Average to poor conditions but still a good value

Conditions are pretty poor. Greens are in rough shape and fairways are fairly spotty as well. Makes sense that this is a sub $50 weekend course, but I would expect it to be in better condition. Much worse than it was last year at this time. I will say, however, it is very much playable and a good value. Very accommodating staff and nice facilities. Hopefully conditions change for the better heading into the non-Canadian season.

every course is for sale when investors throw outrageous amounts of cash at the owners. golf in broward county will inevitably be gone, they just cant compete with pbcgolf and their courses that have no homes on them. j&d could turn this course around, even if they were to sell, it would take years for the county to re-zone this land

Look it up - the owners have put this up for sale to a developer who is building HOMES.

The golf course is just ok, (don't play the West 9), the golf course is hardly distance marked at all so bring your range finder, and the facilities are ancient. All this is tolerable for the price, but the staff there can be offensive, rude, and downright nasty. They cursed at me for bringing my daughter to the course, literally cursed, and made her about as unwelcome and unwanted as possible. I even complained to the Head Pro and got no response whatsoever. Customer service is non-existent, they act like it's your privilege to play there. Spend your money elsewhere, there's better golf courses with nice people near by.

great conditions

course is nicely kept. tee to green conditions were excellent. greens rolled ~10+. we played a practice round for a tournament in 2 weeks and were excited to come back. to play youll need to be a member, guest, stay at the resort with appropriate package, or sign up for a tournament there. a+ on the superintendent and crew.

no fore warning for aerated greens - aerated 8/14/17

nothing i hate more than being excited to play a course thats outside your normal rotation, pay full price, prime time saturday 8am, and walk up to the putting green to see freshly plugged, sandy greens. no mention on website of plugged greens, no mention in the proshop. someone did notice my disdain for this and offered me a raincheck which was courtestous once he realized no one told me ahead of time.

besides the fact of being very salty about the aerated greens, course was in amazon condition. will be back to play it with recovered greens. building a crazy new clubhouse which looks to be a fantastic structure!

Bogus Players Assistant

Conditions are good with this course, its a shame the property is at the center of an outrageous bid war for the land. The problem is with the management. Pace of play was unacceptable on a Saturday afternoon. Showed up with a half full parking lot so expected to finish 18 holes starting at 3:30 and finishing by 7:30. Foursum in front of us and 2, twosums behind us. Multiple times we were telling the ranger to make the group in front move along or even split and he was either deaf or ignored us. He was usually always around because there was probably 4 groups on the whole course and we were all on 2 holes the whole back nine. He was observing everything that was happening but wasn't doing anything about it. I hope for the sake of this persons ethics that the ranger job is a volunteer position, or he's just completely untrained on how to perform his job duties. Once we got to the 18th tee, he closed the course due to the sign on his cart that said course closes at 7:40 and I guess a pre-determined time which they want the carts returned. He would not let us play down the 18th even after pleading with him. Meanwhile, still plenty of light left to play. He didn't do his job while his customers were trying to finish a round behind a slow foursum and encouraging him to move play along. But when it was time for him to clock out, he had no problem closing the course. Even the manager looking guy at the club house wouldnt let us walk back and walk the last hole so we could at least record a score. I get they want the carts back, but even the manager couldnt do the right thing. Two people with no concept of customer satisfaction or hospitality. So salty about it which means I wont be back before it gets sold, unless I buy it and turn it into Palm Beach Nationals sister course. I wish I had more money so I could literally buy this course and snatch it from Lennar or Toll Brothers or whoever is trying to buy it and hire Paradigm to manage it and I could save a great track in prime time Boca.... Shame. Golf investors take note.

grounds keepers in strike

pros:
a+ staff, everyone friendly, looks very well run in the front of the house. they had breakfast setup on a saturday morning which may or may not have been for me, but if it was, it was great. snagged a powered donut! would have feasted some more but i snagged that donut like it wasnt mine. lol!

cons:
the grounds keeping staff is on strike... and the proshop are not changing their prices to reflect this. maybe i paid more for friendlier people and free breakfast which, in retrospect, may have been worth it, but i want to play on good conditions because im a snob. greens were very patchy and not consistent. fairways were not well kept, and the tee boxes were fine from what i remember. layout sucks with a ton of water but it is what it is and the ratings and slope reflect that. wind was up so i had 2 water balls thats crushed my round and knocked me back to an 83.

bottomline:
give it a few months before you go, maybe they will improve...

great dick wilson course

I really enjoy playing WPB, and the elevation changes are great and can make some of those 430+ holes into the wind and uphill just brutal! i would rather play this course 20 times before park ridge, the other south florida course with elevation change. all of the greens are elevated, very true to designer dick wilson, even some blind shots from certain sides of the fairways. the waste areas, which i like better than water for obvious reasons, can be frustrating if you end up in a deep foot print. great value for this course in the winter and i would recommend it to anyone.

shot my personal best*

*but on a par 70

Course is on the intracoastal so its got nice scenery. played one hole and then the rain and wind. so uncool. tee boxes are dismal but the course has good greens and thats really all you need to play golf. layout is bizarre mainly when you have to cross through the middle of hole 17... staff is friendly and their saturday morning tee time is $30 when other courses are already up to $50. great value and i will be back, shot a 76 and now the scorecard is on my fridge!

Consistently in good shape

Greens rolled quickly and smoothly. Fairways and tee boxes are in decent shape. Back tees are just ok as I'm sure they don't see that much action but I'd like to see them a little more trim. No qualms with anything from my round today. Some of the bermuda rough can be tough to get out of so stay in the short grass.

