RedTail Golf Center
Played On 08/10/2017Horrible conditions
I live right near this course, and I love the layout. But the conditions are horrible. The fairways were like the rough, the greens were diseased, the rough was splotchy. Everything was full of weeds. This was abysmal. Its such a shame because with some good up keep this could be one of the best courses in the area. As it stands its practically unplayable.
The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club - South Course
Played On 07/07/2015Good course, but expensive
This was my first time playing the south course. It's got 105 sand traps with huge lips. It's quite a challenging course with some great risk reward holes. The greens were rolling well and we're pretty quick. Fairways were mowed fairly short and had some dead patches but that's to be expected after a 2 week heatwave.
Over all it's a great course. Well worth the $30 I spent to play it on golf now, but I wouldn't play it for $65-75 that they usually ask. For that sort of money id play ghost creek.
Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club - Witch Hollow Course
Played On 01/10/2015Great course but expensive
I've played ghost creek and witch hollow a few times now. They are both great courses with some excellent holes. Without question the high point of these courses is the greens. They are phenomenal. Super fast and smooth regardless of the season (slower in winter of course). The fairways are also very lush and manicures.
That being said I can't let that justify the price pumpkin ridge charges. 50% of their asking prices would be more justified.
With the history at ghost creek and the quality of the course it's definitely worth a visit by any enthusiastic golfer.
Skamania Lodge - The Gorge 9
Played On 07/20/2014Weird course, not maintained well.
Skamania is a weird course. Lots if blind shots, crazy elevation changes, strange green shapes. But there are a few problems. The greens were slow, bumpy and inconsistent from one hole to the next. Fairways and rough were also not maintained well. It played like a rural municipal course, not a resort course (which it is).
This course is very tight. If you miss tr fairway at all, you will loose a golf ball. I question the 68 rating. I'm a low handicapper and I don't know any scratch players who would shoot under par here. The woods (not marked as a hazard) make errant shots subject to stroke and distance, and because the course is so tight, even a slight miss is a 2 stroke penalty.
Not my favorite course.
Forest Hills Golf Course
Played On 06/24/2014Good course, maintained pretty well
I had never played here before a couple days ago. Its an older course about 45 minutes outside of Portland. But for an older course the layout is great! There's interesting layouts and the fairways and rough are maintained well. The greens can be a bit bumpy though.
Because the course is pretty short, its pretty easy to score well here if your drives stay out of the trees. Put your driver and 3 wood away and this course will play tougher. Some of the greens are protected with bunkers with huge lips. Though the sand varyies from super soft to hardpan from hole to hole.
Overall, great value for money and a fun course to play on.
Eastmoreland Golf Course
Played On 06/13/2014Meh, not what it's cracked up to be.
This course has a great reputation. But I just don't get it. The conditions are mediocre. The layout is boring on the front nine. There's only really one challenge on this older course—trees. Lots of them. There are more trees than golf course here. Stay in the fairway. A shot even on the side of the fairway or a just a couple feet into the rough can leave you with. No shot at all more often than not.
The greens are very tough. They are small with big slopes and were fast. But they were also bumpy.
Eastmoreland is totally over rated to me. I'm not a fan. I'd much rather play heron lakes great blue, rose city, Redtail, stone creek, chehelem glenn or the oga course.
Summerfield Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/12/2014Great place to play a cheap round.
The course is in great shape- on par with some private courses. The greans are really a high point. They're fast and true. Cheap to play, great place to keep your game sharp. It can be slow though.
Stonecreek Golf Club
Played On 11/25/2013Interesting course but some operational problems
This course layout is pretty interesting. However the day that I played it pace of play was fairly slow, including the starter sending out another group right in front of us on the 10th hole. Made us wait for 20 minutes for them.
There were also three or four temporary greens, one of which had the worst whole location I've ever seen right next to the rough in the fairway. There was also a part for which was turned to par 34 course maintenance. The greens were fairly bumpy, had not recovered from aeration which occurred 4 to 6 weeks before. None of this was mentioned by the course managing people when iBooks around or when they confirmed it. I think it's pretty unethical for a course to have that much maintenance going on without informing the golfers.
Quail Valley Golf Course
Played On 11/22/2013Great value, nice greens.
I love this course. Great value for money, maintained well, good greens, interesting layout. Some nice risk/reward holes. Large fairways make aggressive tee shots enticing.
OGA Golf Course
Played On 11/1/2013Great course, excellently maintained.
I played this course in 3 hours! Granted it was not the best weather, but what a great place to play! Its maintained wonderfully, and the layout really makes you stop and think about how to play each shot.
Rose City Golf Course
Played On 10/31/2013This is a classic Portland track. Dense, tree-lined holes require accurate tee shots. Its in decent shape for a muni track, but play is slow.
This is a classic Portland track. Dense, tree-lined holes require accurate tee shots. Its in decent shape for a muni track, but play is slow, much like all the other public PDX courses.
