Wolf Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/26/2017Fun track with a lot of blind tee shots
I played the course from the Blue tees (@6200 yds) because my brother was visiting and is an 18 hcp. I could hit driver on many wide open holes and had wedges into most greens. On tighter holes I hit 3-iron off the tee. From the Black tees this course increases in difficulty dramatically (7000+ yds).
The back 9 is a fun rollercoaster in the hills with several blind tee shots. The greens were aerated within the past month and weren't perfectly healed yet. If you're near the airport and get a deal on a round it's worth checking out.
Nob North Golf Course
Played On 05/23/2017Fun course with friendly staff
The weather was terrible in Atlanta so we made the hour trip north. It had rained the previous day and was still raining lightly when we teed off at 8am. Even with the soggy conditions the course played well. The bent greens were incredibly receptive and rolled very well. After 18 holes of wet golf we decided to go out again as the weather was clearing. With very few people on the course our twosome got around well under 3 hours even with "cart path only" rules.
Eagle Creek Golf Course
Played On 5/27/2013Nice layout with a few challenging holes.
Our group of four played on Memorial Day, and the pace of play was excellent (under 4 hours with a stop for hot dogs at the turn). The greens were in good shape, slow but consistent. Few of the greens are flat and some have great undulations that make for challenging putting. The fairways are typical of a muni, not perfect but always a decent lie. You will want to find the fairways as often as possible because the rough is quite penalizing. It was so tall that it was difficult to find your ball (this slowed the pace of play appreciably). Once you found a ball in the rough it was difficult to get a clubhead on it. The bunkers were filled with a material that isn't very forgiving, maybe a 1/4" of loose stuff on a very firm base. There are some holes that are quite challenging (250 yd par 3 over water!), and first-time players might be pleasantly surprised with the outcome of errant drives on a few of the doglegs (as long as your ball is heading in the direction of the green). There is no driving range. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.
Chimera Golf Club
Played On 10/4/2012Worth the short drive from downtown Vegas
We made reservations for this course through Golf Now based on a great deal. The course is located in a private community of homes, and looked beautiful as we drove in. The homes are well off the playing areas and don't infringe on the golf experience. There are elevation changes that make you focus on club selection, and the greens were moderate speed and rolled true. From the middle tees the course played easy for this 12 handicapper. The only downside seemed to be a seasonal issue - the fairways looked great from a distance, but were thin. They had been reseeded at the end of the summer with a winter blend and were being watered heavily. My buddy and I played 'lift/clean/place' rules when we hit the fairway in a thin or wet place. Overall this course was great for the price we paid.
