Pennsauken Country Club
Played On 12/13/2020Solid municipal golf
Pennsauken is a relatively short course played on two sides of a highway. They have a good mix of short, mid length and long par fours, the par fives are on the short side and most can be reached in two with a good drive. A good layout that will let you use all the clubs in your bag. The bunkers have a good sand in them. The greens were slow but roll true. The distance between tee boxes makes it easy to walk. There is no driving range. There is an adequate pitching and putting area. The staff is friendly and helpful. They do have Rangers out on the course to keep pace of play. We played the course in four hours. There was a beverage cart making the rounds and a restaurant for after the round, though with Covid I’m not sure whether it was open.
Skippack Golf Course
Played On 11/15/2020Upgrade from the past
This is an old school course. It’s been around for a while,. It’s a shorter course and very walkable course. They had a major upgrade a few years ago where they put in irrigation and reworked the bunkers. It’s in good shape Tee to Green even this late in the season. The greens are not fast but plenty of undulations and slope. The par four 13th hole is a real challenge-Driver off the tee will get you in trouble, a long iron leaves you another long iron into a well guarded green.
The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a great restaurant, a nice chipping and putting area and a driving range to warm up on. Pace of play can be a bit slow especially summer weekends. We played on a Sunday in November in three hours and 55 minutes.
The Bucks Club
Played On 11/10/2020solid value and a consistently good grass
Bucks is always well maintained. Moderate speed greens are well kept-some wear and tear this late in the season but still very nice. Good sand in the bunkers. Good tee boxes. They have a range to warm up on and a big putting green and great chipping/sand practice area behind the 18th hole. Pace of play was 4:10 for a foursome mid week.
Mainland Golf Course
Played On 10/11/2020Solid course at a good price
The course is always in good shape but be aware that many of the bunkers have substandard sand in them. Definitely rake and place. The greens roll true though usually on the slow side. They have a small driving range to warm up with irons. They have a very good pitching and putting area. The course has several risk/reward par 4 that are drivable with an aggressive line. I usually see a Ranger out every round making sure players keep pace and the usual pace is reasonable 4-4.5hrs.
It’s a fun course for the money. The upfront staff are professional and the grounds crew do a decent job. It’s not Country Club quality but a solid course for a good price
Rancocas Golf Club
Played On 07/19/2020Lack of irrigation-hardpan
Come on man, it’s summertime… You have to water the course. They did a good job of finally leveling the tee boxes. Now let’s get some sand in the bunkers and soften up the fairways and greens. The groundskeeper must be working from home.
Patriots Point Golf Links
Played On 06/26/2019$70 for a mediocre muni on a weekday
3 staff stood around and watched me unload my bag. Great start. Once I paid, they watched me put my bag on a cart. No help-however when I finished the round, a staff member chased me into the parking lot to ‘wipe down my clubs’...c’mon!
Course layout had us bored, the primary defense is length. Greens were inconsistent speed. Fairways were ridiculously bumpy. Basic muni stuff and I’d be cool with it if it was priced appropriately.
I recommend this course if you catch a deal under $40.
