Claremont Golf Course
Played On 07/10/2015A Good Course
The condition of the course has improved since the last time I played there. However, the second hole still is ridiculously long for an uphill hole and for a course that caters to many older golfers.
Summerfield Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/21/2014A fine nine-holer.
The course is in excellent condition, the prices are reasonable, and the layout is well-designed for older players. This must be the best nine-hole course in the Portland area.
St. Helens Golf Course
Played On 11/24/2013Much better than last time I played there.
When I played at St. Helens a couple of months ago, the course needed some earnest mowing and trimming. This time it was in much better condition. Cold weather has caused them to move a couple of tees forward, and when we played, a couple of greens were still frozen at midday (land a high approach shot on them and--whee!). Overall, its a serviceable place for a winter workout at modest prices.
RedTail Golf Center
Played On 9/19/2013Challenging & busy.
A muni in good condition, but very difficult. It requires a player who can hit the ball a long way and who also has an excellent short game, No longer young, we two men played it from the red tees and still could not score well because the course exposed the weaknesses in our short games. The old version of this course, Progress Downs, was more duffer friendly,
Red/Yellow at Charbonneau Golf Club
Played On 8/19/2013The best course in the Portland area for older golfers.
The course is in very good condition. The practice areas are quite good. The holes are short, but they do test your skills. This is the best course in the Portland area for older golfers.
King City Golf Course
Played On 8/9/2013A good course for old folks.
I had not played King City for at least a decade until recently. It is in much better condition than I remember, and it is a good place to play for old folks who don't hit it very far any more.
