Long Run Golf Course
Played On 12/22/2014Greens good for winter time
Pegged it on one of the strange warm December days we get here in the Ohio valley. Muddy & soppy out but greens were surprisingly good & fairly quick. In & out in less than 3 hours. Long Run is one of the better layouts in the parks circuit.
Persimmon Ridge Golf Club
Played On 11/07/2014Serious test of golf
Played the back tees, cool & breezy day. Disappointed when I got to 1 green & found them verti-cut and pretty slow. Fairways are fairly narrow & trouble lurking on just about every hole. Need to be straight as a string off the tee & deadly accurate into greens. Giant undulations places a premium on being in the right quadrants to avoid 3 jacking. Course will yield some birdies, but pars are just as rewarding. Def a track you have to play over & over before you can actually score well. I'll be back next spring to take you down PR!
Sleepy Hollow Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2014No Fairways
Essentially a little pitch & putt with some decent holes. Not sure if it was because of last winter but the Bermuda was not mowed out for fairways. The rough & fairway were the same length, so bomb it down the middle & your always faced with a flyer for your 2nd. Greens were dreadfully slow as was the pace of play due to so many walkers & no one pairing up. Course could really use a starter to pair up groups on busy days. Course maybe worth 10 bucks to hoof it...wouldn't pay much more than that. Good track for players just learning the game.
Shalimar Pointe Golf Club
Played On 08/04/2014Leave big dog in the bag
Had monsoon blow through prior to teeing off. Had course to myself after all the play had came off during delay. Decent track, tee boxes & grass near boxes & next to greens were in rough shape or just non-existent. Most back tees will have to be redone. Played the tips & hit mostly 3 wood & 3 iron off tee. Many sharp doglegs & strategically placed trees. Fair layout though, be good to play it a second time.
Greens were ok considering how much moisture were on them. Very tough to read, either lot of break or no turn at all. Worth about 30 bucks not much more.
Tanglewood Golf Course
Played On 06/13/2014Tricked up & challenging , fair test
Played with the pro & some employees so I had some great local knowledge. 1st time playing the course you would be hard pressed to know where to hit your tee shot on most holes. Extreme sloping fairways and side hill lies to very solid conditioned putting surfaces. Can't beat it for the price & the shape it's in since new owners took over.
Eagle Creek Golf Course
Played On 8/13/2013Call ahead to see if tee sheet is busy..
Good lil track, worth the drive from Louisville. Blue tee
boxes are all very unlevel & will eventually all have to be redone. Tee boxes & fairways were pretty 'furry' as if they had not been mowed recently. Greens are always in above average shape for a public track that receives a good bit play. Played solo because I like to play fast and was stuck behind a twosome who was oblivious until I pleaded with them to let me through. Other than the poor etiquette on their part it was an enjoyable day. Would highly recommend checking tee sheet if playing as twosome or single due to some ppl not liking to let others play through.
Polo Fields Golf & Country Club, The
Played On 7/28/2013Leave Driver in the Bag
Polo Fields is a decent lil members only track, with times for sale online. If you can get lucky and get a good price it's worth it to play once. The tee boxes are a bit out of level, the fairways are in above average condition, and the greens are usually really good. Being private, pace of play is never really an issue, which is nice. The players out there who like to play bomb & gouge golf(myself included) I would look elsewhere. If you can move it out there 300+, you will be pulling driver maybe 4-5 times the entire round. More of a target golf course with emphasis on accuracy.
Mearns - East & South at Quail Chase Golf Club
Played On 6/08/2013Good local track
Quail Chase is good for a public course that receives ALOT of play. Tee boxes a bit un level. Fairways good, bare in a few spots. Greens roll pretty true, not overwhelmingly quick. 3 nines makes it accommodating for 200+ players. Suggest playing it early morning or late afternoon(if you can stand the heat). East/south are the best layouts IMO. Need to hit it real straight off most tees, 300+ drives usually can get you in trouble, so I play 3 wood off most par 4's.
Windswept Dunes Golf Course
Played On 4/5/2013Worth the drive..I guess
Drove up from Seagrove for an 8am starting time. Wind gusting 25+ & 50 deg. Dude behind the counter seemed very put out to be there, no good morning, nothing. Payed for a small bucket(should be free with greens fees) & proceeded to range. Even at 8 am approx 5-6 groups had gone off & the starter was clueless. Didn't pair up any twosomes & play was starting to stack up. Told him I was in a hurry & he let me start on 10..500 yard par 4! Made par and flew around the back, bout an hour fifteen. Played the championship tees at 7750, nice challenge, lotta long irons in. Problem is red tee boxes, kinda degrading making someone stretch it out that far & look at a red tee the whole time. Course was in ok shape- tee boxes un level, turf bare in quite a few spots & greens a lil furry. Prob rolling 8-9. Would like to play it next time in better shape & better weather. Recommend only if you check course conditions first.
