All greens are in need of a great deal of work

I'm a member at The Guantlet and it pains me to say that I don't recommend anyone play this course unless/until the superintendent and club management put maximum effort to fix the awful greens. I've played there since 2018 and the greens are overcome by mold, weeds, bare spots, and mud every year. Fairways are good, most bunkers have sand since a major renovation last year, and about half of the tee boxes have decent grass.

Courses with similar climate conditions in the area are in much better shape, e.g. Lee's Hill, Pembleton, and Augustine, but The Gauntlet management company simply won't change the grass type, watering and fertilizing methods, or aeration schedule, despite numerous complaints and suggestions by players for the past 2-3 years.

Today, I paid particular attention to the greens on both nines and I can say that EVERY green had bald spots, mold, and weeds. Putting is a gamble on where the ball will go. Save your money and play somewhere like Lee's Hill or Pendleton, where conditions are so much better and the cost isn't that different.

Unless conditions improve, and I doubt they will, I won't be renewing my membership in the Spring.

Awful Conditions

We played yesterday morning and I have to say that the course has really gone downhill, since this spring.

Most tee boxes are full of bare spots and dead grass, most greens have many patches of what looks like black, bare soil (maybe mold?) and little to no grass, land almost all greens have poor aprons. The fairways are in very good shape, as in the past.

I'm not sure what's happened to the superintendent or the maintenance budget, but you'd expect a lot more from a course owned by a nursery chain. I really hope they get it together soon, because when it's in good shape, this is one of the best values in central Virginia.

We decided not to go again until next Spring.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. We have projects underway to recover the course conditions. We hope you'll bear with us through this transition and give us another try in the near future. Thanks for choosing Island Green/Longest Hole at Meadows Farms Golf Course.
