Great course fabulous layout horrible staff

Booked this tee time through GolfNow. Got a great rate that was all inclusive (cart fees and range balls). Was greeted by decent young guy at bag drop and that was as good as it was going to get as far as staff. We were told we couldn't go to the range because it was closed and they were going out now to pick it. We then went into pay the remaining balance. The guy at the desk was far from friendly and had attitude from the word GO. He told us as well , that the range was closed. I advised him that my contract through golf now had it pre-paid that we were to receive range balls. I inquired if I could come back at another time to hit balls and practice he stated absolutely not it's against our policy. I then asked him if there's any other things we needed to know that we paid for , that we were not going to receive and I got a sarcastic answer .
He then spoke to me like I played thiscourse 100 times . after I advised him this was our first visit. Little did he know it would also be my last visit. He told me were the first hole was in a brief discussion and when I asked for clarification he said "you'll see it when you get outside ". There were very few signs near the clubhouse to indicate which golf course was located in any specific area. We eventually found the first hole and off we went.
The course is beautiful and very challenging. Long ball off the tee can get you in trouble a lot if the correct tee box isn't chosen. There is water on almost every hole and sand is abundant. The greens are meticulous as are their tee boxes.

We were also told there's no beverage cart attendant after 3 pm.
We never really saw any other players so I can understand the lack of staff for that. We did move through the course in around 3 hrs, so pace if play was phenomenal .
Around the 13 Th hole I saw two players hitting balls on the ALLEGEDLY closed driving range. The same range that was covered in golf range balls!!!!
We finished our round about 15 minutes before sundown. And as I was driving the golf cart back to the clubhouse I saw no signs preventing us from using the parking lot to drop off our equipment. After putting our items in the trunk of our car I returned the golf cart to the cart shack. I then received a lecture from the staff there about how the golf cart have no lights and are not a motor vehicle and do not belong in the parking lot. That staff member was advised that there are no signs preventing such actions , had I seen them I would've not done that. He continued with the lecture about carts in the parking lot and their club policy. He was advised this is my first time (and last time )playing here so I was not aware of what you have for home course policies if it's not posted I was also advised that I used an access road that was only for maintenance. The road was paved with no signs so how are we to know where we were going Not to mention that this access road comes away from the 18th green and heads to the rear of a course structure. Considering we have never been there before I had no idea what building it was . It turns out that is the maintenance area which is directly across the parking lot from the clubhouse. When I say directly across we are talking about 50 yards difference The awesome conditions at this course are ruined by its rude staff. I hope they don't treat all guests and it's members like this! But after reading several reviews on this course, this seems to be the norm. Hopefully management will rectify this problem quickly

Decent course with some length

A very long course from the tips. Not a lot of challenges. Mostly straightaway shots. No water hazards exist. The bar/restaurant after your round of golf is outstanding and the staff there are second to none ! Highly recommend the funnel cake fries!!!

Beautiful course but tight

We played this course as a threesome on a day in the middle of February when it was in the 70s. So we knew they were going to be a ton of people out playing that day. The course has some really nice holes and challenging features. The only downside is that tee boxes and greens as well as fairways are way too close together. Almost got hit with a golf ball every 10 minutes. People were scattered in each other's fairways all day. There are quite a few greens that are within 20 to 25 yards of the Teebox. We had many Errant shots come our way. There are several challenging holes and the greens rolled extremely well for February. Everybody staff wise was cooperative and friendly. Especially the bartender after our round she was an absolute sweetheart. Highly recommend playing it but you have to be very vigilant of other golfers around you

Play it before it closes and becomes a development

This is a former country club and has a great layout. We played here in Feb and super warm weather for this time of year. They even had mowers out cutting grass! The greens and traps were in mid season form already. The course is allegedly being sold and land developers will have their way with it. Right now they say they are going to be open all of 2017 and most of 2018. The pro shop is very small as is the food area. Most golfers go elsewhere after a round since they do not afford much here. Watch GOLFNOW for super hot deals at this course.

