Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
Played On 02/10/2018Interesting hilly historic layout
We enjoyed El Campeon....not what you would expect in Florida with old growth trees and significant elevation changes. Course condition was well maintained but bunkers were inconsistent. Twice I had bunker shots where I thought I had sand under the ball but didn’t. Greens were grainy. The whole course is extremely picturesque. Water comes into play but is fair. Accuracy matters. Slicers will struggle. Overall it was worth it.
Royal St. Cloud Golf Links - Red/White Course
Played On 02/05/2017Course too crowded-Overbooked
We gave up after 13 holes. With 4 groups on one hole (Blue 4) it became clear that over packing the course and not slow play was the problem.
When I went into the pro shop to let them know the young lad said that my 3 ½ hours for 12 holes was within their acceptable pace of play. Dissapointing. I've played here before and wanted to show my friend from Scotland what our courses were like here. Oh well. If you want to play here be careful of crowding. Royal St Cloud is great when moving along but waiting on every shot is not worth it even for the reasonable price.
ChampionsGate Golf Club - International
Played On 02/04/2017Excellent
Everything was excellent. Really liked the practice area. Hitting quality range balls off turf at the practice area was included. Course was in great condition. Starter set a great pace.
Champions Gate is a reliable pleasant round.
Craigielaw Golf Club
Played On 07/30/2014Craigielaw well worth it
I enjoyed playing Craiglielaw after having played: Gullane 2, North Berwick West Links, Glenn GC, Dunbar, Luffness, and Longniddry. This is such a special place for golf!
The pro shop staff couldn't have been any nicer and made sure that I would be comfortable and enjoy my round. He gave me specific directions so I wouldn't get lost as I crossed over areas on the course and marked my scorecard with a highlighter as to where the bathroom facilities were! LOL! That was very thoughtful. This is a newer clubhouse and course but blends in well with the area.
The course looks easy and straightforward but typical of a links course, it is not. I found it challenging, especially with some well-placed bunkers. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were a bit more challenging than some of the others in the area with lots more contours.
My only mistake was heading out without a full water bottle as I found no fountains on the course. Will definitely play there again.
Holywood Golf Club
Played On 7/19/2013Charming golf experience, spectacular views of bay
This was a charming day of golf at Rory's home course. I felt like a member for a day. Very cool modern clubhouse with friendly members and staff. Everyone asks where you are from and how was your golf.
Course is parkland style with steep hills. A few breathtaking elevated tees. Almost all other fairways are steeply sloped sideways. Practice your sidehill lies!
Overall a charming and memorable day of golf! I also played Portmarnock Old Course, Royal Dornach, & North Berwick this week so Holywood was more of a local experience rather than a world class golf course.
