Drove by this course hundreds of times through the years, never paid attention to it until I found a reasonable price for a round online, wow! What a great surprise! A beautiful well maintained and challenging golf course.
I have played there six times now, can’t get enough of it!

Haven’t played here in a while, the course was in great shape, and the views, oh the views!
I had the wrong date for my booking, but Fred at the pro shop was very accommodating and helped me, very friendly and courteous.

Nice course, good value, but It needs big improvements on the bunkers, there is no sand at all, just dirt/mud.

Nice course, greens are in great shape, challenging but the sand traps need a lot of work, only two holes have real sand.

I have been playing Makalei for fifteen years, and I love the new changes. The greens are in excellent shape.

I like playing here, this time the pace of play was very slow!

I liked the course very much, first time that I play the North side, views are wonderful, and the course was in very good condition.
My only complaint is that the rough areas outside of the fairways is to high! You spend so much time looking for your ball if you fall in the above mentioned areas, and that slows down play considerably.
I will definitely play this course again, but, I hope that you can mow the rough a little lower.

I have been playing Makalei for about fourteen years, when I come to Kona for vacation. I usually get to play it three times each visit. This time the new changes for tee-off location it's to confusing. Besides, the pairing contributed to very slow play: foursome very slow players, followed by a single player playing two balls. I was single and I asked the twosome behind to join me to speed up play. After three and a half hour we were still at hole # 12. The price through Golf Now was $ 68.50 I don't think it was worth it!.

Good place to play, beautiful setting and a very challenging course. But, as many of the courses around San Diego, the "sand traps" are not really sand at all, more like dry dirt, it is hard to gauge your sand playing abilities because of the sorry conditions of the sand traps. Now I just pick my ball out if I fall in one of them, it is very unfair to play in them.

This is a fine course and also fun to play.
Don't be fooled by these Par 3's, they require accuracy and good putting in order to break par!
Good place to practice your short game.

The course was Pristine, Greens were slow and a little sandy but in great condition.

Can't wait to play it again, I love everything about this course!

Nice golf course, challenging in some holes, a little slow on the pace of play, that's the only inprovement I see.

The only drawback: very hard to find the ball on fairway, even more on the side where there are shadows because of the leaves. But, I don't think it is because of lack of maintenance, the Course is in great shape, I think it is Mother Nature and the time of year; the wind was blowing steady.

Play was to slow, they need a Marshall to speed up things.