Decent course, decent rates

My G/F and I were vacationing in Sonoma CA and took a day out to golf. The area received over 7 inches of rain prior to our arrival. So the course was pretty wet. It does drain fairly well, but we were still cart path only that day. The pro shop is mediocre as is the bar area. I'll assume its a very locals type of club. The staff were friendly and the course was in decent condition, considering what they had been hit with earlier. We paid around $40 each for fees and cart via GOLFNOW. I'd suggest a early tee time and then hit local wineries nearby ....we did

Great course but avoid after rains

My G/F and I chose this as our first round of golf in CA. Wish they would have been closed and not allowing play that day. They were cart path only, but in my opinion, it wasn't enough, The course was beyond saturated. To state that the course was wet, would be a understatement. In their defense they did get over 7 in of rain prior to our arrival. But, we lost over 16 balls in 18 holes with fairway shots or just off of the fairway. The ground swallowed many good shots with no traces of same. There definitely should have been a cheaper rate for this course in its current conditions. i would play it again, but during better conditions

Fantastic course. Avoid Murdochs restaurant after your round

The golf course was outstanding. The staff at the golf course both in the pro shop and bag drop were fabulous! The course has a great layout. I suggest long ball hitters to definitely play blues or tips. White tees will get you in trouble and most won't be able to hit driver. Hole 18 has water up front that a good drive will catch. Highly suggest going somewhere besides Murdochs restaurant at the course. Staff (excluding Connor bar staff) are rude and lazy. You automatically get hit with 18% gratuity for lazy inattentive staff. Plenty of other bars and restaurants nearby. The course us a must play when in Williamsburg

Staff are outstanding!!!

We played here a few days after they received over 10 inches of rain. So it was cart path only for the entire course. The staff from greeting at bag drop until the 19th hole were all outstanding and friendly. Had a great conversation with two gents at the bag drop and they were loaded with great tips for or stay in MBSC The bartender was a sweetheart and quick to keep everyone happy at her full bar. The course was in great condition considering all the rain they received. This is a must play on my list when I visit.

Fantastic course

Everything from TD green was perfection. Staff are extremely friendly and courteous. The only drawback to the day was that they allow too many twosomes on the course without peering people up. Most times we waited 10 to 15 minutes on each Teebox waiting to hit. Other than that a fantastic day

only if there are NO other choices

The GOOD points of this round...
.played as a two some in less than 3 hrs.
plenty of parking
beers are cheap
big driving range
some nice scenery from mountain area of course

BAD points......here we go....
Greens on most holes are super tiny
Tee boxes are weed boxes and far from flat!!
Staff takes phone calls and allows golfers to stand in line
Very few directional signs (drove around looking for next tee a few times)
Blind shots that have you hitting towards tee boxes
WAY too many holes that have tee boxes right up against greens with no netting or protection from errant shots
Locals run this place and you will take back seat when you're from out of town.
Bar area is like a basement setting
Carts are antiques and run poorly
avoid driving on cart paths unless you want to be racked out of your seat, fairways aren't much better.
Not a long course from the back tees either
not a good course for beginners or those who have problems walking.
The course could be something decent with some TLC and some investments.
We only paid $18 via a coupon book and we got what we paid for, for sure

Great bang for the buck

My g/f and I played here on a hot and humid weekend. Other than being hot and sweaty, the day was well spent. The staff here are outstanding and as friendly as anyone could ever be. The course layout is mediocre but the conditions were outstanding. The course could use a few adjustments to toughen it up a bit. Most holes are just a driver / hybrid to a straight fairway. Could use more bunkers or put creek into play.
Definitely would play here again. Beer and food prices are more than reasonable as well

A must play in Chicago area

If you are in the Chicago area and looking to play a round of golf.....look no further! From the moment I walked into the pro shop I felt like a regular. The other golfers were all friendly (locals and regulars) and quick to offer information. The course was in outstanding condition and the greens were immaculate! The best part of the day besides playing 36 at this gem was meeting the GM/Director of golf, Vince Juarez. This course was smart to employ this gentleman as it's GM. This man was extremely friendly and full of advice about golf in the area. We had a lengthy conversation about golf at his course as well as golf at other vacation locations. If you want to play golf and feel like your at a country club with friends; than look no further than

Very nice course, worth the trip

The course was in great condition. It poured for about 20 min during our round and the course drained pretty well. Great course for walkers. Challenging for both the novice and advanced players. Staff are super friendly in the bar/restaurant area. Takes awhile for check in prior to play (not sure why).

Don't waste your time or money

We played there on Xmas day and what a waste of a great day. We should have known what we were in for when we got to the range. The balls were about 30 yrs old and the field was mostly sand and weeds. Then we got to the course. Most of the holes have no grass on them and there are numerous items of junk all over the course. The only thing good about the course was the staff. They were awesome and should look to take their skills elsewhere
