Conditions Need Significant Improvement

I last played this course in 2005 and was really looking forward to playing it again. Total disappointment. If you have played B Forest in Wellington this year, you will know what I mean. Only this course’s conditions are worse. There are so many tall clumps of crabgrass and weeds that on many of the tees you could not tell the fairway from the rough. Once we could not see a ball in the fairway until we drove right up on it because it was hiding behind some crabgrass. The greens were not any better. The greens were still very sandy even though they were aerated a month ago. Grass on many parts of the greens was sparse or nonexistent and mingled with more crabgrass and weeds. A little fertilizer and weed killer will go a long way. An employee told us the greens keeper had been fired and the new management company was not going to do anything significant to the course until after Oct 1, when the snowbirds return and rates go up. But I don’t think that will help. As bad as the conditions are, by the time there is significant improvement high season will be over and the snowbirds will be leaving. Just in time for the cycle to start over. I hope they can get their act together as I would like to play the course again. But for now, do not bother.

Great Once You Tee Off

I booked the tee time on line. As I walked up to the counter in the pro shop with the reservation in hand, I was greeted with “Oh, you booked on line” with no attempt to hide, for the lack of a better word, contempt. If the course does not like to share greens fees with booking services, don’t participate. You only risk a bad review and undesired word of mouth descriptions. I was early and hit a bucket and went over to the putting green 10 minutes before my tee time. They called three twosomes to the tee, then I was called and paired with a threesome, only for our foursome to be followed by two more twosomes. I do not believe this is a private course, but unless you are a regular do not expect any decent treatment by the employees. However, once I teed off, I enjoyed a challenging course that was in very good shape. Unfortunately, thunderstorms moved in and we were not able to complete the back nine. I would really like to go back, but the lack of staff friendliness will not let me. There are enough choices that you do not have to put up with rude employees.
