Gettysburg National Golf Club
Played On 08/13/2017Always a great day of golf
This course never disappoints. The course is great shape.
What sets this course apart from other nice courses is the way the staff treats you. Everyone is so polite. The clubhouse attendant, the starter, the ranger, both of the snack bar ladies, the beer cart girl, and the young man that puts away the carts was extremely nice and polite.
Conditions - It had a couple of wet spots from the inch of rain the night before. The starter told us that holes 1, 2, 17, and 18 were cartpath only, which is understandable. When my foursome was on the 11th tee, the ranger came around and told us that 17 and 18 were no longer cartpath only, which was very courteous of him.
Value - We got a hot deal from Golfnow and it was a little cheaper than the regular rate - not much cheaper. This course's rates are always very reasonable - much better than the more famous course down the road.
Pace of play was acceptable for a Sunday afternoon. The foursome in front of us had 1 guy tee off 4 times and took 6 practice swings and 17 waggles in between each one, so we didn't actually tee of at our tee time, but eventually he ran out of balls and their pace picked up.
I can't wait to play again!
Lodestone Golf Club
Played On 07/01/2017Nice mountain course with great views
I heard a lot of good things about this course before I played here including it was the second best public course in Maryland. That being said, it was a very nice course, but the conditions did not quite live up to expectations. The greens were much better at Fantasy Valley - the other course owned by Wisp. We played there the day before and was expecting Lodestone to be just as nice.
I really liked the layout of the course. I like courses where the holes are spread out and not stacked up on top of each other. It really makes pace of play better.
The staff was very friendly, and it is a nice bonus for them to put bottled water and towels in the carts for you.
We came up for a buddy golf trip with 8 golfers and will try to make this an annual trip. We had a great time and the weather was perfect.
Fantasy Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/30/2017Nice course for the money
This course was $40 at 3pm which is a great deal. The conditions were just as good if not better than Lodestone, especially the greens. they were fantastic. The fastest greens I've played on all year.
The course layout is a little tight on the front which results in some bunching up and slower pace of play. The back opens up a bit more and has better views and scenery.
The staff was extremely friendly and talked to us about the course and what to expect and where to play safe vs. aggressive.
The course did not have beer or food for sale - we had to go to the restaurant at the hotel to get beer (which they were very low on.) Apparently the beer cart person decided that it wasn't busy enough to keep working. For 4 guys that just drove 4 hours plus, it was frustrating to not be able to eat before or during the round.
I would play here again, but I will make sure to bring my own food and drinks in case we run into the same situation. I also doubt I would be willing to pay full price - $70 is too much for this course.
Richland Golf Club
Played On 06/04/2017Attention: Rangers needed
This was my first time ever playing this course. My foursome played on a Sunday at 11AM and got a Golfnow hot deal for $31.
Layout: I liked the layout. It was a good mix of wide fairways and placement holes. The distances on the scorecard were much different than the course actually plays - it plays way shorter than the card. There were no hole description signs and the scorecard did not have a map of the course, so a lot of shots we had to utilize GPS.
Conditions: The conditions were just OK for what has been a great wet spring for course conditions. Bunkers were in desperate need of sand. It was like hitting off of dirt and rocks. Greens were average - they were fast, but bumpy and didn't look great.
Pace: The worst part of the day was the pace of play. Our foursome never saw a ranger and the group in front of us was the slowest foursome I've ever seen. They averaged 20 minutes on par 3's and 30 minutes on par 5's. We waited on every shot, and eventually just skipped hole 15. We finished our 17 hole round in 5 hours 30 minutes. This is unacceptable and a ranger should have told them to skip a hole (or quit golfing altogether.) It was frustrating to drive an hour to play a course I've never played and have to skip a hole because the group in front of you is 4 holes behind pace.
Amenities: Beer prices were on the high side of average, but the bar was very nice. The clubhouse needs a better/bigger selection of items.
Staff Friendliness: Fine - nothing stands out
Value: The Golfnow hot deal was what made this a decent value. If I would have paid $50 like the guys behind me, I would have been unhappy.
Quail Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/01/2017Best all around course in the area
There's not too much that this course can do better. The course is always in immaculate shape. The greens are consistently fast and true. The layout is fun and challenging, with a few birdie holes and holes that making a bogey feels like a par. They are not on Golfnow, but usually have internet coupons you can print out and use to get a great deal. Beer prices are cheap and staff is friendly.
Great pic, shared on Twitter!
