Blackberry Oaks Golf Club

I've played this course many times before and have always enjoyed playing here. The layout is great, the staff is friendly and it's relatively close to home. With the large amount of rain we've received these last several weeks, the course has dried well, but there's quite a bit of maintenance going on around the course. For the most part, this doesn't encroach upon the normal area of play. The tenth hole is shortened considerably to a sub-hundred yard par three and you have to drive through the parking area to get to the tee box. Other than that, everything is fine and normal. I can't wait to see the finished result.

Everything about this place is great except today. We got stuck behind a college girls tournament, forcing us to skip one hole after 5 hours of play. The worst part was our tee off was over an hour later than the last tourney group.

I will agree with what the starter told us; it is the gem of the western suburbs. The course is apart of a hotel and you can get special rates when you book with them. The course has something like 6 par 3's but it doesn't lessen the quality of the course. For the middle of summer, the course was well kempt and beautiful. The holes and fairways are close together, but the landscape separates them well and the electric carts are nice and quiet. The tin cup bar is well stocked and the staff if friendly and the proshop has everything you'd need and more. If you happen to be around the area, especially if you're staying at the hotel, go play a round. You won't be disappointed.

Played On 06/16/2016I will be comin back for the course, not the starter
Let me get this out of the way first. The starter rushed us from the moment we walked in. We were between 10 and 15 minutes early to get our cart and bags set up and he was rushing us out the door and riding us the entire time because the other half of the booked foursome was already there. He said it was a busy day, but it truly wasn't busy.
Aside from the grump up front, the course is beautiful and well groomed. The greens were a bit rough on some holes but it didn't alter play at all. There are some very beautiful holes and some can be very challenging, but the course isn't overly difficult.
One thing I would recommend is if you don't usually walk courses, take a cart. Even driving from one hole to the other can be a cruise. I could only imagine how long the day would be if you walked it in the hot summer sunshine.
Overall, the course was so great and I had such a fun time playing it that my friend and I totally forgot about the hassle with the starter.

Played On 05/30/2016Memorial Day Out
The course seemed to be busy, but my friend who plays there says that the course can be pretty packed some days regardless of it being Memorial Day. The course was pretty straight for the most part, but we seemed to always be waiting for the folks in front of us and pushed by the ones behind. After about 13 holes the ranger finally came by and moved some players to the red course to hustle the pace of play.
Settler's Hill Golf Course

There is definitely a lot of hills on this course and with the wind on the day I played, the challenge was great. The layout of a few holes were wonderful and the others were good as well. Definitely worth a try.
Hi Peter,
Thanks for the great review! The wind definitely can make the course quite challenging, but we are glad to see you were up for the challenge!
First off, we would like to apologize for your experience while checking in. We never want to rush anyone out to the course and have you start your round on a bad note. We are happy though to see that you enjoyed the course and did not let this ruin your day. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make it up to you!
