Arrowhead Golf Club
Played On 9/24/2012Scenic, Fun Course - Pretty Darn Good Conditions!
"Wow" is the word that comes to mind reminiscing back at my round at Arrowhead. Really. Some amazing views, and the air was so crisp and inviting. The course was well conditioned, and the greens rolling pleasantly well (if fast greens are to your liking that is.) A couple of mickey mouse holes, but, given the scenery, even those are palatable.
A couple of knocks:
1. Be prepared for a longish (bordering on unacceptably) long round. I played on a Monday (not a holiday or anything), and it still took north of 5.25 hours, which is unacceptable. If the beauty of the surroundings hadn't kidnapped my soul, I would have walked off after 13 or 14.
2. The cart staging personnel were markedly inattentive (but, in the grand scheme, who really cares... I'm there for the golf.)
Tiffany Greens Golf Club
Played On 9/23/2012Decent Course, but Challenging
Pretty good course overall - the conditions were, on the whole, decent (there were some stressed out areas though, which is understanding given the trying summer the region went through).
The one thing that stuck in my craw, however, was the first hole, which, in my humble opinion, is a tricked out, unnecessarily tough opening hole. Friendly people though. And, with the savings I enjoyed through GolfNow, it was even sweeter!
Maryland National Golf Club
Played On 9/21/2012Difficult But Enjoyable
First and foremost, fun track to play. But, it does require some semblance of a game, otherwise you may be in for a long (and possibly frustrating) round. Some blind shots, but, all-in-all, a pretty fair and enjoyable course. In-cart GPS is a big plus.
University of Maryland Golf Course
Played On 1/1/1900Tough conditions - decent layout
Preface this review by saying it's winter golf - but the course is in VERY rough shape (a far cry from what it was when it hosted a Nationwide Tour event several years ago). Other area courses (like Northwest in Silver Spring) are able to keep conditions decent even in the dead of winter, so no excuse U of M.
Layout is pretty fun though. It has all the length you can handle.
Decent overall.
