Red/White at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club
Played On 12/28/2020Nice course worth playing
Open layout. No water. Played in late December, after rain and cold/freezing temps. Greens had a soft velvet veneer, but were ice-rock solid underneath. But a great time to enjoy winter golf on a 45+deg day! I'll take those!

Good layout. Greens were slow, probably due to a long knap of the grass on them. The approaches were soggy, b/c of watering the greens in midday. (It was late June). This caused my approach shots to crater, rather than bounce onto the green. Vastly reduced services and amenities due to Coronavirus scare, but the course conditions were good. Nice course worth playing.

Played On 06/29/2020Decent play for a resort course
Good layout, fair conditions. Number nine hole was pretty bad, though. Greens rolled good, but a little slow. Decent value. Worth going back.

Played on a warm Winter day. Greens rolled true. The course was not too beat up, especially considering the windstorm that happened the week prior. Some trees were blown down, and some debris on the course, but didn't affect play. Looking forward to playing here during the season.

Played 11/13. Had an 8:30 tee time & hot deal, but delayed till 9:30 due to frost. Staff should have communicated to the growing group of golfers what the status and plan was to a much better degree. We ended up guessing then teeing off after seeing others tee off first. Then the marshal chased us down to tell us cart path only till it warmed up. This all could have gone smoother by announcing over the PA. Once that was behind us, the conditions were good, with the exception of a few sand traps. Greens were good. Best of the 4 courses there in the Front Royal area. Worth playing for sure. No water at all to contend with, so that is always a relief!
The Links Course at Shenandoah Valley
Played On 09/10/2016Best Course In Front Royal for 2016
Played here during long dry spell during late summer 2016. The greens were nice and soft, with no splotches. The tee boxes were fine, and the fairways were okay considering how long it has been dry. There weren't hardly any burned up spots on the fairways. Greens played predictably. Bunkers are fair at best, though. When I landed in the bunker, I raked a spot to put my ball on, then hit out. Otherwise, the sand was too hard/too thin. Good pace of play that day. It is the best of the 4 courses here in Front Royal for this year.

Played here in Aug 2016. Conditions were great. Greens were well manicured, and fast. Tee boxes in excellent shape, and fairways good too. Bunkers however, do not have the soft, white sand you'd come to expect. They are very hard to hit out of. Rough is very thick, but grass (not weeds). Course plays long. A few blind shots. The grill is nice and convenient. Pro shop staff were nice too. Recommend, esp during the week. Also a great driving range and practice facility too.
Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club
Played On 07/26/2016Usually our go-to course. What happened?
This course is our go-to course in the local area. It has been the best of the four that are in the local Front Royal area. However, the course has fallen into disrepair, to the point where I would avoid playing it until after all the renovations have been done, and the course conditions have come back to their normal, and excellent selves. I do look forward to next year or so (summer 2017) when I will go back. I cannot recommend this course until then. There are other courses in the vicinity that do not exhibit the absolutely poor conditions (now) that Blue Ridge Shadows does. I'm hoping they make it through this time period.
Hi Mdpeterso,

Played On 07/26/2016What happened?
Played in 4th week of July (hot!) but we rode. Got a hot deal for a cheap price. Me and my golfing buddy live local and in the past had considered this the premier course in the Front Royal, VA area. Not this year, for sure. The staff is friendly, the clubhouse is nice, the bar is good, but the conditions were absolutely, positively horrible. This is especially since my experience has been that BRS is the nicest course here. It is a real treat to play here when the conditions are nice. They're doing some bunker renovation, so only #17 & 18 bunkers are any good. All the others have weeds, etc growing. The greens are okay. The fairways have lots of bare spots, and none of the rough has any manicuring whatsoever. I truly hope this course is not in a "death spiral" and look forward to playing here next year. With the conditions as they are, I cannot recommend playing this course. There are much better options around in the immediate vicinity.
We are so sorry that your experience on our course did not meet your expectations. Please send us an email at blueridgeshadowsgc@gmail.com so we can further discuss your situation. Again, we apologize for your round and hope we can make it up to you.

Played here 2nd week of July 2016. Used a Hot Deal to get an excellent price on a really good course. (The Hot Deal was during the heat of the day, but that's okay by me!) Conditions were very good, greens were soft, tee boxes lush, and only a few brown spots in fairways. Driving range was bogus, in that for some reason, you couldn't drive your cart to the range! I thought real hard about that one, and couldn't understand why they would do this. So, we started off in a bad mood. (Quickly receded after we got on the course.) Also, being a resort course, the cart girl is around a lot. They do not allow coolers, which is a little problematic at 2pm in July! Played here twice while on vacation. Definitely worth playing.

Played On 07/12/2016Worth playing
Played here 1st week of July. Conditions were very good, no bare spots on any greens, fairways were good (w/only a few thin spots), tee boxes were in excellent shape. Bunkers, not so much. Sand was not fluffy or soft. Fairways were wide enough for me to work my left-to-right off the tee box. Water hazards were marked with yellow flags, easy to see. Check this course out when you are in the area, it is worth playing.
Thanks for the review! We're glad to hear you find our course to be worth playing. Hope to see you again soon!

Played On 07/11/2016Goat Ranch!
Played here in mid July. You know, when a golf course is on the decline, and they have cheap prices in order to generate some cash for hopeful improvements? Well, that describes this course. Facilities and the course itself have a 1970's vintage feel. On top of all that, it was a 5 hour round. Go somewhere else while you're on vacation.
