Eagle Ridge, more like Pigeon Ridge

I've played this course at least once or twice a year for the last couple of years and have seen it go downhill quick. The food is disgusting, raw hot dogs on sandwich bread and barely cooked fries. The course was hard as a rock and no difference between fairways and rough. Green speed was fast which I like but you could see some of them have burn marks. It's not like we haven't had rain over the last few months, this course needs more watering and more care, along with better food before I go back.

Average course in Raleigh

Played here this past weekend and it was your average typical course. Very short on most holes and the greens were very slow. The grass on fairways is more like weeds, so not much an advantage hitting off it. Updated carts had GPS but would lock randomly even driving on cart paths. Paying $45 for a round of 18 is definitely not worth it. Pace of play wasn't terrible but there were some times where you were waiting 5 mins or so on the tees. Not a bad course if you're just wanting to get out with friends

Solid course if you get a good deal

Played here a few days ago and it was the first time on the course. Overall it is a beautiful course with a somewhat challenging layout. It’s pretty short playing from the Whites or Blues and the greens were unbelievably slow for this time of year. The clubhouse grill was closed which was about the only negative thing along with limited “cart” options on course. I got a great deal on GolfNow which is why I played but I’m not sure if I would spend more than $85 to play this one again. They maintain the course pretty well but compared to other university courses this one is a little further down the list in NC but still a good play when you can find a deal.

One of the better golf courses to play in Raleigh area

Played here a few weeks ago and was the first time that I had made it out to this course. I regret not coming out here sooner because it is a really nice course and very affordable compared to others in the area. The fairways, rough, greens, and bunkers were perfect. A bit fast due to the dry weather but nothing outrageous. This course makes you use a lot of different clubs and I feel like is more of a strategic course than others I have played around Raleigh. I didn't like the Par 5s as they take 3 shots into the green so you can't ever go for it, which is the same on some of the Par 4s thanks to creeks surrounding the course. The staff was very friendly on a busy day and while I didn't stop to eat or drink anything it appeared that they had a great kitchen and gathering area for before or after your round. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone looking to play a great quality course for a decent price. I will come back and play this again!

A bit too pricy for course conditions

When you golf at a Jack Nicklaus designed course you expect a little better than what was offered when I played in early May. This was first time visiting the Hilton Head area and chose this course over others because of the Nicklaus name. Had an absolute beautiful day with some clouds and temps around 80. The staff was somewhat friendly and the course had a great layout which was challenging and made you use a lot of different clubs. However, the course was not in good condition, at least the condition you expect for the price. I know the area has been dry over the last 2 months but you couldn't get a ball to stay on fairway, green, or even the rough. There were a lot of burn patches in the rough and the fairways did not provide a good surface to hit the ball off. Around the greens, the grass looked liked it had not been watered in days and was like chipping on concrete or vary hard sand. The experience and the course were fun but I just expected better for the price paid and would only play at this course if the price is below $80, don't be paying over $100 for this one.

Best course in Raleigh area

I have played here a few times and I just absolutely love playing at Lonnie Poole. This course is always in great condition, very friendly staff and rangers, and always provides a good challenge to your golf game. Oh yea, and it's always a great time. Course was in pretty good condition and the greens were very fast but it had been dry for about a month up until I played. I recommend this course to anyone in the area looking to play a good quality course. It can be a bit expensive on weekends and sometimes too slow with volume, but is totally worth to get to play on this course.

The Best Golf Experience in Raleigh

This has to be my favorite course hands down. The course, even in October, is in immaculate shape. Everything was well groomed, sand was soft, greens were perfect, and the Course Marshalls as well as everyone working at Lonnie Poole was extremely nice. I will definitely be back, not just because how great of a course this is but because of the fantastic service you get from employees at the course. It was pretty busy since the weather was perfect but that didn't affect the experience one bit. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a great and challenging course that is not overly expensive compared to what's around the area.

Look for another course in 2020

This course was in pretty good shape back a couple of months ago when I played, however it has gone completely downhill from Summer until now. Greens are horrendous as players don't fix divots and about half the greens have dry patches, sand, and other issues. So don't expect to work on your putting. Also, I know they have been extremely busy so expect to wait 5-10 minutes at each tee.
Don't pay full price for this course the rest of the year, players should be getting discounts for playing on these conditions. Hopefully they can get it in better shape for 2021 because it can be a nice course that is centrally located around the RDU area.

Challenging and in great condition

1st time here and impressed. Played in afternoon on a Friday so we had the course to ourselves. Friendly staff all around. Course is in excellent condition especially the tee boxes and most greens. I like this course because it allows you to think about each shot. Will definitely go back here soon.

Great Price for Good Course

This was my first time playing and I would definitely come here again and play. The Pro Shop attendent was very friendly and knowledgeable. The course was in pretty good condition as the grass and other features are still growing in from a bad winter. This course played short but realistic features like dogleg lefts and rights made you feel like you were playing a prestige course. Pace of play was great and it seemed pretty wide open on most of the holes. Greens were very slow but again most courses are trying to grow and develop the grass for the hot summer months. Definitely worth giving a shot