Gettysburg National Golf Club

This course is a very good course all around. The staff is very friendly, the course is always in great shape, you can find great deals on Golfnow, the snack bar is very nice, the driving range is great and the layout is fun. This course is a much better value than Carroll Valley golf course, which is just down the road a few miles. I highly recommend this course.
Little Bennett Golf Course
Played On 07/16/2014Tough for the first timer
I played here on a Wednesday at 4pm with 2 friends that have played before, which is a must. A lot of blind drives and elevation change. They need a ranger desperately. Pace of play was awful and we waited on every shot. This also resulted in the group behind us hitting into us multiple times because of all of the blind tee shots. 2 of the par 3's are a joke. They are gap wedge/sand wedge shots that play straight downhill. One of those kind of holes is fine per 18, but all 4 of the par 3's are downhill, and like I said, 2 of those are ridiculously short. The course plays fair (besides the 2 gimmick par 3’s) as long as you hit your spots. Price was very good to play, but $26 for a 6 pack of beer is too much. That’s more than I paid to play. Will not make it a point to play this course again for a while.
Flatbush Golf Course
Played On 06/08/2014In great shape
Right now this course if in great shape and is playing fair. Around August every year, the course gets burnt up.
The front 9 is longer and more challenging. The back is short and gives you plenty of opportunities to make birdies.
The only bad thing was that there was no starter on the Sunday I played. My foursome had to let 2 twosomes and 2 singles play through instead of the course pairing them up with each other. If you go out as a single or a twosome on a Sunday, you should get paired up with another group to avoid this situation.
Cedar Ridge Golf Course
Played On 5/10/2013You get what you pay for
Course was actually in better shape than normal because of all of the rain the course has received in the last few days. Greens were slow but true. Bunkers need more sand. Course was not busy at all. Beer is cheap.
White/Gold at Wakefield Valley Golf & Conference Center
Played On 5/9/2013What happened???
Years ago this course was ranked in the top 10 public courses in Maryland. Now it is the worst course I have ever played. I wish I could give it 0 stars. It looks like the whole course has been condemned. The driving range was closed. People were hitting balls from the parking lot into the range up the hill to warm up. WHAT??? The little snack shed between the green and white course is falling down. They should tear t down before it collapses onto someone. I played, or tried to play, the gold course and the green course. There were NO FLAGS in the greens. How can there not be flagsticks in the greens? Fairway was longer than most roughs. The rough was knee high. Cartpaths were nearly undrivable. The gold course crosses a road for holes 5, 6, and 7. The gate was closed to these holes so I couldn't play them. The green course was not much better. The fairway was shorter than the gold course, but still as long if not longer than most course's rough. But there were also patches of fairway that had no grass. Greens were long and slow. Cartpaths were awful.
I saw that the course is in foreclosure, so I hope that someone buys it and puts money into it to return it to a premier course. Right now, the course is UNPLAYABLE. They should not call themselves a golf course. Anyone who plays this course will be upset that they paid money to play on this dogtrack.
Meadow Brook Golf Course
Played On 4/27/2013Unique Layout and Great value
This course has good things and bad things about it.
First, the bad things. The course is very cheap to play, and because of that, gets very busy on good weather weekends. Another result of cheap rates is course conditions. The greens are always furry and slow, and the course does not drain very well in some low spots. Also, there is no pro shop or snack bar. If you get hungry and want something to eat, make sure you bring it with you. They do sell some balls and have some candy bars and crackers, but not much else.
After all of that, I still consider this course as one of my favorites. This course has one of the most unique layouts I have ever seen. After the first two holes (par 4's), there are not any more back to back holes of the same par which nearly all other courses have. The front 9: par 4, par 4, par 3, par 5, par 4, par 5, par 4, par 3, par 4. The back 9: par 4, par 3, par 4, par 5, par 4, par 3, par 4, par 5, par 4. It has a lot of variety also: two drivable par 4's, a long par 5, a short par 5, a par 5 that you have to layup on the tee shot but can then go for the green in 2 with a well struck 3 or 5 wood, an island green par 3, and beautiful mountain views throughout the course. And because of the no snack bar, the course encourages you to bring coolers. The only thing better than a course having cheap beer prices is BYOB.
Anyone who plays this course should not expect Augusta conditions. But, $20 on a weekend for 18 holes of golf with a cart in unbeatable. A great course to play with your buddies and have a great relaxed time for cheap.
I give this course 4 out of 5 stars based on the course layout, value, and fun.
