunkers, gentle dog legs... this course really brings it. The pace of play has never been awesome. Tee times are stacked pretty hard and is much tighter now than it was a year ago. There is a Marshall now, though, and a starter (and a cart girl!). That is all helpful to keep shenanigans at bay, but pace of play at Twelve Stones has always been due to over-stacked tee times. The fairways are rough and the rough is rougher. The greens on most of the holes are all now in pretty bad shape. I am happy to report, however, that the 18th green is healing up quite nicely. Probably the course's most redeeming quality is the incredible views. Some of these holes have the most breathtaking views of the area.
The carts are starting to show signs of abuse (golfers are kinda jerks, if you didn't know), but they are still some of the nicer carts in the area. Gas-powered, but they do have GPS with geo fences, USB charging ports, and a rain cover for the clubs. You can also stream your music over Bluetooth through the GPS screens if you didn't bring your own speaker.
The driving range is something, the putting greens are shut down for much-needed maintenance, but the chipping area is fantastic. The driving range is painful because they rotate between mats and areas of grass, but the areas of grass aren't grass at all. It's deep pockets in the sand. Mat days at the range are great, and it's actually pretty awesome how late they stay open and that they have lights.
The clubhouse is the greatest part of Twelve Stones. The pro shop is full of good stuff and the staff is always nice. The Sand Trap, though... I like to just go for a meal even when I'm not playing. The food is so wonderfully cheap (PLEASE please please don't change this!!!) and it's absolutely delicious. The Reuben is phenomenal, burger is amazing, the fries and wings are incredible, and try the fried golf balls. We've never been disappointed. They also have a full bar and the service is usually good. Don't go on an evening when they are hosting an event, though. We made the mistake of not checking once and got burned hard. We got sat on the patio out back (which is LOVELY) but then we got forgotten. Stuck it out for 45 minutes and then went somewhere else. Of the tons of times we've eaten there, though, one bad experience surely isn't the end of the world.
We for sure won't be back for another round anytime soon. We'll check reviews next summer and see if anyone comments on the greens being in better condition and but even then that's a big maybe. As it stands right now, it isn't worth the $40-50 they are currently charging. Even with repaired greens, the tee times being packed so tightly make it a hard sell. We're definitely coming back for that food though!

Played On 06/13/2021Incredible up and coming
So excited for the clubhouse to be finished. The course itself is very much on its way to 5 stars. I know it's a work in progress so I feel a 4 star rating is really unfair and I will definitely be back after the clubhouse is complete to give that fifth star. That being said... the course itself is in phenomenal shape. The fairways, greens, and tee boxes are all very well cared for. There are many bridges, almost all of which have recently been redone/refurbished and driving the cart over them is not scary or loud. There is a starter and he is amazing. Gave us the history of the course and some very good info about the layout and kept the pace of play very comfortable. The staff is all so friendly and wonderful. I think I read that the carts are new... they are in excellent shape, are electric, and have USB charging ports and rain covers for the clubs. There is also a cart girl, she comes around often, and she's super nice! The course is challenging without being dejecting. There are no real elevation changes but I honestly didn't even miss that.
I'm looking forward to seeing everything the course implements when it is all finished. Right now, there are no posted yardages, and some directional signs are missing to help you get to some of the trickier-to-find holes. I'm not sure if they'll add ball washers, club washers. sand buckets, or trash receptacles on any of the holes but currently none of those things are there. It really is a course very much in progress but it is coming along nicely and I'm really looking forward to my return trip! Definitely check this course out!
Barren River Lake State Resort Park Golf Course
Played On 05/16/2021Hidden gem in the woods
Absolutely beautiful, well kept course tucked away in the woods. Hidden gem for sure. The staff is wonderful, the course was really fun with the elevation change and hole diversity. Some of the holes are right on the lake. I can’t describe enough just how beautiful this course is and pictures do not do it justice. Definitely check this place out.
Nashboro Golf Club
Played On 01/03/2021Excellent potential
This course has the potential to be rated extremely well. There's a grill above the pro shop that smells AMAZING at the turn but we didn't visit this time - we will next time. The dude behind the counter is totally short with customers, but none of us minded at all. He checked us in, gave us our cart key, and got us on our way, what more is needed?
The course itself was fun and we'll definitely be back in the spring. This is the only course we've played this winter that let the greens die. Aside from being brown and dead, they were in otherwise good condition -- played well and were challenging enough. I actually like this course more than some of the expensive courses in the area. There is hole variation and elevation changes and I'm sure during the spring and summer it's absolutely beautiful. The hazards are well placed and there are just enough of them to be challenging for every level without taking the fun out of the game. The tee boxes weren't groomed at all but were still playable. I'll be very interested to see what this course looks like in a few months. We did all enjoy the pace of play reminders at many of the holes. There is nothing worse than getting caught behind a group of jerks who hit 4-5 balls off the box and then spend an hour looking for them, wait for each other, and hold up the entire day. I appreciate very much that pace of play is so important to Nashboro. We didn't see anyone come out and tell folks to move it along, and no one searched our bags, but we were ready for all of it based on reviews, so I would recommend others do the same.
My biggest complaint about the course, honestly, is the carts. They're completely unsafe. Ours didn't have brakes at all, and the one we decided not to get had bald tires. There are chunks missing from seats, they just aren't maintained-- much like the greens and tee boxes.
Don't go into this course thinking it's going to be amazing. Go into this course wanting a fun game and some food at the turn that probably tastes as good as it smells. And be careful in them carts!
Thank you for your review! We're glad that you enjoyed your experience with us. We're please that you enjoyed the challenge of our layout and that the pace of play was good. We appreciate your feedback on our conditions and carts. We will make sure to use your review to help us improve moving forward. Thank you again and we hope to have you back again soon!

This course is in EXCELLENT condition. The only green with any physical problem is the 18th. Every other green was as good as it gets. The fairways are enormous, each hole is challenging and unique, there are stunning views on most of them, there are great water features, the staff is wonderful, the carts are brand new with GPS, the driving range is great, I don’t have a single complaint about this place. I definitely need to get better but this is a great course. Give it another chance. The new owners have done a great job according to many of these other reviews that said this place is trash. It’s so not. We will play here again for sure.

We booked a tee time on Mother’s Day for early afternoon and showed up a little early to eat before we played. We live about an hour and a half away. It wasn’t busy, we were able to really take our time and fully enjoy our pregame meal, the course, the scenery, the whole experience. It was wonderful. Great way to spend Mother’s Day!
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve and are working diligently to improve the course. Thank you for playing Twelve Stones Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
