Wendell Country Club
Played On 12/29/2019Staff needs customer appreciation training
I played this course many times in the past and never had an issue with front desk but recently I have encountered a check in that was less than pleasant. Sure I'm using online vouchers and different ways of playing the course that should not be an issue or even brought up when I check in. the
The course decides when and where to place discounts out there and then the consumer decides whether or not to purchase them. this is a recent development for the course they used to have very nice guys running the desk but the current weekend help there is ruining a lot of golfers day not just mine I'm sure.
Crossings at Grove Park, The
Played On 04/15/2018Fun track and nice experience in Pro Shop but...
They needed starters and rangers working to prevent the hole skipping and singles mixing in which greatly reduced the pace of play. When we made it to first tee-box the two of us in my group immediately got behind a single waiting to tee off that was following a twosome. Two other guys pulled up and we invited them to play with us (which they did) but after 2 holes we noticed a single flying up behind us and we were already waiting every hole.
New policy on weekend should be NO SINGLES...pair up with someone and enjoy the day instead of being frustrated by the pace of play YOU are causing.
Eagle Ridge Golf Club
Played On 09/02/2017Its Back!
Fairways? Greens? Bunkers?
YES YES and YES They are all in terrific condition right now at Eagle Ridge. This course is one of the most interesting layouts in the Raleigh area and Im glad they have got it back in shape after a struggle over the last year or so.
Shout out to the Staff also...Minor problem with the cart and a call to clubhouse was all it took to get a replacement in about 10 minutes.
Play the Eagle...Its tough but very fun and rewarding. IMO...The best FSC available.
Hello and thank you for your 5-star rating! We're delighted you enjoyed your round. Please book another round with us soon, and thanks for choosing Eagle Ridge Golf Club!
Hedingham Golf Club
Played On 06/26/2017The question is...Can it be saved?
First off ...$23 is too high of a hot deal for this one...should start at $13 and drop from there. This track has been around for a few years now and when I first played it back in the day I remember it as being a fairly well maintained track that always challenged you on certain shots. Its really sad to see a golf course managed so poorly that its almost unplayable but since the FSC seems to be bent on spending the bare minimum on their courses most of them are suffering in more ways than one.
#9 & #11 are temps & the fairways? There are pastures that would bring you a better lie from a well struck drive. It appears The Ham is in a death spiral that I predict will lead to more home development in Hedingham where the course use to be.
Reedy Creek Golf Course
Played On 02/10/2017Reedy Creek is worth the drive
First thing that came to mind when I though about reviewing Reedy Creek was the Staff and their respect & friendliness. Ive never had a negative experience when checking into Pro shop no matter how/when or why I booked the round. That alone is reason to visit them more than a few times a year. The course is always in better than avg shape and its challenging based off difficult green slopes alone. Its rewarding to shoot sub 85 from the whites there...any lower and you have had a terrific day. Its fair but does not tolerate sub par play without dishing out punishment.
Bottom line...Its worth the drive to get there and experience it. I only wish it was 30 miles closer to me...maybe I move toward them one day.
Falls Village Golf Course
Played On 10/20/2016A beautiful day at Falls Village
The Good:
-Front 9 ....Love it... Risk/Reward
-Location
-Over seeding fairways with rye in winter is a good move
-Clubhouse interaction was very professional & nice
-Carts are in good shape
The Bad:
-The course still has a few greens with major issues...particularly hole #4 (#1 HC) which is really struggling to show any green. The fringe around it was still very soggy and a perfect 2nd shot from the fairway was punished by plugging 3" into the bank. Most area courses had a bad year with greens so we gave them a pass.
-Course stays wet unless you are in the burning heat of July
-Sand bunkers -Sand bunkers - Sand bunkers - My group came to the conclusion that you just cannot leave them as they currently are for paying customers to experience. Mgmt heads up...please either buy a dozen loads of the good sand and fix them as they were intended OR just fill them in and place sod. I would much rather my ball land on grass (even dead grass) than in a red mud hole like they are now. Think about it....dirt is relatively cheap and bobcats can be rented to place it in the old bunkers then you just need a bit of sod to cover - Problem solved. To be perfectly honest I think this will actually improve the play-ability of most of the holes for avg HC golfers anyway. I'm thinking of hole #13 on the back (Par 3) ...the traps are just gone (full of rocks and mud) but the hole does not need the traps to make it hard...the green is plenty difficult enough on its own. The traps could be either eliminated or greatly reduced in size to aid maintenance cost. Just do it...your course will greatly improve its image in the area golfing circles.
-Whats up with hole #18? I played the hole back in the spring and construction had started down the right side...fast forward 5 months and the area looks the very same as it did then. It needs seeding and mulch just to stop the erosion & from it being a eyesore if nothing else .
