Shoreline Golf Course
Played On 06/21/2018Great maintenance and pace! Friendly to walkers.
Despite GolfNow screwing up my reservations, which made me late to join my group off the tee, the staff at Shoreline were outstanding at fixing GolfNow's screwup. They got me out and playing.
This course is one of the nicest in the Omaha area, and I don't know why it is not more popular. The holes are varied, challenging if you choose tees appropriate to your ability level, and the course is mostly surrounded by nature, not houses. The signature 13th hole is mostly over water if you try to drive the green, but playable as a two shot if you don't wish to challenge it. Just an example of one of my favorite courses.
Thornridge Golf Course
Played On 05/16/2017Great maintenance and pace! Friendly to walkers.
This is a great little course. The maintenance is outstanding for a public course in Nebraska, and the greens and fairways are far better that could be expected for a course in a small town like Milford. I was truly impressed with the course conditions. I walked the course, and no one tried to force me to use a cart--Super! It was in the 60's and windy the day I played, and not too many other golfers were on the course. I paid for 18 holes, and you simply play two 9's to get 18 holes.
The only con I have for this course is trying to figure out the layout. I stood around on the first tee for over 5 minutes trying to figure out which direction to drive the ball. The fairway is cut to the left with the mover tracks, but the directions indicate it goes to the right. There is NO way to know the hole is behind a copse of trees on the right unless you either slow everyone down to go down and look, or have played here before. Likewise, the 9th hole is a par 5, and an extremely challenging one at that. No indication is given from the tee that you should drive toward what appears to be a dropoff into a pit. As it turns out, the fairway drops about 20 feet, and that is where you are SUPPOSED to drive. A few signs or hints where to drive or hit ones tee shot would be helpful on these two holes.
Overall, a great course, don't miss the chance to play it!
Oakland Golf Club
Played On 10/15/2014Unbelievable
This course is in rural Oakland, Nebraska. I'm from California, and used to conditions in courses in Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nevada. This course could challenge any of those for conditions. The fairways were fast and firm, as were the greens. This is one of the few courses I can say I've played that one gets that firm roll off of drives in the fairway. You must think of where the ball might roll!
As far as difficult conditions, most holes aren't that tough, and I played from the tips, about 6600 yards. There is one hole that I'd like to mention that seems a bit contrived, and that's the par 5 8th hole. It is out of bounds along the entire right side because of the driving range, and no, I didn't hit there, I birdied the hole. However, I think good course design allows the player to hit from anywhere on course property. I understand the issue about safety, but I think that should be up to the player.
The bunkers are filled with REAL SAND, a novelty in Nebraska. Where do they get it from? These are the best bunkers I've played in all of Nebraska.
My opinions aside, this is one of the best courses I've ever seen in Nebraska. At the price they charge, it is a must play for anyone in the Eastern Nebraska area.
Valley View Golf Club
Played On 04/12/2014Great value
Great value for the money. An old style, nice course that is not highly manicured by modern standards, but still well maintained and filled with interesting challenges. If you don't like to shell out big bucks, are not overly concerned with perfect "fair" maintenance, and like what a great course would have looked like 50 years ago (shorter, with 60's style agronomy), this is your course.
Pacific Springs Golf Club
Played On 4/24/2013Nice Course
This course is not particularly long, but played long the day I was there because of wind and damp fairways. There are plenty of uphill and downhill lies to contend with as well as sidehill ones, even on good tee shots. If you are not familiar with how to adjust your setup for this, it could be a long day.
This course also has quite a few blind tee shots where you have no idea where the green is located. Members or those who have played the course a lot will have a distinct advantage, so don't be betting against them the first time out!
Hidden Valley Golf Club
Played On 4/13/2013Quirky, but fun course
I walk every course I can--I've walked every long course that everyone says you just should not and never had a problem. This course allows walking, and is a good value for the money. There are some quirks, such as the OB's between fairways, which I dislike because I think this is gimmicky, but they are clearly marked, which is fair.
Perhaps the oddest thing is the very odd routing of the holes. Often after finishing a hole, you will be just yards from another tee block that would seem to be the obvious next hole, only to find one needs to walk an entire par 4 or even par 5's distance in the opposite direction to get to the next hole. It was no problem, since I've walked far longer courses, but if you want to walk, count on walking about twice what you might be expecting! Either that, or rent a cart.
Fun course, though.
Eagle Hills Golf Course
Played On 11/3/2012Good course
This is a nice municipal course in Papillion. It is reasonably well maintained and a good deal if you can catch a low rate.
Tregaron Golf Course
Played On 10/31/2012Great course
This is a great value for the money. It is challenging from the tips (I laugh at reviews that say a course is not challenging, but was played from the short tees), but considerably easier from the shorter tees. This course is fun to walk, and has a plethora of uphill, downhill and sidehill lies to challenge the player. I've played under par here, but also way over. Strategic tee shots are a must.
The only "nitpick" I have is just that, not serious. The course is surrounded by houses on some holes, but they are not in the way unless you get pretty wild!
Overall, a great deal!
Red Feather/Blackbird at Indian Creek Golf Course
Played On 8/23/2012Great Course
I'll play this course again if the opportunity and affordability present themselves together. I hope the next time, I'm paired with players who are faster, but the course had no control over this.
Shoreline Golf Course
Played On 1/20/2012Great old course
Shoreline is a great course that winds along Carter Lake. It is challenging, but not penal and well maintained for a course available to the public. Unlike so many of the newer courses, it is mostly surrounded by woods and water, not apartments and houses. Enjoy!
