Wonderful greens

Kudos to the team. Very hard greens meant I kept bouncing through for the first couple holes. Putting was no walk in the park on some
Of the more undulating terrain. Absolutely beautiful course and will definitely come again. Worth it for the PCC guys to come up to this northern gem.

Thanks for the great course and again, kudos to the grounds crew. The course was in incredible shape

Great “cut your teeth” course

Nothing too scary about this course unless all the par 3s will intimidate you. Just a couple sand traps and one water feature to gobble your score up. The rest of the tricks are YOU hitting the ball straight and keeping it out of the woods.

Lots of chasms and hills to traverse. The green 30’ above your head on number 11 is fun. A couple courageous trees even helping guard the green make this a fun test at par.

The staff are fantastic from the range all the way through.

Big hitters need not bring a driver. Come out and impress us with your long iron work.

Take a cart

This is probably the hilliest course of the city options. Only the billy goats take it on without at least a push cart.

Just a fun variety of holes and nothing too scary. Yeah there’s a little water behind the hills but it will be the trees just off the fairways that will get you in trouble. Almost no bunkers between you and the greens so if you hit it straight, you will never find the sand or the water.

Wear bug spray though. Can get a little gnatty.

Enjoy the mountain of No. 2 and No. 7. You’ll need at least a club extra to mount the hill

Greens are fast

“There are no straight putts on this course”

“I don’t think I’ve had a flat iron shot all day”

“Water on the right AGAIN?!”

“Dang this course is pretty”

“I think next time I’m going to have to come an hour early just to putt on these ice rinks”

“That bev cart girl was cute”

“Dude, quit flirting with the drink girl”

“If you would hit the green, you wouldn’t keep forgetting your wedge...”

“There’s a lot of sand on this course!”

“I hear the average 4-some loses 4 balls on this hole”

“Not the bunker again!”

“Let’s do this again soon!”

The course with highest demand on LONG irons in the area

I love this course. I’m a member to a course in the northern suburbs but am confident that Valleywood is the best bargain in the southern area. The course was in great shape (if you play from the tips) and presents one of the most technically challenging courses around. You’ll only use the driver 5-6 times because everything else requires a 220-250 yard iron shot before a tight dog leg.

Not a lot of “trouble” from a hazard sense but a few bunkers and some water mix things up.

It’s totally worth the views. Some of the prettiest walks in golf in the cities on this course. Worth it just for that.

Greens weren’t too bad and seemed extra forgiving for the aggressive air approach.

I’ll be back again soon. Thanks for a great round

Practice more putting

This course has the best greens in town. But be warned, they are FAST.

This course is great for any moderate to experienced players.

It can be a really hard one on new/beginners because of all the water on the course. If you’re fine making a 10-20 ball deposit in on of the many ponds of Edinburgh, come one, come all.

Some long par fours will bring out the long hitters and some really accurate long irons to get to the green. The back 9 gets considerably less forgiving back in the woods so best to be a little conservative.

Enjoy 17. It will mess with your mind but the island is really big and if you just use a 7 iron or longer, you can lay up to the front edge before punching across to the green again. No need to be a hero. 5 par 5s and 5 par 3s make up a great variety

Virtually unplayed “safe” course

My father-in-law and I play here every time I come to visit the Brainerd area. This is a great course for beginning to moderate players. Nothing too scary about it and not a lot of trouble with some vast fairways to find.

The front 9 has the most variety with a couple blind tee shots and some interesting blind approaches if you leave yourself short off the tee. (Can be challenging on windy days)

The back 9 plays more like an executive course with some tighter fairways and several par 3s to test your iron work.

If you can bomb a tee shot, there are a couple greens in range on this course which make it awfully tempting to “go for it.”

This year, there hasn’t been a ton of traffic and the maintenence team has done a great job keeping the course in great shape.

If you play here, please be responsible and fix your ball marks on the green. Don’t be a “tourist” and commit such a party foul. The locals will judge you mercilessly behind your back and you’ve got enough bad joo-joo in your back swing without them on your tail. Go grab a new personal best on this forgiving par 67 course.

Worth the trek. Come on out!

I hate giving “all 5-star” reviews because it implies that the course really has no areas to improve.

This course is gorgeous and in great condition. It’s very well maintained and I met a couple of the members while I was out on the track and we had a great time closing the round together.

That all said, it is a 5-star course but other than a raised tee over a pond, nothing really stood out as noteworthy. I suppose every course has one or two unique things about it and this course did not fail to keep me entertained or challenged. But was it a “WOW!” no.

But it was a great experience and I’ll go back again and you should too. Great course. Wouldn’t have found it without the PCC and am glad it’s on the list while I was traveling through town. Thanks!

Gentle and friendly

This is a great course for new golfers. Not too many traps. Not too much water. Other than one long par 3, everything is appropriate. Can be a little wet... if it’s been raining for more than a day, expect some puddles on a couple fairways.

You could do a lot worse than playing here

Not for beginners

This is a tough course with very fast greens. The picture is of the green of the 17th hole. The tournament I played in had us begin on this hole. Three balls later, I walked off with a 10.

That said, it is a gorgeous course with lots of opportunities to prove your abilities. Lots of water. Lots of bunkers. Some unforgiving greens.

The amenities are great and the course is worth the investment and the challenge. You “earn your stripes” on this course. See you out there!

P.s. bring an extra sleeve of balls...
