Santa Maria Golf Club
Played On 03/31/2017Solo
Walked the first nine and road the second nine. Played as a single since the two some and three some preferred playing together. Nice fast greens. Tee's good for a public course. Most fairways were great. Played Friday when many LSU students are playing.
Cypress Bend Golf Resort
Played On 03/20/2017Forget Pebble Beach.....
I drove 346 miles to play this beautiful course and was not disappointed. This saved me 3400 miles traveling to Pebble Beach to play their signature hole #7. Heck, #11 at Cypress Bend is just as beautiful and much warmer. The course and amenities are wonderful. As other reviewers have commented, the greens need work. If they closed one nine and redid the other nine's greens.....that would make it a superb.
The Atchafalaya at Idlewild
Played On 02/16/2017A Challenge
After playing the course I compared the slope rating to other courses in Louisiana. It is the second most difficult. We played from the white tees and found the hitting areas to be fair. Lots of bunkers but few are placed to penalize a well placed shot. The pins were in championship locations which was more than a challenge for an average golfer. The course was in immaculate condition. A wonderful experience.
The Wetlands Golf Course
Played On 02/10/2017The south wind does blow.....
The Wetlands is an open course and when the February/March wind from the Gulf blows, the difficulty of the course is magnified two fold. I might even clarify that for a short hitting old coot it might be magnified three fold. I only made it for 13 holes. I ran out of balls. A humbling experience but I enjoy a challenge and as soon as I reload I'll be out whacking away.....wind or no wind.
Royal Oaks Golf Club
Played On 01/18/2017Partner Jack
Was a walk on and paired with Jack. The eighty four year old was a hoot to play with. A new joke every hole. Was a nice break from the relatively slow play. We did finish within four hours and did beat the sunset. The course receives a lot of play so the fairways, although in good shape, were heavily divoted. The greens were faster than those of neighboring courses and putted true although not as pristine as other courses. A good mix of holes with some wide open and other tree lined.
Rolling Oaks at World Woods Golf Club
Played On 01/14/2017Rolling in not Barren...
Ten years ago I played the Pine Barrens. This time Rolling Oaks. Have recently played over 10 courses in the area and I found the greens here the fastest and truest. Even the most used tees were in excellent condition. The golfers must appreciate the course since I found few unrepaired ball marks. I lost a my driver's head cover (how is that possible) but some kind person turned it in to the starter. That topped off a wonderful day of golf.
Candler Hills Golf Club
Played On 01/01/2017Slope 200 Par Five
Treated myself to a New Years Day round at Candlers. Being a single I was slotted with a threesome. Great fun. Fairways were excellent as were the greens and tees. Greens challenging for an average golfer but not frustratingly so. The staff was most friendly. No water hazards but lots of bunkers. The spacing was fair and didn't punish you for a good shot. A couple of the par fives were very long for an old coot (me) but I loved the challenge and played with them like a cat with a stuffed mouse. I SHALL RETURN.
Wild Rock Golf Club - Wild Rock Championship Course
Played On 10/07/2015Bucket List Course
One of about 25 Wisconsin Courses on my bucket list. Have completed about 15. This course was my favorite. Very scenic....
Thornberry Creek at Oneida - Legends Championship Course
Played On 10/01/2015Bunker Fever
Early fall tee time. Greens had been aireated. Fairways in tees excellent. Thornberry is a beautiful course and is well maintained. There are many fairway bunkers and unfortunately the wind made me find most of them. It, of course, was the wind's fault. A very good value and even better value through Golf Now.
Sanctuary at River Strand Golf and Country Club
Played On 12/29/20142 1/4 Frenchmen
Paired with two young Quebecans. Poor guys got stuck with a 71 yr old coot. But with my 1/4 French heritage we got along greatly. Had fun....beautiful course. Loved the sand in the bunkers which I met quite frequently. Tied at number one with my favorite Sarasota area courses.
Venetian Golf Club
Played On 12/20/2014Bucket list Course
Venetian is one of four courses in the Sarasota area on my bucket list. Glad I played it. Wonderful quick greens. Fairways were well kept. Pace of play was fast. Really can't list and negatives. Play it and you'll be happy.
Tatum Ridge Golf Links
Played On 12/13/2014Not over watered...
Many Florida golf courses have to many water holes. For and intermediate golfer this can end up being an expensive round. This course has water but the placement is fair and not punishing.
The Highlands Golf Course
Played On 12/07/2014Great staff....
I enjoyed the back nine more than the front nine. Most greens were very slow...some were average. Back nine seemed in better condition than the front. Over all I enjoyed the course and will return.
The BOG
Played On 05/22/2014Bucket list course
If playing for the first time recommend you pair up with someone who knows the course since there are many blind holes. Although no GPS, the fairways were well marked. Play was during early spring and I thought, even though the greens were plugged, overall the course was in excellent shape that time of year. Ball washers, water stations, restrooms were all well maintained. Practice balls included in price. Carts ran smoothly. Very nice golf experience.
