Country Oaks Golf Club
Played On 06/12/2015Great course
Awesome course! Terrific layout. Played this course the day after a high school tournament and the course was in great shape. A couple holes play long but overall it's challenging but fair. Great value for the money.
Quail Creek Country Club & Resort
Played On 06/25/2014This course is a Must Play!
This course is awesome! I noticed an earlier reviewer had noted that the fairways were in poor condition in April - well, no more - the Bermuda grass has come in and the fairways are thick and lush!
Some of you may know, this course used to host a PGA Tour event back in the '60's....It's an old-style, parkland course, and I like those types of courses.
Best greens I've played on all year. Smooth, and they roll true.
This of course has nothing to do with the golf course, but the grassy area in front of the clubhouse - the grass was so perfect, I refused to walk across it! Presentation matters in creating a first impression...
I am going to make Quail Creek a regular destination!
Idle Creek Golf Course
Played On 9/01/2013Never again!
Looking down the fairway from the first tee, I thought, wow! This looks like a nice course! Then I saw the first fairway, which was burned out, and the left rough, which was a thick patch of clover, and I thought, "I just paid $49 for this?" Hole layouts seemed to have been designed as a afterthought, to fit into the surrounding housing development. Could only hit driver once on the front nine. No idea where to hit it on the 7th hole. Back nine was rather boring and pedestrian, with the exception of the first par 5. Some holes were baked out, others were over-watered. Couldn't find the 12th tee! Coming off the 11th, the cart path ran right into the street. After driving around the neighborhood, I finally asked someone where the 12th was - it was about 3 blocks right of the 11th green. No sign or nothing! Restaurant/lounge wasn't open on Sunday, so no food/beverage either.
I was looking for a place to play in the Terre Haute area - this won't be it.
Chariot Run
Played On 8/4/2013Excellent golf course! Highly recommended! 5 stars!
Great golf course! Very scenic, and loved the mix of elevation changes! Nice combination of modern "faux-links style" holes, and a few tree-lined "parkland, old-school style" holes. Generous fairway width, but plenty of challenges, even for the better player - and very challenging for the Average Joe. Not the least of those challenges is the wind...
The bentgrass fairways and greens were for the most part in excellent shape - well maintained. The rough was, well, rough - but that's how it's supposed to be! I did notice, however, that not many players bothered to fill in their divots with the divot mix provided; not an indictment of the course and its staff - it's the player's responsibility to help take care of the course.
Pace of play was OK. Would've been perfect, had not the threesome ahead of us been playing from the blue tees when they didn't have the games for that set of tees. Can't fault the staff for that though - how do you enforce it, without rushing to snap judgments, or following a group around all day? I've worked in customer relations myself, and if ya pays yer money.....
The staff gave us the royal treatment upon our arrival. I couldn't have been more pleased.
Well worth the $$ and the 150-mile one-way trip from Hamilton County! I'll definitely play there again!
Well said, I was utterly lost as well finding 12. A little effort from the staff would also be nice.