Quick Round - Aerated May 11th, recovering nicely

Proshop said they aerated May 11th and the greens played nicely a week later. They were a little hairy and slow but they played consistent and smoothly. Tee boxes were plugged as well so the course will only get better in the coming days/weeks. Thank you Michael and your staff for your consistent course. No one out there on a Saturday afternoon wave so we played quickly and was able to really pick up the pace after thunder was moving in closer after the turn which was awesome. Also, the last two or three rounds Ive played there, theyve sent us off the back so i'll assume that's a normal thing now. Cart girl made several passes on a mostly deserted course which is great. Finished bogey, double to wreck my weekend.

golfers, rake the bunkers!

had a 12:30 eagle/osprey tee time yesterday and every trap (that was in play) was absolutely horrendous. it was like every single player landed in it and, walked all over the place and didn't rake it afterwards. This behavior is not acceptable from my fellow golfers, so please treat your golf courses like it's your own. other than that, course was in good shape, greens were true and fast. pace of play was terrible like every other course but that was to be expected. staff was great, had a players assistant tell us where to see a gator which was great! i'll be back

another great value course for winter

this course isn't the greatest course, but it is a great value for the winter season. got a hot deal for under $30 and it was definitely worth it. greens were great and rolled nice and quick. fairways were okay. no water on this course = you can play a whole round without losing a ball! i might have been in about 12 bunkers today so make sure your bunker game is on point before visiting. great layout. as usual, 18 holes took 4.5 hours but that is expected this time of year. i'll be back soon!

good value - white tees dont add up

poured immediately after we finished the first hole, and after a crack of lightning, everyone basically left, and we stuck it out and the course was wide open. had one twosome up our butts but they didnt speak a lick of english and couldnt understand "would you like to play through" so we said fine, and just played in front of them because they just didnt get it. this course is in pretty poor shape compared to others, but at ~$15 (hotdeal) on the weekend, i wasn't really expecting much. the greens rolled pretty nicely (minus the standing water on 2 because of the rain), but they were not that appealing to the eye. in fact they were down right ugly looking, which fooled me with the speed pretty much all day. i see plenty of commercials on tv advertising this place, and that needs to stop immediately and that tv money should be put into the course. also, their website promotes walk-in rates, which only can overbook things, clog up the course, make rounds 5+ hours, and irritate people, which i can't agree with. and one final gripe, their yardages dont ad up on the card (which is unacceptable). the front 9 white tees is 2807, and back 9 is 3191, which clearly ads up to 5998, and the card says it's 6201! the black tees dont add up either but its only a few yards instead of 200. i would play this course again for the same price, but not for anything higher than that. if you can get a sub $20 round, then it's definitely worth a visit.

Great

This is a short but tricky little course. The course is coming right along and the greens are rolling very nicely. They still have a good amount of work to do, especially around the edges, but it has come a long way and it is certainly worth a visit. They have fixed the greens and fairways and thats the most important. The value was outstanding! A manager or maybe it was the superintendent asked us our opinion of the course and we all agreed it was playing nicely. 6 par 5's, 6 par 4's, and 6 par 3's, not something you see/play every day.

Course was aerated and I hate sandy plugged greens. Other than that, course was amazing. The gps carts really gets this course to the next quality course tier. i played on saturday 8am and was done by noon so that was good, and i bet after another week or so their greens will be back to smooth.

best public course in florida

I don't know what it is about that seashore paspalum, but it's just so good, so green, so smooth. this course should be the number 1 course in the southeast. This is the course I hold every other course to. it's a little tight and easy to lose your ball in the brush, but they have done a good job mashing 3 nines in a small area. I snuck 18 holes in today during the 1pm football openers so the course was pretty empty, so played 18 holes in 3 hours which was refreshing, and finished maybe 5 minutes before a good sized storm that threatened the whole back nine. my one gripe with this place is the older guys in the pro shop are often not very customer oriented, aka lacking customer service skills. everyone else i've ever interacted with is friendly. course was aerated 4 weeks ago and they are already rolling very nicely, probably close to 10.

Wish I knew it was aerated...

Usually Golfnow and the course communicate with each other so we know if it's aerated. I was pretty irritated by the time I got to the first green to see it was a giant sand box. I understand this needs to be done to keep them in good shape, but I would have love to known before hand. Golfnow usually has the icon if they are, but they don't know unless the course tells them. No one told me in the clubhouse either... I would have played a different course if I knew. Other than that, no one was out there, so our 4some played in 3 hours and the rest of the course was in great shape. Had 5, maybe 6 3putts and shot an 82. This makes me even more mad since I rarely break 80.

under repair

I haven't played Delray in a few months, and I was completely dumbfounded by the condition of the course and it explained my $12 tee time. After the round I spoke to the cart attendant briefly about what happened. He said they are on to their 3rd superintendant that is now trying to fix the problems the last two had left. He said that it was worse and it has come a long way in weeks past, which is also shocking. I understand sometimes things have to get worse to get better but I would steer clear until they can turn around the tee boxes at least. All 18 were poor. I give the course a current rating of 2 stars instead of 1 because the course is apparently getting better. I would give every player a 20% off their next tee time coupon to show their appreciation for their customers and understanding the conditions before they reach the first tee.

Awesome, Definitely going back

First time playing here and I really enjoyed it. Enjoyed the layout and especially the elevation! Greens were rolling nicely and the course is in excellent shape. We played in 3 hours because it was Easter Sunday but it was so enjoyable to not have to wait on every shot! The only thing I did not like was the 13th tee box (blue tees), it aims you way left. This would be an easy and relatively cheap fix for the county to make. I can't believe it's taken me this long to play here, but I'll definitely be back real soon!
