Makalei Golf Club
Played On 02/11/2023Condition of the Course and Grounds
Based on the normal prices of the course, I was expecting it to be in much better shape. The parking lot and heavy equipment made it look shabby. These is no restaurant, and the pro shop is being run out of a trailer. There were no identifiable yardage markers in any of the fairways. There were weeds on the edges of greens and fairways and it felt like I was playing in a pasture.
The positive was that the staff were friendly and helpful. I just wish I was informed about the conditions when I called the course prior to arrival. I only had one opportunity to play golf in Kona. If I were informed about the conditions, and if the description of the course online was more accurate, I would not have booked the time. I feel as though I missed out on the Kona Hawaii golf experience.

The course was in great shape. It is so much improved from years past. Located on a flood plain, it requires lots of love from the superintendent and greens crew. They sure did provide it, well done! It was a nice quiet day with pleasant people. The restaurant staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The Pro Shop staff were every bit the same. Thank you for a great day.
Druids Glen
Played On 7/29/2013Great features, needs better maintenance
This is a great layout with character and each hole is unique. The fairways were over watered in many spots, and the areas in front of ponds and bunkers are filled with dandylions and blackberry bushes. In my opinion, the fairways need to be more selectivly watered to minimize dead spots, but not to get to the point of being soggy, spongy and hard to hit off of. They need to be a harder surface. More watering needs to be done in areas that were once filled with bull rush, to minimize the growth of the dandylions and other invasive plant species. It is a great course though, just better, more selective maintenance is needed.
