Southwell Golf Club
Played On 05/09/2017This course is long and flat
I visited with a friend for the first time and, as we are both in our 70s, were pleasantly surprised at its long and flat geography. We walked the course as we played and found the first nine holes well maintained and the greens in excellent condition. The holes are in the centre of the racecourse and the signatory seventh is a daunting one, a short par three over a pond and onto a smallish undulating green, fun to play and needing a strong short iron, not easy for us, we lost four balls to the pond!! The second nine were surrounded by woodland and enjoyable, fairways wide enough but not too wide. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day and we will visit again. The golf pro was very helpful on arrival and advised us of how the course was playing and the difficulties of certain holes. Unfortunately we did not have time to use the clubhouse facilities so cannot comment but from the outside it looks clean and tidy and was not busy, it was 3pm.

Played On 04/04/2017Good condition
As first time visitors my friend and I were pleasantly surprised by the good condition the course was in. Only three temporary greens and they were good. Course is well maintained and members we spoke to were courteous and helpful when talking about where to play the ball and lie of the greens and the approaches. The only problem we found was that the extra yardage we had to put in due to the roping off of certain areas, was tiring and took its toll. We are both in our 70's and pulled our trolleys, keeping fit paid off! a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf and the pro in the shop was very welcoming and pleasant, we will visit again. especially after sampling the hospitality bar area, can't wait. Definitely worth the money.
