Island Pointe Golf Club

Great Course layout. Really good shape! Greens are on the slow side but understandable for summer heat. The bunkers are in need of some more sand. The cart path's are particularly rough from 16 to 17 tee box. Over all you can't beat this course for the money.
Egwani Farms Golf Course

Course is in very good condition! Greens as good as I've seen them. Bent grass greens are in excellent condition, smooth and fast (estimate 10.5-11 in stimpmeter). Little on the firm side as they will hold a high shot but tricky chipping and pitching around the greens. For the money $25(Golfnow), one of the best values in East Tennessee. From what the staff in the pro shop said they will be closing the course down in June/July and replacing the current greens with champions Bermuda and repairing some of the cart paths(they were rough in places). Still trying to figure out what they can do with number 11 as it's a poorly designed 5par. 11 would make a terrific 3par or very interesting 4par, but with the current design and tree configuration it's and ill suited 5par IMO. Overall, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating.
Sevierville Golf Club - Highlands Course

What a welcomed change of course design and style as compared to the River Course. Overall excellent condition, terrific greens, fast but fair, more traditional, resort design. Fair amount of water to be taken into account. Nice mix of risk/reward holes. 10 and 11 are ho-hum holes. used to be a 5par, 11 green being the original green. Overall, great course, value, layout. One of the best in East Tennessee.
Island Pointe Golf Club
Played On 06/01/2014One of the Gems of East Tennessee
This is one of East Tennessee's treasures for sure. It's always been one of my favorites and they've done a nice job with the new greens(18months ago). Tough to beat the unique layout and given how really difficult this past winter has been to many area courses, River Island is in remarkable shape. Tip of the hat to the super and staff there. Need to have the turn shack opened longer in the summer and/or have a beverage/snack cart rounding. Just an outstanding golf course, lots of fun to play!
Avalon Country Club
Played On 04/13/2014Wow that was disappointing
Wow! is a word I would use to describe my experience at Avalon on Sunday 4-13-14.
The practice tee for visitors is like visiting the moon. Nothing but sand, I thought about setting up a volley ball net to see if my group wanted to play a quick game of beach volleyball. No takers though. The members practice area looked OK but we were told that only members could practice there. Wow!
The fairways are the worst I've ever seen since I've been playing Avalon-even for this time of the year, sparse hard, unacceptable-Wow! I was told the greens were punched some 5 weeks ago, slow, very sparse in places, very bumpy-Plinko anyone? Consider enforcing automatic 2 put rule. If you confidence is a little shaky on the putting greens, you'll need to see a shrink after putting those greens-Wow!
Bunkers-terribly maintained, lots of rocks, not good-Wow!
Overall, very disappointed. Though not my favorite course in ET, one that's convenient and has a decent layout. Course is in need of some serious maintenance and soon. No way they can charge premium greens fees for a course in this condition. Too many alternatives in much better shape.
In a word...Wow!
Sevierville Golf Club - River Course
Played On 03/30/2014Best Public course in East TN
Sevierville GC-River Course is a gem! Right now the greens are perfect-tour quality. Little on the soggy side as the layout lends itself to collect water. Love the redesign as they incorporated new holes with some of the original holes from the old Eagles Landing. Front side is really challenging and 17 and 18 are solid finishing holes. The only draw back is it's on the busy side with traffic and helicopters flying around. Don't let that deter you from enjoying one of if not the best public course in East Tennessee! This is a $75-90 value course anywhere else, under $40 which is what you can often play it for is a super deal!
WindRiver Golf Course
Played On 03/09/2014Tons of potential
This is the first time I've been back to Wind River FKA Rarity Pointe since they changed their name a year or so ago. Landed a good deal of GolfNow for $26/player. Really good value. Course is in good shape for this time of year. Greens exceptional, best I've played on this year. Punching greens on Monday March 10th however. Really a nice course, need to keep their rates on the low side for the next couple of years until they can get some traction and generate some revenue. Although I think the layout is better than either of aforementioned courses, driving distance a bit on the long side. Don't think about moving your rates to that of Willow or Avalon. Needs to be in that $40-45 price range even on weekends for it to continue to be a realistic choice for my group. Overall, glad it's still here, very good value, will return
