Great Drive to a great course

I can sum up this round in one word; outstanding.

Greens; outstanding, they are in great shape and lots of golfers were fixing their ball marks.
Pace of play: outstanding. I teed off at 3pm, and I was told by a regular twosome that is the time to come out and play.
Sites; outstanding. There were lots of holes that caught my eye; tree lined, open fairways. The 13th has a small creek running by the tee box. The 18th hole is one of the nicest finishing holes I’ve seen in a long time.

And getting to the course requires a nice drive through Sonoma wine country.

Enjoy the round!

Road Trip Elkhorn

The other night while looking for places to play I decided to step out from my local solano county golf course circle for change of sceneory... so off to Stockton I went and when I arrived at Elkhorn I was happy I took the drive.

The atttentant in the pro shop was very nice, the 4 dollar warm up bucket was great, and the all grass driving range was good too. How ever you can't hit driver at the range, which was ok wirh me.

The course was in great shape from tee boxes, fareways, and greens. It's a sneaky hard course, it can lull you into "safe" misses and when you walk up to the green you relize that the green is protected by water. Plus you'll notice that the fairways look wide open until you roll up and look for your ball and see that the rough pinches into the fairway at about 175 yards and your now in the rough. At that point you learn that this more of a target course va a grip it and rip it course.

I will come back out and play Elkhorn again and I suggest you all give it a try as well.

Discovered my new favorite course

After 25 years of playing golf I took my very first set of lessons here, and for some reason it took me over a year to play a round here. I will be back soon.

You won't be bored with the sites; I think I took a picture of every par three and the par 5's look great as well. Once you put away your camera and considerate on golf you do have to be careful.

You can't just grip it and ripe it, and I found that out on number two. After I putted out with a generous 8...thanks Glen! I decided to shorten my game a bit and pick my moments to pull out the driver. The fairways are narrow and hazards are all around, but if you pick your spots the course will reward you with some great approach shots.

The greens are in great shape, I saw no real issue with the fairways, but some of the tee boxes where a bit worn. Luckily you are only on the tee box for a short time. The driving range is a bit funky, but you will get your swings in. The practice green is real nice, and I saw an area for chipping and sand work, but didn't get to try them out.

Great round, Great place, and if you are looking for some lessons try Ryan but don't wait a year to play here.

Good deal Good course

So....I think this course is getting a bad rap from reviewers. I found a good deal through GolfNow and decided to give this "awful" course a try to see what all the fuss was about.

My tee time was at 6:54am, first one out. I was paired up with two guys who play here all the time and they proved to be great guides through out my round! We teed off on time, which was about 15 minutes before sunrise, perfect timing.

Pace of play was great. We set the tone for the rest of the players (you're welcome :))and got around the course in just under 4 hours. It could have been faster but we felt no need to rush though this round.
The condition of the course was fine. Sure some of the fairways were less then perfect, brown spots, and some areas where torn up. These areas made up about 10 to 15 percent of the course. Most of the course is in fair shape and it did not ruin my round at all. I'm about a 17 HCP and and yes like the rest of us I'm working on lowering my scores, and I can say with out a doubt this course did not prevent me from shooting a low score. This course like my game can use a little work. But as we all know a few tweaks to our swing or stance makes a big difference I can say the same for the course. If a few small tweaks are made; some drainage repairs, Tee box, and greens improvements this track will shine once again.

Good round with some great views

I decided to venture out about a 1/2 hour from home to play today. After a nice drive along the Delta I arrived at the course were I was met by two polite attentants in the pro shop. They set me up with my cart and a bucket. Good news, you hit off grass at the range. After I warmed up I headed over to the starter and met the threesome I was joining for the day. These guys play here often and offered plenty of course management suggestions through out the round (thanks Jay!!)

The starter was great. It was very crowded today and he kept it light and calm on the first tee and most importantly he kept the line moving.

The course is in great shape. The holes offered plenty of variety, challenges, and risk reward. Bottom-line; some holes you can just rip it and others require some finesse.

Over all it was a good day of golf that I got to share with a good threesome. Oh, and if you head to Shadow Lake in the morning hit up Willy's Bagels for breakfast, it's right next to the course.

Good to see you again

It's been about 10 years since I played here and at that time I was not overly impressed with the staff or the course condistions. For years I would drive past the course noticing slight improvements, the driving range, which I frequent has improved as well so I decided to give Blue Rock Springs (West)another try.

When I entered the pro shop I was made to feel welcome and part of the club. I was given a choice to head straight out or wait for my tee time. I choose to hit a small bucket before going out. After the bucket I checked back in and was sent out a little early.

The course is in great shape. The tee boxes are lush and soft, the fairways are well groomed, and the greens are well maintained. The pace of play was very good for a Saturday afternoon; 3.5 hours for 18 holes! My only complained goes to the golfers who are not fixing their ball marks on the green.

I wiould recommend Blue Rock Spring West to any golfer at any skill level. Enjoy your round

Long Time No See

It's been awhile since I've played this course, not because of any failings on the course, I just have not gone in that direction to play. I will now make it a goal to play here at least three more time this season. It's in great shape, tee times are easy to get, and I need to try to concurred the 11th hole! Each hole is very inviting and your greens in regulations percent will go up mostly because the greens are huge! Don't be discouraged if you three put here.

Have fun

First round of the season

I booked a tee time here as a single. The staff treated me as if I were a member. They loaded my clubs on the car, set me up with complementary bucket of balls, and I wasn't paired up with anyone, which worked for me as this was my first time out for the season. I was getting ready to head out a little early when a group of three showed up and invited me to play along with them. It was great.

The course is in great shape with it's fair share of challenges. The third hole is a great short 131 to the grew, you have to clear water in front and avoid the woods behind the green. I dropped my first shot into the water...may I suggest a lofted 7 iron :). The seventh hole is the toughest on the course. Mostly because it has a very tight fairwy, aim for the 150 marker!

Have fun on this very nice 9 hole track.

Good round

I was in the area for a baseball game in Marysville and wanted to get a round in after the game. I got to the course around 4PM.and was very pleased with what I found. It's sort of a golf oasis dropped in the middle of thousands of acres of farm land. The fairways are tree lined and there is a river bed that runs througout the course (it was dry, perhaps due to the drought?)

Now, if your expecting a pebble beach like golf course that's not what you're going to find. The fairways are spotty and some of the tee boxes needed work. But if you're coming out to play a low stress round of golf, work out some swing adjustments, and have a nice afternoon round I recommend this course.
