Whittle Springs Golf Course
Played On 03/27/2016No longer playable
A very nice layout that I have enjoyed playing for the last several years. Fairly short but with enough hills and slopes to be challenging. Greens in very good condition for this time of year, although a couple are too fast and the ball will just keep rolling downhill and right off the green. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, there is virtually no grass on the fairways and tees. I understand the grass may not have started growing yet this spring, but there is not even dormant grass under your ball anywhere on the fairways. You're playing off the mud all day. If your ball starts rolling down a hill, you may never see it again. So many areas are completely bare that I don't see any way they could possibly fill in when the grass does start growing. As is, the course shouldn't even be open.
Three Ridges Golf Course
Played On 05/08/2014Very scenic, but not worth the money.
Greens and fairways are in pretty good condition, and the course layout is challenging enough with plenty of hills and trees. Several totally blind tee shots, but you get clear looks at the greens. The scenery is great, but their prices are way to high for a muni course.
We've played this course 3 or 4 times, but we won't be back. The pace of play always seems to be a big problem. This last time they had a twilight rate beginning at 4:00 pm, so we made reservations for our twosome for after four o'clock. We arrived at the desk at eight minutes to four and were told we'd be best to pay full price and go out right away because a league for young kids was starting at four. That's what we did, but by the third hole we found that the kids had already started and they were agonizingly slow. I'm very much in favor of kids playing golf, but this group had parents and coaches following them around, and apparently none of them taught the kids anything about golf etiquette. Wandering back and forth across the fairways, getting instructions from their coaches, hunting for lost balls, and they never waved anyone through.
The pace is always slow here, but a front nine of over 3 hours at excessively high prices means we will not play here again. I cannot recommend this course to anyone.
Thank you for your comments. We always appreciate the feedback from our customers. Our fairways and tees have not come out of dormancy yet. They are getting better each day. We are positive they will be the best they have ever been this season. We sprigged and sodded most of our fairways in 2015, as well as putting in a fertilization and weed prevention program that will positively effect our course conditions.
