Ken McDonald Golf Course
Played On 09/03/2019A nice, underated city-run track.
I've played here since 1999, and it is kept in better conditions than ever. I'm not a great player, so I love the parkland-style, wall-to-wall grass and wide fairways. I played at Dobson alot, similar style course - but that city now lets a private firm run it - not as good anymore!
ASU Karsten Golf Course
Played On 7/15/2013Unique challenges, nice condition & staff!
Only my 3rd time out here, I am on a swing change so I wasn't ready for the excellent narrow design with all the Pete Dye mounds. I even got lost on holes - at times, you need to be under 130 yds to see pins if you are slightly off the fairways.
Very good greens & fairways are among the greenest for summer around. The ASU student cart crew is cool. I will play here once my game is better again - I highly recommend this place for visitors or low cappers who want to work on shot shaping, and accurate approach shots!
Ken McDonald Golf Course
Played On 6/04/2013Wide drivers alleys
I can use my driver here on every par 4 and 5 fairly easy as the trees don't quite tunnel your path. Nice wall to wall grass, but some bare spots in places due to carts wear. Did notice abit too many ball marks on greens - possibly due to players not taking the time fo repair in the heat. Was about 104 degrees, but plenty of H20 on course. Only drawback for walkers is the canal road crossing by the powerplant. Always on my list to play each season.
Toka Sticks Golf Club
Played On 5/6/2013Improving, solid 3.8.
I walked, which is nice here due to flat layout. Lots of teebox choices is cool. Greens were very decent; due to the flat, a ball will run out alot on dry areas. Not country clubesque, but very nice for the price, great for walking, able to complete well under 4 hrs. I miss the hole diagrams used to have on scorecards. Didn't use dining area or proshop much, but they seemed very decent. Real grass range, chipping and par 3 practice areas.
