Great staff, poor value & pace of play

With a serious family emergency going on, I was looking for a bit of relaxing golf. The course is difficult due to the extreme OB areas just off of the fairways. You must be very accurate and know your distances. The greens were in pretty rough shape. All of that could be overcome but the pace of play finally got me. My group stopped to get food at the turn, took our time for sure and still had a three group backup on the 10th tee box. It took over 30 minutes to get those groups through and finish the 10th hole. The 11th wasn't much faster. Thank goodness for the GPS on the carts so you know where the group in front of you is. After the 11th hole, I was way too frustrated waiting and ended up leaving the course. I did not finish the back 9 as I simply could not sit and wait 20 minutes to tee off. Even if I did finish the back 9, nearly $100 for the condition and pace of play was a terrible value. If not for the friendliness of the staff, this would have been a total loss. I'd like to try again one day but with many other courses nearby, I doubt I will. It's too bad as the scenery is pretty.

Fun but difficult course with slow play

Raccoon Creek is a really beautiful course to play. It is difficult, 14 holes have water hazards, but reasonable if you actually play the tees you are rated for by handicap. As usual, there are plenty of ding dongs that play the "tips" who have no business doing so. The marshals came around a lot to check pace of play and it was average for a weekend. We rode but the two others we were paired with walked. That slowed us down sooooooo much. I can't believe we weren't rushed ahead by the group behind us. The marshall hurried my partner and I once which was ridiculous as we were both only 5 over but our other two were ultra, painfully slow. The course is in great shape though!! Still had fun even though it was such a long round.

Great Day on the course!

I've played Lone Tree many times and usually have a good time. Today, the pace of play was spectacular. We finished 18 holes in less than 4 hours. Minus a small overcharging issue, I was charged for 48 range buckets instead of 1, the day was great and the course is in great condition!!

Nice area, terrible conditions and pace

I have played here before and it is a difficult course so slower play is expected. Instead of foursomes, staff sent out all twosomes. That would have been ok but the group in front was irresponsibly slow and there was not a single Marshall to speed them up. They held up 7 groups behind them and we ended up skipping a hole to get ahead after 5 groups quit at the turn. Also, the fairways were not cut. There were tons of little tufts of tall grass everywhere so even a decent shot in the fairway was a disaster. Disappointing. Luckily it was o my $30 to play. More than that and it would have been a rip off.

Fun course, poor bar service

The course had just been punched and sanded. I wish I knew that prior to the round. The wind was howling. For the course conditions I felt the cost of $48 was steep. I play here frequently and enjoy the course. Pro shop staff was very friendly. The bar service was awful. Stopped at the turn for a margarita and it took 10 minutes to get a half full glass of lime juice with approximately 1/8 of the alcohol required. Not only that but the server handled a while line without washing hands first, squeezed the juice in and then tossed the rinds in the drink. It was not consumable and I tossed it. The only reason I didn't have another made was because of how long it took. Had the weather not been terrible and more people on the course, we could not have waited. Very disappointed.

Sooooo Stinking Slooooow

The pace of play was unbelievably slow. The course is in very good condition and play is challenging. This was a weekend round and I understand that but 5 hours and 15 minutes to play was ridiculous. There was a 2 some on the course that held up 6 foursomes due to it being a playing lesson. There was never a ranger to check on players or correct the foursome behind us for hitting in to us, twice. The frustration of waiting for every shot and waiting 5-10 minutes on each tee box boiled over on the 16th tee when our two groups had a heated meeting due to being hit in to. There has to be an assertive ranger to keep pace of play and handle those situations. GVR relied upon the GPS system in the carts to maintain pace of play and that did not work at all. I like the course, but for such slow play both times I have played, it's just not worth it.

Staff Unprofessional, Course is Nice

My father and I played Red Hawk Ridge today, May 10, 2014. We had a great round until we got to the 18th green. My father is a senior and has a serious knee injury. We were given the handicap flag so that I could park the cart closer to the greens for him with no other instruction. We get the flag every where we play. We are avid golfers and respectful at all times of the course and the players on it. On the 18th green, I parked a little too close to the green. I did not see a lot of area near the green and I was attempting to reduce the hilly area that my father would have to walk. I will admit that we were about 8 yards from the green so it was a little bit close. My issue is how the situation was handled by the pro shop. Over the outside intercom, someone from the shop loudly announced that we were too close and that the marshals need to tell us. That was very embarrassing for my father who is a proud retired Firefighter for everyone to hear that. Then, not only one, but two marshals arrived on the green. They could have simply stated that we need to be farther from the green but no. They proceeded to make us feel like idiots for doing what I thought was helping my father and tell us that they hoped we didn't park like that on all of the holes. This is after the same marshall hurried us on 16 when we were on pace for a 3.5 hour round. Why hurry a group that is very well ahead of the course required 4.5 hours? I have never been so disrespected on a golf course. I was very upset so I asked if they mowed the grass on the course. When the marshall said yes, I said, "well then I doubt being a few yards off the green will hurt". He ruined what was a very fun round. I do not plan on playing Red Hawk in the future if people like that will be employed and the pro shop does not have the discipline to handle a minor issue the right way. Amazingly disappointing. I wish I had caught the marshals name but did not.

An average Municipal type course

The course is in really good shape. Greens were excellent and the rough was about right. I'm an 18 handicap and it was challenging but not so tough that I didn't have fun. For the money, the course is good. The negatives were that there was no marshall out and we had to wait for a long time while the group in front drank beer and bet on each hole resulting in 5-10 waits on the tee box. Also, the beverage service was virtually non existent. twice we saw a young woman with a regular cart and a cooler of random drinks. I would recommend this course and will play again knowing these facts.
