Above average public course

I play this course once per year when visiting my wife's family, as it's within 20 minutes of their house. It's a pretty good layout, and with tips over 7,200 yards it could be as tough as you want it to be. I've never had an issue with pace of play here, and i generally always play it on a Saturday morning. The only knock I'd give it from a playability standpoint is the greens are a little slow for my liking, and some of them are in worse shape than others, but I rationalize this as it's a public course that gets a ton of play. I paid $60 this last time I played, which is just on the cusp of being a little too much for a good public course. All told, I think it's a must play in the Harrisburg area, and it's in a convenient location.

Short, cheap course priced accordingly

After coming about once per year for a decade to stay with wife's family and golfing other courses, I finally decided to give this course a try this past weekend as I was by myself. I pretty much knew what I was getting myself into (cheap, easy course with a lot of weekend hacker types), but I was pleasantly surprised with a few things. For starters, and probably because of a lot of rain in June, the course was in pretty good shape, and even the rough in spots was actually real rough. It's not like the place was completely burned out. The greens were extremely slow (it was very hot the weekend I played, so I'm sure they did this to protect the greens), which was to be expected to some degree, and the par 5s were short and all reachable (two holes I bombed drives and had a wedge into one of them and 7 iron into another) but a couple things were salvageable here - 1) the par 3s were legit , and 2) i was floored by the relatively good pace of play. I was joined up with a twosome and we played in 4 hours. We could have played in about 3, but I was expecting a 5 hour slog with all the people in front of us. Pleasantly surprised.

All in all, this course is what it is. Not very challenging, but a fun little track to go out and go low on, for a cheap price and decent pace of play. I'd play it again in the right circumstances, and certainly I would on a day/evening if there wasn't a lot of people there and I could get through a quick 18

Good public course, but could be great

This course is what it is. I play it once a year with family that I visit there because it's realtively close to their house and conveniently located. Compared to a lot of the other courses I researched this course made a lot of sense. It's in decent shape, but not great. I would imagine it gets a ton of play, so this is to be expected of a public course. When i just recently played it, the weather was so brutally hot it kept a lot of people away, so we played this in 4 hours. I've played it before in 4.5 hours. But i've never had a terrible 5+ round experience. I think the layout of this course is great and there really aren't any bad holes - with possible exceptions being 14 and 16 (14 is just completely an unfair hole for a variety of reasons). We play from the blues and I find it to be a good challenge. I could see this course being tough on higher handicappers b/c of long carries to a few par 3s and some really tough holes (like 16). But all in all, this course is very good, and from a value standponit, I guess in today's day and age the price is spot on, although it feels slightly high ($59 on a weekend morning).

If you're staying in and around harrisburg and are a decent golfer, this should be one of the courses on your list. Challenging, solid track.
