Old Trail Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2019Not cheap; worth playing...
Old Trail is a beautiful golf course at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains. With Zosia grass fairways, it is always a pleasure to play. As of 5/19/19 the course is in perfect condition with the greens rolling true and the rough lush but fair.
The Highlands Golf Club at Fisher Mountain
Played On 06/18/2016Hidden Gem
This is an exceptional course hidden in the mountains of West Virginia. I was amazed at the course conditions, as they were excellent. The greens were moderately fast with some having significant undulations. I was able to book a time as a single and ended up playing alone. However, on a Saturday I only encountered two groups who quickly allowed me to play through. There are a few blind shots, and driver is not required on all par 4s for longer hitters. There are not a lot of directional signs and yardage markers are hard to come by. All that said, if you have a chance to play this course, don't pass it up! The lady in the pro shop was not very friendly, and I played so fast I didn't stop in the snack bar. Didn't see a refreshment cart or ranger during the round.
Heritage Oaks Golf Course

This course has a variety of holes that require some strategy off the tee. Even though the course is not long, choosing the right club and then placing your tee shot on the correct side of the fairway is critical in order to score well. There is a free course guide available in the pro shop that is worth picking up. The staff were very friendly as were the individuals I was paired up with. The course is walkable, although there is distance between some greens and the next tee.