As a lifetime resident of this area we have lost many good courses to development & car dealers. One gets the feeling Falls Village is teetering on the edge sometimes when such small details go unattended. I hope that the course can get it together and hang around. I would not doubt that the area golfers and membership would be more than happy to pitch in and help get the bunkers fixed in a day if requested through social media. I'd personally love to help and it would be a fun project but either way you do not want a group to leave your course after seeing the shape those were in this week. One golfer tells another then he tell 3 more and then...you get the picture.
Good Luck Falls Village!
The Neuse Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2016Greens are there in spirit only because grass is not...
Just a heads up to all who may not know as of yet the greens on most of central NC golf courses has been completely decimated by the extreme heat/humidity of the summer. The Neuse is no exception and there is very little green on the surfaces but lots of sand & aeration holes.
The good news? The temps are cooling and fall is almost here so for a few months (until winter kill) there may be decent putting again soon.
Nice layout here though and still a fun track to play for the GN deal price,
Wedgewood Golf Club
Played On 08/26/2016Just do it...
Course requires a ride for all but the locals to get to it because its not near other major cities but overall its well worth the time. Greens spectacular on this day...best I've seen all summer and most courses in NC are suffering from the heat wave (my home course shut down a week then went to temp greens a month ago) but not here. It seems they should write a book on how to tend greens in a heat wave because they have it right.
Other than that...tough holes scattered among some almost drive-able par 4's make it just right. I am currently a 10 HC . I started slow but ended up with a 78 due to a hot putter and driver,It kept my attention until I walked off 18 and exhaled in relief.
Hit them straight then knock them in...
Wendell Country Club
Played On 01/26/2016Well run course and fun to play if you are up to a challenge
The clubhouse here at Wendell has always treated me very friendly no matter how/when/where I booked the round or what day of the week it happens to be. The track itself is a challenging one in my opinion with plenty of distance from the blues that send you to small and very tricky putting greens. The day I played was after a recent ice storm and there was clean up going on to remove tree limbs that fell onto different areas of the course but it did not affect my enjoyment as the crew doing the work was also very aware of me playing and stopped as I hit my drives on those holes (thanks guys!). Ill be back on warmer days to try and better my score but I recommend this course to anyone looking for a warm welcome and fun day on the links.
Thank you so much for the great review! We definitely work hard to give this great experience to every golfer in both an accommodating staff and course conditions. We appreciate your business and hope to see you again soon!
Beau Rivage Golf & Resort
Played On 03/21/2015Caught them on a Challenging Day
First off...Beau Rivage is one of my favorites in the area. The course itself is sprawling and you will face many different challenges along the way from short but testy par 5's to long par 3 carries over water and into the wind. Just about all greens on the front have a bunker guarding the front edge of the green with slope running away from you. I play here several times a year but have to drive a good distance to do so. Now on to the experience of that day. It was cool that morning (50 deg) up until 11:30 am or so bringing every able bodied golfer to the course at one time from miles around after the Sun popped out sending temps into the low 60's in the PM. The carts were all out on the course being used by the first groups out with none available for new tee-time arrivals ready to saddle up. The Staff was being pushed to the limit to keep some ebb & flow to the chaos. I commend the Pro & Asst Pro who worked it out as well as could be expected under the circumstances. It seemed many of the carts that were sent back out for 18 more in the afternoon either barely made it or limped in like mine without finishing the round. The pace of play was Kevin NA'ish ...no...it made NA look like a speedster. We teed off at 1:45 and made turn at 4:00 or I should say I made the turn...the other 3 in my group (who had never played here before) had long before checked out on the round and left for the parking lot. I hit the back nine to find it totally slammed with slow play even with many not making the turn. I am not sure what happened other than just too many golfers in too short a span of time but I trust the Beau Staff will learn from this day and buy more carts and /or spread starting times as needed to prevent another one such as this. I also strongly believe Golf has to find a way to time carts during play and enforce the pace of play. It's either that or more & more days like this WILL harm the sport.
Having said all that do not let this deter you from this track...I am sure this was a perfect storm & like I mentioned the Pro & his Staff worked it out as best as possible while being cordial through it all ...On a "normal" day these Guys know how to entertain Golfers for a fun day on the links.
Raleigh Golf Association
Played On 01/16/2015RGA A old classic holds its own
RGA is a older course but what it lacks in new gimmicks it makes up for with old tricks. It has many elevated greens with false fronts that require carry and a couple challenging long Par 3's. The greens will hold you attention...a lapse in concentration will quickly leave you in 3 putt city. The conditions are very acceptable for winter golf and they do a good job of keeping the fairways playable. Having witnessed many of the older tracks falling to development and being lost forever except in memory (RIP Cheviot Hills CG) I cherish time spent on the classic tracks when the opportunity comes available. I hope RGA will last for future Generations to enjoy.
One last note...The club-house personnel here are some of the nicest in the area. I had a issue with my playing partner having to leave the course due to a family issue before his round really even started. The course issue him a voucher after I told them of his plight. Class act by the kind Gentleman running the desk & just one of the things that keeps RGA on our groups radar in the future.
Wildwood Green Golf Course
Played On 11/22/2013Staff Friendliness & Great Track = Go Play
I play WWG several times a year and always enjoy the track. It is convenient and always maintained but expect slower play on most days (especially on the front) where the 3rd hole (par 3) bottlenecks the groups. I wanted to especially comment on the staff as I have noticed them being very cordial my last several rounds. When I checked into the club house they seemed happy I was there & when I reached the 1st Tee the starter was informative before sending me out. I also had some interaction with Mr Budwine and he was very helpful with a issue involving a older player in our group..
Kudos to the Management team for hiring the right people and putting them upfront while encouraging a friendly culture.
Keep up the good work... We do notice!
Lakeshore Golf Course
Played On 8/3/2013Deceptively difficult but give you a chance if you hit them straight
Lake Shore is one of the areas older tracks and has catered to the IBM crowd for years until Brier Creek, The Crossings & other newer links popped up. The rub my older friends always had with the course was not the layout or the conditions...it was the "staff". It seems patrons were so plentiful at one time (research employees) that they did not always treat them so nice. My experience there recently has proven that this mentally has faded. The guys behind the counter were super friendly with a quick smile and instructions on getting out to the 1st tee to get my round started. The course itself was in VG condition for this time of year but the FW's are shaggy (all knock required) and the greens are slower than the newer courses. I mentioned the difficulty and #1 will quickly get your attention as even big hitters will need mid irons to reach the par 4. In closing...Credit the course Mgm team for stressing customer interaction from the club house. It may take a while for perceptions to change but now I can tell a different story when I hear the old grumblings.
The Beaufort Club
Played On 6/28/2013See/Play it one time but...
At the end of the day my Son & I figured the 40 mph gust + 12 Stimp meter greens were just to much for us to handle. It is a beautiful layout that eats acres of land (largest spread I have ever played) and the Golf-Now price was just right for the beating we took however we will only see it again as a memory because even if the winds were calm it would be hard for a 10 hcp to keep it under 95. My goal was 4 pars...had 1 (A wicked par 3)...but did have 4-5 more putts at it but could not keep the ball online with the winds.
Shout out to GolfNow though because we would not have experienced this course at the rack rate and for better or worse we can at least say we have played it.
Brandywine Bay Golf Club
Played On 6/27/2013Reviews posted so far are spot on...
We were prepared by the reviews posted here and they proved to be true. Brandywine Bay is a track you will have to play several rounds to learn where the trouble is before you can score. We hit great shots that found water hazards hidden out of sight from tee. Greens are deceptively slow for a beach track and ball at times seemed to dance around instead of going home on good strokes...it happens.
Bottom line...Play it if price/situation is right but better options are available.
One IMPORTANT detail I forgot to add about this course. It has the white/blue tees in the same location on almost every hole. The lack of white tees left my group in no mans land with the blues making us bite off too much and the golds had 100 yd par 3's.
We struggled with this the entire round and pars felt cheap but if we moved back high scores were in play not knowing where the trouble was.
Just be prepared to accept the higher scores & slow play if you play the Blue/White tees or the lack of fulfillment/slight loss of ego if you decide to move up. Either way leaves you somewhat empty at the end of the round.
Crossings at Grove Park, The
Played On 3/29/2013Play it but not if your game is off...
Enjoyable course IF you are striking the ball & hitting it straight. If you are a high HC player (15 - up) do yourself a favor and look else-where as the slope of the fairways & forced carry holes will leave you with a bad taste at the end of the day. Course was in winter mode due to colder than normal March...brown all over but there was grass in most FW locations.
Pro shop personnel are some of the most respectful in the area...I give those Guys props for the lack of attitude no matter how you booked your round.
Rack rate is pricey...
Falls Village Golf Course
Played On 12/22/2012Two words...Brown & Thin for the next 4 mths ;-(
Falls village in the winter can be descibed by the two words above. They did not over-seed for the winter and this track does not drain the best anyway so what you get for 5 months is a view of dead grass with very little to hit off of in the middle of the fairway. I know cost is a major factor w/ courses these days and many are electing to not seed winter grasses any longer but here is where the real rub comes in...The price to play the track has got to get real. I paid 1/2 of the rack rate and still feel it was too much based on the conditions. I like the location & the fact there are no homes on the course (for now)...Front nine much better than the back which gets long and repetitious. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rate of play was not an issue because of temps but it can get slow here if the weather is nice as they do not send marshal's out to maintain pace.
Hello, thanks for the review. We see you rated the course 1-star. We take single star feedback very seriously at our course and always appreciate the feedback. Please reach out to our team in the golf shop. Thank you for playing Wendell Country Club.
